On a positive note, I did figure out a nice elegant way of creating ribbed hose that may come in handy for future projects
But for small scale use the guitar string is tons easier- and alot less likely to break off compared to thin pieces of resin.

And will have the added benefit of actually acting (somewhat) like an armoured hose should. Not much use at all, really, except in the aforementioned durability department. Just drill the mounting holes fair deep for them and they will withstand tons of abuse. Prob. a lot more than they would ever actually see.

I reckon that the initial pic is the best design.

Hehe thanks
I've got the first half of the single cavity mold setting right now. If it comes out clean the second half will get poured tonight and should be set by tomorrow morning.
The Az heat does wonders for speeding up cure times ^_^

I like the newest version. Looking like a 'rearranged' melta, including hoses (even though they don't make much sense) seems the best solution to looking right while avoiding legal problems.
Hmm, how about a different-looking round barrel? I was going to suggest rould holes but Nurgle alsready has a melta like that. A ribbed barrel? Square holes in the barrel?

Square holes are a pain in the butt to sculpt- anything with sharp corners is harder than rounded corners really.
I jsut finished the mold- both halves cured in record time thanks to the record temperatures here that are near 110. Cut the cure time from 6-8 hours to around 2 hours per half.
So, now that I can make extras, I can experiment a bit more with some variations and see if I come up with some versions that everyone will like. From there I can decide what to make the multi chamber molds for

Was it a square stream? Or more of a flamer template?

Everyone seems to be thinking "must look like melta-gun!" like a clutch of friggin' hens! This is a table top game! If I see something out of sorts, I make no assumptions and ask. I hate it when people ask me about my Guard squads, because they are WYSIWYG unless otherwise stated before hand! Heck, I even explain my flamers and heavy flamers despite the fact they look quite different, because both models are that of the regular "light" flamers (light are the old Catachan pattern flamers and the heavy are the new Cadian style flamers).

Well I admire the creativity, not a fan of the sculpt. I want to see what it looks like painted before I pass judgment.

I like the square look. I think we are all just so trained to think that meltas need canisters and wana be flamer barrels that our minds scream "FLUFF" lol.
I would like to see you make some combat shotguns for scouts that look similar to these.

Actually- the way I made the design it can be used as a frame for alot of different weapon designs. I sort of have a universal frame usage in mind for it. Makes sense from a logistics/training standpoint to have as many weapon systems as possible utilize the same feel and fire controls. Anyone whos used a weapon for a few years- then has to train on something new can tell you reflexes make it pretty easy to miss the safety or magazine catch on a unfamiliar weapon- keeping them in the same place makes sense.
If you note the control knobs on the side, they can be removed- and that leaves an ejection port, and then all thats needed is a different magazine. The squared off muzzle is very simple to remove as well, and then a piece of rod or tube stock for a barrel and you have a different weapon.
Im also going to make a plasma variant. And Combi- weapons too. I'll probly go with a version of the last pic/design I posted with the smaller muzzle, and fit a bolter barrel underneath.

I like the idea personally. Aside from your typical Imperial rhetoric it would make much more sense for meltas to look and feel like bolters even if they shot magma.
If you can pull off the modular thing I would be really interested in buying a few.

I'll shoot ya a pm when I get some done up. I've hit a bad spell with my migraines which has cut into my modeling time.
Once the weather evens out here in Arizona again I should get my brain back, and get back on top of the projects I have going. Hopefully that will happen this week, but its not lookin like til thursday or so.
I do have 2 that I cast up, 1 had a bubble in it so its being turned into a shotgun with a drum magazine, but the other came out lookin good. The single chamber mold I made turned out to be a prime example of why I shouldnt model when I have a migraine- as I pretty much did it totally backwards so that the 'magazine' and muzzle turn into air bubble traps :( Its usable, jsut alot more difficult than it needs to be
Thats enough medicated rambling I think O.o

I think a lot of people saw the title and thought you were trying to make a self-made meltagun, but by "replacement" you meant your own version of a melta-like gun, not an exact copy of the GW one.
I like the first version and the idea of a microwave gun is far cooler imo.
