There is no way for a horde to make it across the field against 4 leman russ tanks. I use it in casual play and my opponents have never complained. I agree with kill dem, and it is no more cheesy than the eldar psychic combos.
I am not saying that it isn't possible to make it across the board, but against as many blast weapons that are out there good luck. That is my opinion from my experience. That is also why people take grots as mobile cover.
As far as orks being a 3rd tier army, I have never subscribed to that logic. I think orks are very competitive.
Perhaps the reason you're horde orks can't fight an army w/ blast weapons, is because you keep putting them in a silly checkerboard formation so that the shots hits 6 or 7 boyz unless it rolls Boxcars for stray. Seriously, 2 ork mobs in one area just calls to templates. Imo, if you find yourself or an opponent reverting to this kind of tactic, it would be best to either talk to your opponent about ways to play a better 40k game, or search around on this wonderful forum for tactics pertaining to your army.
I guess you cant see what I am talking about, so I will explain. Take a unit of grots and checkerboard them in with a squad of 30 shoota boyz. (i dont checkerboard everybody) and run the checker unit in front of everybody. If you want to discuss this more feel free to pm me and i will send you what I run that way you can see before you judge. That and I never said I couldn't fight against blast templates.

It's not a really good Idea to do at a ALL.
Checker boarding your units in a game are a good way to lose to units at once with a an assault / Template/ ETC...
It's just stupid.
As far as my ability to play the game, I think I do all right.

It's a dumb strategy to use. Its not even a strategy, its just stupid.
Everytime I play someone who does it I make them move each squad individually.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated. |

QFT
..except, I won't even play someone who wants to do it. Life is too short to have my time wasted like that.

I would, I don't really consider my time valuble. Also it would be pretty comical.

And, of course, some armies don't really care about checkboarding all that much to begin with (like tau, with markerlights and SMS and all that)...

Easy on me here this is my first post.
In my area everyone plays this out of the INIT FAQ.
I won't post the text of the FAQ but it is covered in section RB.22A.01.
In basic it states the when one or more units are intermixed they do not give mutual cover.
To determine which unit or units get cover draw a line from the closest model in the firing unit to the closest model in the intermixed group of units. The individual unit that this closest model belongs to does not get cover, any and all other units in the intermixed group do get cover.

I like to assault them. Because of movement issues, they usually can only get a small portion of their unit engaged, but I can kill all of them.
But even better...
Because of the React move, they second unit is often 'trapped', part of it is surrounded so it can't move, and often can't even get to me to help in the assault.
Big Fun!

Thats actually a good idea there coredump... I'm going to have to remember that when I play my buddy... lol.... It would be interesting to get a sweeping advance on a group of guys because you killed the one or two (possibly three) figures that could get close enough....
