But you did manage to gain experience points toward your next level of internet tough guy. |

Agreeing somewhat with petelee, I think the Armageddon campaign would make for a great series of movies.

To make the movie more understandable to the general audience, a INQ based movie might be best. It give the best chance to do some nice world building. You could have enough combat to keep the action fans interested. An actual plot would be present. Characters people can identify with. You would even have a chance to have everybodies favorite super human idiots, the space marines, as a deathwatch kill team, or grey knights. They would of course be background, or deus ex machina. It would start out a bit slow, as the INQ investigates a hive world. They uncover a cult, either gene stealer, or chaos, and the population starts rioting as they usually do. The guard come and start fighting, many redshirts die. A fitting finale would be the Inquisitors superior calling for exterminatus. Of course this would just be an excuse to show off the fleet, and chew up the scenery like all sci fi action movies do.
So I guess you would have to have Dan Abnett write it.
Another way one could do it would be the Ciaphas Cain route. An action movie that keeps its humor no matter how grimdark things get.

An Inq movie might be good in some ways--i.e., the ways in which the Abnett novels are good. But I think a 40k movie would have to be it's own animal altogether to be successful. It couldn't simply follow a simple sci-fi adventure plot mixed with elements of mystery and horror (like the BL books) but would almost have to set the bar for its own genre. I'm thinking of the way in which The Longest Day is the prototypical war movie. That's why I suggested the Armageddon campaign as the backdrop. I envision a successful 40k film as being like an Imperial Armour book in motion.

Seriously? You want a 40k movie? Go watch Mutant Chronicles sometime, and tell me the director/screenwriter wasn't heavily "inspired" by warhammer 40k.
(I'll post a link up later once I get around to it. But still you can probably youtube the trailer...)
(EDIT: evidently, there is some loosely described "RPG franchise" called mutant chronicles, which leads me to actually believe that the movie is less a homage and more like a ripoff. But still, the trailer is neat.)

Plot for a 40k movie:
1: Inquisitor investigates some odd goings on - turns out to be a Chaos Cabal.
2: Chaos Marines and local support rebel before the Inq can stop it. Local IG regiments/PDF get pwned.
3: Ultrasmurfs arrive and save the day, Inq gets to kill the Heretic leader but the CSM lord escapes allowing for possible sequel...
Director: Must be someone who would respect the source material and/or be interesting with it. Ridley Scott would be top choice, followed by the Wachowski's. Michael Mann the leftfield choice and Zack Snyder would at least be faithful to the source material.
If Michael 'I can't direct traffic' Bay is attached reports will surface shortly in the news of his unpleasant and untimely death at the hands of a masked assassin...

OK so yeah a movie would kick absolute ass. But do we all remember what happened with LOTR, store members didn't NEED to sell it, it just flew off the shelves. But then the films stopped, the people stopped buying, and staff got out of the practice of having to sell people stuff.
So yeah we all know it would be awesome if well done, but would we really want GW to lose so much money that stores would be closed, jobs would be lost, and your hobby would be ruined?
In my opinion a straight to DVD film, animated, and in the style of the awesome new Space Marine game . . . that looks awesome!!! So buying that!!! . . . and that is the end of my rant for now =]

I honestly don't believe there will ever be a 40k movie (outside of fan-made productions), BUT if they did Brock Lesner (UFC Fighter, former WWEer) could totally be a Spess Mahreen.

NO! No no no no nooooooo NO! You cant make a movie out of a game like 40k, and start filling acting slots with wrestlers and football players. Seriously havnt you seen the marine? The scorpion king? SUBURBAN COMMANDO?!?!?! Doing that would friggin RUIN this movie before it even started. There are plenty actors out there that are large. Besides, its easy to make ANYONE look huge while others are normal or small. Think LOTR, no one in that movie was much larger then the others. Yet they filmed the hobbits in the same scenes as the rest of the actors and so on.
Wait why was I arguing that? This type of movie would HAVE to be CGI. Im tired I guess

"Mutant chronicles" is the RPG franchise of the "Warzone" ttg by Target Games.
Warzone was one of a number of alternate 28mm SF space soldiers (Corporate human this time) against the daemonic hordes from heck.
Kryomek was another. Both games are now "dead", their founding companies long since dissolved.
Not so much inspired by 40k as inspired by the same sources + cyberpunk at the same time (rise of the corporations into superpowers in their own rights is an 80s cyberpunk trope).
Uwe Boll would be perfect for a 40k movie. He improved the bloodrayne franchise by his movies (he made two BR movies) - as each was superior to the game (the game itself sucked). Besides, I'd rather him than that other two-bit hack PJ.

From what I hear, Uwe Boll only makes movies for tax purposes. Some sort of special arts thing in his home country. I'm betting that he could make a decent movie if he actually cared to. Hell, I bet that making crappy movies is probably better, if its too profitable, then he might end up having to pay a larger than expected tax bill. Yes I know, having to pay a large income tax bill is a nice problem to have. That is until you look at how you can earn money by throwing it away (deductions for arts and charities).
That being said, an up and coming director would be best. Established directors end up with ego problems and often don't respect the source material. Just look at the hash that was made of Starship Troopers, or I Robot.

If they made a live action movie, I could probibly assure that Bruce Willis would probibly be in it. Automatically Appended Next Post: And they'd get Aerosmith to compose all the music, and the story would be about a group of space marines have to fly out and destroy a meteor before it crahses into a planet and kills all the Impereal Guard inhabitants. Theses Space Marines would slowly die 1 by 1 until the last two or three blow up the meteor with them on it.

I still stand by my point that a massive 40K film would ruin the hobby. In Spain there was a series of magazines with WFB miniatures in (like the LOTR mags here), this created lots of interest, and a fad was formed . . . but interest faded, stores became over-stocked with WFB, much like the LOTR bubble there was a loss of interest in GW products, money was lost, people were unhappy, and the gaming world became a darker place.
So I think GW might learn from their mistakes and not make 40K into a massive thing . . . Dawn of War is not a part of this, as most people who play PC games are already aware of GW and their products. Whereas a movie would have to be made to fit a wider audience of people who have never heard of GW in their life. This would create a MASSIVE bubble, GW would make MASSIVE profit while the film was out, and for a while afterwards . . . but every rise has a fall, and such a massive rise, would have a massive fall. The game would be ruined for us all.
