Unofficially though (And I hate official junk anyway. More power to the players!), this is pretty cool. Not going to deny that. But they definately need some Imperialization to them. Tau as they are just aren't GRIMDARK enough. Maybe give them all various pieces of Imperial Kit.

Why not model them as Guilla(sp?): humans that went to Tau but have now seen the light and changed alliances once again and work for a Radical Inquisitor...

Would allow you to model them with a mix or IG/Tau parts so that you have IG/humans with bits of tau armour/equipment, etc. Much more interesting modeling project...

Sounding like a broken record player, but I like the sound of a Tau cadre that strayed from the Greater Good to be led by the Inquisition (the more open minded, we'll screw you later clique) or have hired themselves out as mercenaries (maybe they'll get help from the Imperium in seceding from the Tau Empire ... and the Imperium is going to do that by killing them once their job is done... hoo hoo).

Cadian Torsos with Tau arms and legs and heads sound good!

If you have the time and greenstuff skills you could probably give their left shoulderpads a cloth covering that would fit over the Tau symbol. (TBH you won't need that much GS, just smooth over some areas, and apply enough for 'wrinkles' and 'creases' on the pad). I think the Tau are utilitarian minded enough to make sure that their pads can be taken off (for easy repairs or whatever) and wouldn't spend the extra moolah on getting things engraved on it. So I wouldn't think they would see the point in defacing something so easily replaceable (my fluff, not at all canon). But for sake of easy Imperial markings, they have been issued with the 'blessed by the holy Emperor himself cloth covers' - so as to really make them stand apart. I would think a white cloth with the twin-headed eagle or the Inquisitorial =][= would be sufficient enough to alert Imperial troops their intentions.

It would be interesting to have few Tau tank riders here and there (since they ain't worth putting inside the tanks). If they're getting APCs that is.

It would be also interesting to see liaison officers ... Ordos Xenos militant officials perhaps. With Commissars and Priests in almost every squad available (both human and Tau - just in case). I doubt the Tau need any special equipment to radio communicate with the Imperial officers, but the latter will sure as hell need something to decrypt xenos tech. You wouldn't even need special rules to represent the extra 'liaison' troops and commissars. They're just their for the looks. I don't see a point in restricting yourself to the various army lists.

If you have long time serving Tau troops maybe you can give them Imperial service lasrifles, but with special interfaces with Tau tech. Or Tau Battlesuits with storm bolters instead of plasma rifles, and tank hunter missiles instead of missile pods. But I don't think this is that interesting, it would be better off if the Imperialists and Tau have a very segregated relationship in terms of technology.

In terms of colour scheme, I think you should copy the Cadian 8th colour scheme to the letter (or pigment...). This will make them green and khaki dominant on the tabletop. In contrast you could have your human troopers in khaki and green combination (the reverse of dominant colour scheme). Or ... whatever. I mean, this army is still in early stages, so I don't want to be suggesting anything like painting schemes for now.

Paint them like a space marine chapter, and include some imperial iconography. I would suggest Dark Angels green on the hard armor and a lighter green for the soft.
Add some feathers and aquillas and stuff to your crisis suits.

O H I am in the Webway...

Personally I hate the idea. It's almost like "Yeah I'm making a necron army that serves the emperor b/c the Admec were all like 0110111001110011100011100 and we were all like 0101! Then the rest was history!"

Good luck though.

Nice idea, but put some shiny silver in and find a space marine or imperial guard player to get those bits!

They're rogue tau working for the emperor and his mighty plans....he just doesn't know it yet...but were really faithful, and hes like omnipresent so he probably already knows anyway, no sense in telling him again right?

neway, I like the green and brown, it has more of an imperial theme, the red and white seems either farsight if the red is on top, or medusa V if the white is on top, both pretty non imperial if you ask me.

I've had sooo many delays and now I have to get more tau. I am making a mercinary tau army whose commander left the Tau when the Etheral's sent his contingent on a scuicidal mission to whipe out an entire space marine chapter, the young commander went to O'Shova for help and followed him on his conquest, he became his pupil and finnally went on his own way.He is a stand in for farsight. The army is mostly made up of battle suits, and it is 2000 pts. They will be painted by a freind of mine. BUT I STILL NEED A SCHEME, one that stands out; my fellow Dakkites will you help me?(can ya give me some ideas, caus now they don't have to look imperial)

I think that a quartered color scheme would be cool. Maybe red and black or red and tan(something to match farsight, but not at the same time). It would really look the best on battlesuits, so if that is what you mainly have, then more power to you.

have to admit, this is a bit of an odd thread.

I know it's been a while scince i last posted, but life got in the way, anyhoo yesterday I got really lucky when I found out one of my flgs's employee's does commision painting, so I should have pics posted by next weekend. the models being painted are just for a test scheme(two actually) one is the eavy metal crimsonfist blue fade out for the carpace, white cloth and red straps, the other one is salamanders green fade to black for the carapace, and black cloth with red straps.

cheers

I really think that although both of those color schemes will look cool, they aren't really imperial enough, i would just paint them in normal cadian colors.

As a Tau player, I have have to call blasphemy on this one! That out of the way, I agree with the others that a duller color palette would be best. I also agree that they would need to be Imperialised somewhere. Maybe file off the tau symbol on the fire warrior should pads and replace with squad markings ala Guard squads.

Alrightieieie, to clear up sumpin, my Tau are no longer impierial, alhough they do study space marine chapters, and from this they have learned to incorperate static defences and heavy weaponry in most cadre's and squads. Team leaders are always expierienced shas'ui and have two shoulderpads instead of one as seen here
