Well said sir! GW isn't going to come down hard on a solid game store owner who is a regular buyer and who runs multiple events for them a year over one man's bruised ego. And the only complaints about Mik's running of the tournament have come from a brand new poster and a person that security had to escort out.

Wow all I’ll add is this Mike Clark has been a role model for a ton of people in this area, and a father figure to me for many years now. Besides holding events that are always done professionally and with a ton of effort, he holds us to a higher standard when it comes to modeling and game play, which is not only respected by the gaming community, but greatly appreciated. Unfortunately there are just some people that forget that we are playing a game, and that things don’t always go your way.

SatonHimSelf wrote:I am not familiar with dakka i was just introduced to it by a friend not to long ago. I was in media and I have to say that i agree with tony on alot of the things he is saying and what he was saying when he was in media. Mike did on more than one occasion use profaine language in front of me when adressing questions. I also do not believe the situation with tony was handled properly. Mike seemeed to be the instigator and I do not believe he would have acted that way if it where a different setting. I wittnessed him make three bad calls in favor of the other guy that tony was playing and it was not until the thrid when tony lost his temper. I in no way shape or form agree with Tonys behavior but i do understand his frustration, although it should have been hadled totaly different by Tony. After the situation reached a boling point Mike was still instigating i do not believe that was right on his part. Here is what happen in the three situations that frustrated Tony. I witnessed all three and was listening the whole time, to aviod being dragged in i am not going to state my name or where i was.
First bad ruling in my opinon was as follows. Tony deployed a battle wagon behing a buliding with nobz and Gazghull in it. Space marine player deploys nothing. First turn space marine palyer moves everthing on, he starts to shoot search lights at the battle wagon. First one misses, second one misses, both clearly could see the battle wagon as they were on the side were there was no buliding. Then comes to the controversy space marine player shoots a search light from a dreadnought at the battle wagon, The dreadnought is right in front of the building but slightly on a hill, he hits with the search light. Tony immediatly contests and states the dread not cant see the battle wagon. The space marine player says it can see. They go back and forth for a minute, tony continues to say roll a d6 which i think was completly fair. Space marine player says no, judge gets called they get a laser pointer at check line of sight the laser hit the very tip of the battle wagon maybe one centimeter to play with Tonys contention is the laser pointer is more than that one centimeter away from where the search light is there for the searchlight cant see it, all along he is saying lets just roll a d6 guys. Hopefully i have done a good job decribing the situation it was clearly a close call and would and should have been d6 in anyother game in another place in the world. Judge does not make is own ruling, instead looks at the space marine player ands says do you want to d6 it? Space marine answers with the obvious answer and says no. Mike then says, well it can see and that is my ruling he could have very easily said roll a d6 and end it guys. Tony did not argue or talk back or say anything thing rude. He accepted the ruling and moved on. In my opinon and this is only my opinon the judge pitted the two players against eachother buy asking for the space marine players opinon, when he should have just maid a ruling. Second this is also my opinon It was indeed a very close call that should have been decied on a dice roll.
Second ruling had to do with multiple unit combat. Space marine player charges a unit of kammandos who are locked in combat with two or three vanguard veterans with a unit of scouts. Tony says he is striking the scouts with the remander of his attacks that can not be allocated to the vanguard veterans. Space marine player says that Tony can not attack the scouts and must allocate his attacks to the veterans, Tony says what about the kammandos that cant strike the veterens. space marine player states they may not attack. Judge is called, Tony presents the judge with the faq from gamesworkshop and states his side. Judge rules that all attacks must be made against the vanguard veterens and only the vanguard veterens and the other models may not attack. This is when i started to notice tonys frustration. I also was frustarted with the ruling as i know it to be wrong. This is alos when tony in my opinon started to act inappropriate and get loud, which if he didnt was totaly justified in being upset.
Third and finaly ruling before the explosion and expulsion of Tony. Before the start of the fifth turn Tony states there is not enough time to continue and that the game sound end. As it sits at this moment the game is by all means a draw. Space marine player says no and starts to take his turn. At the end of his turn Time is called, so it is top of turn five and because and only because of that turn the space marine player now has a unit with one space marine very close to the objective, within three or four inches. Tony says time was called i told you there would not be enough time to finish and it does not matter weather or not the space marine is at the objective or not he should not have taken that turn and therefore the game is over as it was at the end of turn four and is a draw. What happens next is what I was amazed by the judge comes over of course and says take another thgirty minutes and finish your turn Tony. Tony knowing he could not win in thirty minutes says no the games are two and a half hours not three hours I told him there was not enough time and the space maine player went aheaed with his turn understing that if time was called before the turn was over that the game would end in a draw. The space marine player now seeing at the end of his turn he is now possible holding an objective says that his turn counts and for tony to finish his turn. This is where part of the controversy is tony says to the space marine player your not within three inches of the objective anyway so it doest matter. The distance is mesured and it is found that the space marine is in fact within three inches of the objective. Tony then states that he cheated and moved the objetive or the space marine after they had started to argue. Judge comes over tells tony that his turn doesnt matter because he cant get anything on an objetive and rules that the space marine is within three inches of the objective. Tony proceeds to blow up cuss and threaten the judge and the space marine player and is ultimatly thrown out. I do not believe that he should have acted in this way. I do not condone that type of behavior under any sircumstance. I believe he should have found a more approprate way to deal with the situation, before he did that I had already made my mined up that i was going to call gamesworkshop and talk to them about the way i felt about the whole thing but affter that i didnt know so i thought i would let you guys know the truth about what happen.
This is irrelevant.
To threaten another player is beneath contempt and something I would expect from a three year old. Plus, at least in Texas, thats a potentially life ending mistake if you're stupid enough to try it.

Im not going to say anything further on the drama part other than to once again thank Mikhalia for being such a fantastic resource in the community and for running an amazing event.
On the other point, the Pedro Cantor List I had the actual List emailed to me in response to the questions about it. ( Wow did I have it WRONG!!!)

I understand the list was intended to show that a less optimized but functional list can still win at Ard Boyz.
Cant say Im a fan of the list, but I have to congratulate the player for advancing with it. I know his opponent in the final round was a very good player running a pretty nasty Khan Biker list so he had to earn that invite to Chicago.

The pedro list is a good one, balanced against most every army, I think. Tougher to play, because it has less strengths in some areas, but I think it also has less weaknesses, and can respond better to most armies and scenarios.

Yeah,
It has a few units that are just suboptimal choices compared to others in the same Force Org but its not a weak list by any streatch of the imagination.
It probably caught a lot of people very off guard though, and does have an answer to everything.
Not my style, but hey he is going to Chicago and Im not

Troy: I'd be very interested to read your batreps if you feel like writing some up once the emotion wears off. Seems to me there's usually more to learn from losses than from wins.
Everyone else: While it was certainly no reason for Tony to get upset and threaten players/judges (that is indeed the type of behavior one would expect from a 3 year old), Mike's ruling about the multiple assaults issue was clearly a bad one, especially after being presented with the FAQ. And anyone can say "yeah judges make bad rulings" but judges should at least look at information when it is presented to them (and never use profanity to make a point).

Yeah, Ill do a set of batreps probably this weekend, I want to do them up for my Podcast Blog anyway, although the day was too exhausting for me to take proper pics.
The first two games went fair, and very well, and the lessons learned from my mistakes on game 3 could be useful. I have to admit that I am frankly embarrased at how badly I played and how many mistakes I made. The more I think about it the more dissapointed at myself I get.
As to the ruling it should be noted that the FAQ and The rule itself are not the most clearly worded and IMHO can be interpreted either way. The TO asked several others present to check him on it as well in every possibel attempt to be fair.
Honestly if it were me I would not have botherd trying so hard, he was being shouted at and belittled by Tony even as he tried to read the rules. Basically he was insulted for even looking at the rule book and not just imediately agreeing with Tony's Rulling. If it were me, I would have ejected him from the tournament at that point.
Instead Mike bent over backwards trying to be fair. And the FAQ only added to the inclarity of the situation as it does not say that you can direct your attacks at the second squad only that you must direct your if you are in base contact with one squad and not another before any attacks are made you must direct your attacks toward the squad you are in base contact with.
I read the FAQ as well and I could not say definitively who was right so I just kept my opinion to myself. So it was certainly not a case of him not trying to make an informed decision.
You can agree with it or not sure, but he definitely made every effort to be fair.

I'm glad to see the thread back on topic, and I have to thank Troy for not only a good game, but a great time.
I was having an okay day down in Media (most everyone was pretty serious and not in the greatest of moods), but in our 3rd game of the day Troy was such a friendly and cordial opponent that I came away from the event feeling really happy!
Troy lightened the mood of the day for me, and turned another ard boyz experience (not usually that enjoyable) into a fun trip. Not an easy feat, especially after a long day.

It said it on all their posters for the 2008 ones so I'm assuming it's still a rule. So in essence:
STOP WHINING!
Heck I was up for first going into the third game (43 battle points) and I'm not complaining that I didn't win. Had 2 great games and one that I won't let ruin my other two

Howdy... while I was not at the media event, I want to chime in that Mike probably should have had Tony leave the event before it got as far as it did.
That kind of situation, even if Mike had no fault in its escalation to the boiling point, reflects badly on him and his store. Thus even if he was not to blame, it still falls on his head.
As for how nice or 'fatherly' Mike may be, there is no question that he puts a lot into the hobby... including the extra space involved on top of the terrain requred, both to setup and take down, as well as to make/pay for.
But, I want to point out that Mike does make errors with rules. In my past trips to his events, on one hand they are well organized, but on the other hand his rules knowledge and attitude toward differing opinions made the overall experience a negative one. Sure he is the judge and his word law, but if he is playing a different game than everyone else, it kinda soils the whole experience with just one bad rule call.
So in the end, we all should accept that the judges ruling is final; but if the judges ruling is demonstrably wrong, what recourse do we, as players, have?

That Pedro list is interesting. Ive been pondering on the effectiveness of the -2 LD from scouts if you win combat.. Can break units pretty well Id think
As with any large tournament.. wierd lists can win due to how matchups work. I'll never understand the insanity of list tiers.
If you play what youre good against you'll win.. if you dont you'll lose.. Very little to do with what the best army is (Unless you play WFB then you play in a very broken system!)
And yeah, stop the damn whining.. Use your time to go to work overtime and make enough money to buy yourself a 2500 pt army
