Rhinos are far much better than the Razorback, as it's cheaper, it has a storm bolter already, and can be given the HK if needed. The troop carrying space is incredibly useful. That said, Razorbacks are useful for capture and control missions, as they will allow you to get your troops further forward. However, in that situation I would use a LSS carrying Scouts, as it can move faster, and has a TH for teleporting in Terminators

"You have commited the ultimate heresy. Not only have you turned your back on the Emperor and stepped from His light, you have profaned His name and almost destroyed everything He has striven to build. You have perverted and twisted the path He has laid for Mankind to tread. As your own decrees have stated, there can be no mercy for such a crime, no pity for such a criminal. I renounce your lordship. You walk in the darkness and can not be allowed to live. Your sentence has been long overdue, and now it is time for you to die."

Rhinos if your army is shooty. Rhinos can carry more units, are equally surviveable, and cheaper. Your army probably already has enough anti-horde or anti-tank, so that additional heavy bolter or lascannon wont help you much.

Razorbacks are better for assault armies. They have that extra lascannon and heavy bolter, meaning you get a little more ranged power, and you can leave that heavy weapon behind in cover and still fire it while your special weapon and sergeant charge forward in the razorback. You could do that with a rhino too, but you don't get all the extra firepower.

If you are taking five man squads then Razorbacks are great and they have a nice selection of heavy weapons. This is usually Sternguard or Devs as Tacticals want the extra bodies for the free weapon upgrades.

I like to keep my ten man Tactical squads together so they always end up in a Rhino and shoot from the hatches.

If for some reason you arent planning on getting either a rhino or a razor for a tac squad, just go ahead and get a razorback that deploys as a separate tl heavy bolter. Its cheap and its tough, 40 points and you get a tank with a tl HB.

Because of sloppy writing, the SM codex allows tactical squads to get both a drop pod and a regular transport. Its not useful in a competitive build, but it can be used to make some very "fun" drop pod armies. Just deploy the squads normally at the start of the game and drop the pods empty later to contest objectives. Gives you a lot of flexibilty too, the tac squads can actually drop in the pods, split into two five man squads and use the razor or just sit in your deployment zone as a 10 man squad and let the transport and pod go play. Dont expect to actually win standard games but if you ever want to deepstrike 6 dreadnoughts on the first turn of a drop pod assault it can be done.

Why does my eldar army run three fire prisms? Because the rules wont let me use four in (regular 40k).

I run rhinos for all my tact squads, being immune to small arms and standard troop choice is important with the needs for scoring units, plus throw an assualt weapon in there it fires while moves. A heavy weapon ie LC adds a bit of punch, although heavy weapons are limited until you stop moving, or disembark. Razorback I use for sternguard and my HQ, also a 5 man dev squad.

I chose a Razorback for my Dev squad because they fit in and the extra heavy bolter beefs up their firepower.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Take a Rhino if you have heavy weapons (e.g Lascannons, heavy Bolters, MM's), then they can shoot out and it defies the point of a Razorback, or find the points for a Land Raider or three!!

I converted my two razors into rhinos for a recent match and stuck my plasma cannon tac squads in them. When it came down to it, they were basically cheaper, more customizable razorbacks at that point considering how much fire they got to lay down while the opponent keyed on my preds and vindicator.
