Hope I'm not being too nitpicky, but as far as I know Vallejo, Ctadel/ GW, Reaper, and the various craft paint are all acrylics in a water suspension.
Yup Eilif has it right, Sorry Stoiss, this part of your post is not factual. nor is the claim of more toxcisity.

Another vote for Delta Ceramacoat. Been using them for years, much less expensive than GW/Citadel paints, same if not better coverage. Also have been using them through my Aztec dual action airbrush. Just use a 50/50 mix paint/water for airbrushing.

Thanks for that info. I had no idea delta would work through an airbrush.
One more thing to add to the list of tools I want to buy...

I bought some bottles of this and was using it for a time, then not much longer the paint began to chip off easily

With cheaper paints, you won't be able to mix them very well with water or additives. The pigments arnt as crushed\fine as the more expensive paints. The paint will go on fine but as said above, will crack and just look bad once dried.
If you're not one for adding water or additives to paint, doing all that blending and shading then cheaper paints are fine.
I do a lot of blending and shading etc so stick with Reaper and Val.. paints.

It is true that the pigments in craft paints aren't as fine as in "artists" paints. That's where the chalkiness sometimes comes from. However, if paint is chipping off, it probably means that it's time to get some matte spray or sealer on your minis.
I'm a pretty basic painter, but the only time I've had paint chip off is when I didn't properly prime a model or wash a metal model to eliminate mold release residue. I've never had a problem adding water to it, and AFAIK, it can be thinned with acrylic medium as well.

It seems like people are getting some pretty solid results with Delta Creamcoat.
I think I'll try this out, I'm sick of 3.50 a pot for semi-decent quality.

I agree with Luna on that. So does my Deff Dread. Granted, the pic is a little blurry... But I painted this completely with Apple Barrel paints, and I watered down the first pass of rust. Totally ignore the fact that I messed up on the rust... and the gore... I am still trying to get good at painting after taking a break for 10 years... Gak, on my boyz I use a "wash" of 5:1 water/Apple Barrel Hunter Green. I think it looks awesome. I can't speak for other paints, but AB looks just fine when watered down. You might have to add more coats, but that is a different story...

Just to clarify , im not saying expensive good quality paints don't work better than the cheaper ones.
Im saying GW while expensive certainly is not good quality.
The apple barrel / craft store paints for $1 is just as good.

yup, on the topic of C-coat there isnt a lack of quality against GW paints. C-coat offers 3 to 4 times as much paint, at 1 / 3 the price. And at equal quality.

I've recently began using Ral Partha again. I love the coverage and it is so cheap $1.33US direct from RP.
Sad thing is I've searched and searched and no online retailers in the US. Ordering direct from RP takes about 10 days to the US from day of order to delivery but $1.33 for 15ml bottle is very cheap for as good as they are (and if more is needed they are available in 90ml bottle as well).
For airbrushing I ONLY use airbrush paints. I know some who have gotten good results from using Citadel through an AB but the way AB paints are designed (like Createx Wicked colors) I can thin the opaques down to flow like water and they'll cover in 3-4 passes. Thin any hobby paint down to flow like water and you just basically get "colored water".
Not to mention acrylic AB paints (Eurothanes for that matter too) are cheaper than "most" GOOD hobby paints. $5 for 2 oz (60ml) of ANY of the Createx Wicked line of paints. Can be used right out of the bottle but I still usually thin mine about 2:1 or 3:1 paint/reducer so in essence I get about 4oz of color. That much paint would paint about 36 LR's with good coverage before you ran out.

The Delta paints are really great, very cheap and a great line of colours to pick from. My only complaint is they finish a bit chalky, but perhaps with many many thinned coats, its far less pronounced.
The GW paints are good and all its just...so much...for such a tiny pot of paint!

I am sick of GW paint prices. I just spent 25USD on paint... For what? I haven't even used them yet. I have about 68bottles of various craft store paints and I love them. So +1 for craft paints.
