I think it's important to use two or more lamps, it gives you a light source from different perspectives and overall increases the outcome of your models.

I tend to use a daylight bulb; maybe it's my eyes, but I like the intensity =) Though, oddly, despite wearing glasses for reading and using a computer screen, I never use them for painting lol.

Looking for fun articles on painting, tactics and wargaming? Are you after a new regular blog to follow? Are you a bit bored with nothing better to do?

If the answer to any of the above is 'well, I guess' you could probably do worse than read my blog! Regular wargaming posts, painting and discussions

I paint in a stark-white room with fluorescent tube lights on the ceiling. They have diffusers on them to soften the light and eliminate shadows; I find that a clean, white space allows me to focus entirely on the scheme. Painting in incandescent or colored light has thrown me off in the past.

Daylight is best for me. The lighting in my house is pretty bad, and I like knowing exactly what my model will look like.

I use a daylight bulb (one of those power saving ones) in a lamp. I do find it can make me miss some details, but Mum doesn't like me painting on the dining room table, which has the best access to light.

two clamp on shop lamps (the ones with aluminium reflectors) with natural light bulbs in them and the ceiling light, a very bright, very effective way to paint, and if brought in close they will dry glue and paint quick if i want.

You may use anything I post, just remember to give me credit if used somewhere else.

I use a nifty desk lamp with a bright circular florescent bulb with a magnifier. It helps prevent eye strain.

Fluorescent bulbs. My kitchen has some really nice fluorescent lighting (as opposed to the godawful normal bulbs in the rest of my apartment that give off that really sickening yellowish light my wife seems to love), so I make as much use of it as I can.

Three lamps, two soft yellow so my eyes don't strain like all hell (plus their heat helps cure things) and a cold light lamp with a built in magnifier. The latter is also mounted on a bendable stalk to adjust as I need.

But I always check the quality of my finished models in broad daylight.

I use natural daylight as much as possible and i have to lamps on my desk and then big lamps in the room in the corners and lights above. But if i couldn't use any natural light i don't think i could paint without bad head pains.

I wasn't convinced about this until 2 years ago, when i bought a Daylight bulb and put two Lamps next to each other the difference painting in hte evening or over night is huge. It cannot be overstated, I have never looked back and will not ever use any other kind of Bulb. It makes that much of a difference! plus it makes for better Photo's as you don't need to use the Flash and get a much better more realisitic representation of the Colour of the miniature.

My lamp, bulb cost £3 seriously just go to your local market and buy one (remember they get super hot and I know I burned and electrocuted myself on one, long story short!). Otherwise the best place I paint is at my parents house in Greece on their Veranda when the wife lets me take my paints with me.
