I made the long trip down from IL.
From a player's standpoint I'd say the con was a success. The missions were varied and fun. In my games the time wasn't really a factor. In round 7 I even played a horde ork(120 boyz + lootas, kans, and koptas) and we finished all 6 turns with 10 minutes to spare. There's something to be said for knowing in advance that you have to play efficiently. In the end I played 7 fun games against 7 good guys.
There's something to be said for a 7 round tourney also. Over 7 games you are far more likely to get the best player of the tournament than you are in a 3 or 4 round tourney. With the lack of GW GTs this year and possibly next, the BoLSCon championship tournament is THE tournament for the "tournament player."
Now I can't comment directly on the open gaming as I didn't play any, but those guys sure sounded like they were gaving a blast. Between pick up games, the narratives, pod racing, AI, and Space Hulk those guys were busy with non-stop gaming. Heck, after the championships were done on day 1 and all of us were burnt out and sleeping or drinking, the open gamers were still going at it for another 4 hours or so until the venue stepped in and closed the hall for the night.
Hopefully all of the behind the scenes stuff went just as well and we can add BoLSCon to the list of "must-attend" events alongside Adepticon and others every year.

Dear Development Team,
Rock is severely overpowered. Please nerf. Paper is just fine. Thanks.

Is there a way to get a copy of the missions played? it's always fun to get new missions to try out at home games and stuff, so we can change things up a bit.

I have copies of the missions, but maybe John will post them for us.
The only stinker was the HQ killing one, that if you didnt kill the enemy HQ the whole game was pretty much moot.

I'm processing all of the results sheets as we speak and it look like more than 90% of the 40K games were completed. It also looks like 98% rated their game as "Good" or "Great".

We had a similar mission in a recent local tourney. Nobody liked it, as everyone either kept their HQ's in reserve, hit them at the back corner of the table edge, or stuck them in land raiders and drove them to the far edges of the board. The old RTT mission that put a spin on it so that the enemy HQ's had to advance towards each other would have prevented this behaviour, of course it also screws some armies and favors others.

HQ had to begin on the board, even if they normally could not (Summoned Greater Daemons, Chaos Daemons), and the secondary objective was to never place any HQ into a transport. The goal was to force players to carefully consider if they wanted to protect their HQ with a transport and give up those points, but have a better chance at winning the primary, or go for max points.
Yes, the scenario favored people with tough HQs. Other scenarios favored people without tough HQs.

I had a great time at BoLSCON. This was my first tourny so my friends and I went and did the open gaming to check it out. We got 1 Apocalypse game and 5 pick up games. We grabbed a copy of the missions and rolled to see what mission we would do. (2d6 reroll anything higher than a 7). As I have been playing for only about 3 months, I learned a lot, and the players and staff were really patient and kind with my dumb questions. I even ran into an old friend I hadn't seen in about 5 years. I really liked how they did drawings for the open gamers as well as the tournament players. I think every one walked away with some sort of prize. All in all it was a great weekend. I wish I would have gotten more emails to keep in touch I met some really cool and interesting people. The best of all was being able to openly talk about 40k with out having to explain what it is. At least I got to complain about how my Crons are nerfed and got some sympathy.

One bright day in the middle of the night
Two dead boys got up to fight
Back to back they faced each other
Drew their swords and shot each other.
A deaf police man heard the noise
And came to arrest the two dead boys
Don't believe this story's true?
Ask the blind man he saw it too.
