I knew one guy who was on a pokemon trading card forum and masqueraded as a woman in order to get better trades.

I've played as a female character in single player rpg games, but never over the net.

See thats an odd one for me, I must be lucky as I've only had one person ever ask the question, 'are you a real girl?' and after I said, no I'm a fella, I don't believe for a second he's been round the entire server saying, hey thats a bloke so no one else asked me. On top of that all my alts have never had it happen on the same server.

There are also somewhere between 15-20 women in the guild I'm in, and they've made little to no mention of this phenomia either other than jest. I have alts on several realms, not encountered it there either. So it all comes down to that one time I've been asked on one alt, I am starting to wonder if its a North American thing.

If it was that common it'd be happening way more often.

Maybe they just didn't find you attractive ?

One guy on our server kept up the fiction of a female personality not only in the game but across into the server forums until he slipped up and was revealed to be a guy, folks were very angry but did they have a right to be?

Im not sure , but i would imagine is among the same line as why people prefer to use indirect attacks in an argument then direct ones even when its exactly as you said

Im not sure what that question is implying , but i do think ( or assume ) its against forum rules to have

I bet a lot of that has to do with whether or not the female avatar actively engages herself in a lot of conversation especially in the public channels of MMORPGs. There were a few dudes in my guild that paraded around as IRL women on their female blood elf characters just to get that crossdressing type reaction; however most women and people in general that play MMORPGs don't really find themselves whispering to strangers or in general chat especially once you get into a good guild.

In my MMORPG experience most women in the game are married or in a relationship however there's usually playful flirting and sometimes creepy stuff especially in ventrilo channels. Horny nerds hound potential fap victims for their pics and myspace lol. Gotta find that Olivia Munn or Morgan Webb right?

Hmm in mmorpgs i think i have once or twice .

I made a male char and started to pm them "uncomfortable" messages.

Though it didnt get very far , maybe 5 mins at most.
Lvl 1 character ( they can check ) + the way i type its er... obvious.

I can honestly say I've never masqueraded as the opposite sex on the internet. But this is the internet...so how can you be sure?

Well, we don't have many girls posting on dakka, your input would be of singular interest on this debate, have you ever used a persona at odds with your gender on the interwebs? On a game or elsewhere? If so, why did you feel it necessary to do it?

I can get into detail why girls want to pretend to be guys ( or keep their gender secret )

But to sum it up , it involves:

Guys ALWAYS assume girls will never be as good as them .
Thus , to them If a girl is surperior in a mmorpg , its always implied that:

- The girls attained their gears and currency through E- whoring herself
- The girls attained their lvling by having others play for them
- If the girl and her teams are Gladiator ranked , she is "carried" by her team mates. Or that im a stupid furry loving Druid. ( oh god.... )

In other words , we dont need all these garbage thrown around ontop of what frazzled already mentioned.
We can kick your ass , and i certainly do. I want the male players to take it like a man and just accept their losses without ^ excuses.

That's the thing about the internet.
If a girl walks into our FLGS half of the guys instantly think "OMG BEWBS!!!".
On the net, we can actually TALK without there being that discomfort...well...mostly.

2 reasons
1) I don't know if you're a girl or not, so I can't jump to any conclusions.
2) I don't CARE if you're a girl or not. I simply enjoy posting on this forum and your enlightened/funny/serious/annoying posts.

Unfortunately that seems to be a trait in everything women do. Back in college I had a female as a cultural anthropology professor and she lectured about the most discriminated group of people in history, women, and how everything that women penetrate into automatically gets looked down upon or loses respect by men. Gotta say she's unfortunately right since either through social programming or genetics men just look down on women ala Adam Carolla.
