The only people who struggled were the hoard ork players and d en then most did a fine job. Just a word, it should never take 30-45 minutes for JUST the orks to set up. PERIOD. Romeo from BattleFoam knocked his set up out in under 10mins and he was straight footslogers.

Yes, day 2 had a winners bracket and a Consolation bracket. Essentially day 1 was a tournament to see how you were seeded for two day 2 tournaments. Each one had full prize support. Where else have you seen the besr overall, 2nd best, best consolation and 2nd best consolation ever all get prizes?

Michael Strange won with a beautifully done techno themed tyranids list.

As for the time, 90% of the people did not have a problem. The ones that did “the guy with 160 orks on foot ” would not have been able to get a game past turn3 or 4 no matter how much time they had.

I kind of question the wisdom of bringing an all foot assulty ork army to any kind of a tournament anyway . When you can only get 2 or 3 turns done in 2 hours that extra 30 min is not going to get you to a finished game.

It helps to be a little crazy.

I didn't play in any of the tourny action, but I was able to pick up a prize for Best Painted Fantasy Character with my Skaven Assassin/Black Skaven.

They only awarded the top placing entries in each category (of which there were 4 for each game 40k, Fantasy, and WotR).

I don't have a breakdown of who won what categories or even pictures of each entry (the only cam I had on hand was a cell phone and that's not going to cut it). Hopefully someone out there has a breakdown of the entries and the winners.

Amen. That is exactly what I wanted to say.

Grey_death: you also won open gamng prizes. That's right, just for playing space hulk and Aeronautica Imperialis with my stuff, he won prizes. That is pretty darn cool. Of course I voulenteered to run open gaming, so I had fun just giving away over a grand in prizes! I gave a prize to the first person to make the assault cannon explode, and a prize for cheating at space hulk with the librarian ( the guy was confused and kept using psi powers to get command points so he could attack the stealer first out of turn. He won a box of fantasy highelves who cheat by always striking first )

Sounds like fun!

Re: The horde army thing- there are many players out there who manage it. As noted above, if Romeo of BattleFoam is capable of setting up his infantry horde in under 10min, I guarantee you that he's also one of the guys who knows how to play them with speed.

Musta, ah yes ^_^, forgot to mention I did pick up a lot of other stuff this weekend as well! There were tons of giveaways for all sorts of things! All in all I made out like a bandit this weekend.

Oni, I don't know that Jwolf actually played in the tourny. I think he was just organizing (of which there was an awful lot to do).

Well, he DID beat fritz and he played jawaballs today (probably won ) and pulled off an awsome con that had greatnumbers with only a few months planning. I'm glad he did this to show the naysayers what's up. Also, MORE IGTs ARE GOOD. Instead of decrying the loss of gw ones, stepping up and doing good is where it's at!

Yea, I hope BoLsCon was a success since I only live an hour and a half away from where it was held; if it becomes an annual thing I might venture into my first IGT in the near future.

Glad to hear the time limits didn't screw too many people. I am of the opinion that you should have enough time to play a 160 model horde at a tournament if you know what you're doing. Timed turns would be good, to stop opponents taking the mickey.

I hope you had other plans keeping you away, man. I'd hate to think you sat out waiting to see if the con would be a hit before fetrng behind it. That's like only cheering for the winning team!

I had about 20 open gamers, peopple who got a floor pass just to see what was up and play like minded people. There were constant 40k pick ups and even some apoc going on. Heck, there were War Machine players who only came to play warmachine and got n games with strangers. I ran some aeronautica imperialis, and Space Hulk rarely sat dormant! You should have seen the WoTR players set up a huge helms deep table and go at it!

I can't speak for the flylords, but it would be crazy NOT to do this again next year! I know I already have plans to run some BFG games, more AI, space hulk of course, and why not some mordhiem/necromunda? I'm thinking about having some computers set up with blood bowl running on them, maybe some Dawn of War 1 or 2... Open Gaming is where it's at man! I wanted to provide a refuge for people who might be iffy at going to bigevents, r
or players who just want casual wacky games!

Hope to see you next year!

Same here, I didn't so much have other plans rather my army isn't painted and I'm still getting back into the flow of 40k (stopped before 4th edition and came back earlier this year). However I've definitely been eyeing BoLSCon and checking out its forum and pics - looked like a blast! I love that there's such an event located in Texas too since this state's just so damn big.

Thanks for your experience, a diverse gaming population is always a plus!

I won the Overall in the Fantasy tournament with a meanie daemon list.

I must say I was impressed with BoLS Con, they avoided a lot of the hick-ups that hit first time events. The room was full of energy and a lot of stuff was going on. I got to see the new Space Hulk box and it has had a really nice repackaging. The price support for the winners was one of the best I’ve seen.

As for the timing of the game mentioned above, it was the same in the Fantasy side in that most everyone completed their game on time. Having the games so close to each other kept up the pace of the weekend as I never found myself waiting around.

I will concur about the Teco-Tyranid army. At these tournaments I rarely take more than a glance at the 40k armies, but that one caught my eye. I got a good look at it nad it had great conversions, was well painted and had a cool theme.

Maybe they (daemons) are good after all. Even Stelek could be wrong. Right?

Fantasy GBF, they won Fantasy.

From what I'm told, the Fantasy book is borked beyond belief.

The 40k book still sucks though.

Yeah,

I was concerned with the Dice Down rule, but for the most part I got every game to turn 5 at least.

I got lucky and took the Best 40K painted army with my Salamander Marines.

I did ok in the tourney, 3-1 the first day, then I got as high as the second place table (I lost due to a rule being confused) so went 4-1-2 for the tourney.

I was thinking later that a Space Marine dreadnought being charged by 18 hormagaunts should always end up being surrounded in the end of the assault phase.

Somehow though, there ended up being room for a carnifex to get base to base with my dread.

I think that the hormies were not moved correctly in the assault pile-in - consolidation move, they should have completely encircled me when it was just the hormagants and dreadnought and there should have been no room for a carnifex to charge in.

That was a game breaker for me... ah well, next time I will know

Well, I seem to remember you charging, not the gaunts charging you, through DT. Then I counter charged 6" having spread out during my turn to run from the nasty Iron Clad. You attacked and I lost three gaunts, so I took them from base to base with you so that I would have more space to fill so that I would hopefully not fully surround you. Then I moved them 6" in and it left a two inch gap behind your dread which my carni needed to make two DTs to get too. You asked the Judge and I never heard you ask him, or me, if the movements I made were wrong. I wish you would have said something to me.

I also seem to recall that the game went bad when you failed many morale tests in key combats, including a failed leadership test by Vulkan to see if he could assault my hive tyrant, due to the Horror power.

If you feel cheated I am sorry, I wish players would speak up or be more involved in key aspects of the game. I thought it was fun and I got very very lucky when I won. I just don't want you to feel cheated.

Yeah - I'm pretty sure that after the round of combat - any models not in base to base must move up to 6" and attempt to - so if they were close they should have been all around the base. If they were strung out from the point of initial charge - maybe not.

I think it sounds like one heck of a great tournament. Maybe next year I can make it. I'll probably bring my daemons just to see how they do... You know , just grins and chuckles, that's all.

I would love to see a breakdown of how the various armies performed overall.

Michael,

Im not accusing you of anything, I just think I didnt remember the rules correctly and if I had, they would all have had to be in base, put the facts that they were only 8 inches away at the start of the turn, combined with a 12 inch charge (they all had to get as close as possible, and then me only killing 2 or 3 and then the rest having to move in 6 inches to get base to base, I think there would have never been room for a monstrous base.

I lost 2 Ironclads to that pesky Carni, lol, so yeah the game would have been a bit different .

My breakdown of the tourney and the armies I fought:

Round 1 Salamanders VS Dark Eldar - Win

Rushing Dark Eldar, CC 2nd turn... ouch, he wiped out 3 combat squads.

Vulcan did some hurting before he died to a witch squad and incubi lord squad.

All the DE ended up dieing to bolter fire and Assault termies and Heavy flamers on my front.

2nd Round - Salamanders vs Eldar - Win

Line of Guardian storms with Eldrad and Avatar assault my front rank. Avatar took some wounds to snipers and lascannons, then my LR Redeemer came in with Assault Termies and Termie Librarian.

Succesful Null Field won the match for me once I assaulted with my assault termies.

Round 3 Salamanders vs Marines - Tie

Horrible mission rules made us hide our HQs the whole time, nothing else mattered unless the HQs died, so was a tie and a bit of a waste of a game

Round 4 Salamanders Vs Nidzilla - Won

Dont remember much on this one, but he was a bit lite on troops. Genestealers assaulted my Ironclad and killed it, making it explode and kill 5 stealers that run away.

Tyrants are fun melta targets.

Round 5 Salamanders vs Orks - Win

3 Battlewagons, nob bikers scared the crap out of me.
Droppodding a melta tact squad and not hurting his wagons sucked, they then got nobbiked charged (and survived long enough for my LR to deploy my termies and kill the bikers).

Battlewagons with shields dont like heavy flamers on the butt, go ironclads and Redeemers for the win!

Round 6 Salamanders vs nids - loss

Heavy hormagants, note to self termies dont like hormies.

Proceeded to kill all his tyrants in 2 rounds, dang zoanthropes keep synapse going.

My not knowing the rules killed my two ironclads, which would have helped a bit, that and vulcan not being able to assault a tyrant, sorta sucked.

Game 7 - Salamanders Vs Eldar - Loss

Played against my roommate and best friend -sucked!

We know our armies very well, so it was horrible, meetgrinding.

Seercouncils on bikes are so much gayness

So I did well for never playing this army before. I look foward to next year!

I took best painted army, so was going home with something cool.

Ill see you all next year!

Nick

Eh, it didnt matter, with 6 inch reaction move and 6 inch pile in, they would have had to cover me like ticks on a dog, but like i said, its done and done, i was more interested in seeing if other people thought thats what the rules would say.

We'll get the results up this week, but I'm not asking anyone to do anything until at least Wednesday. People do have jobs and families that need attention after being essentially abandoned for most of the last few months.

The event was overall successful, and I'll be negotiating with the same hotel for next year. Hope to see more of you there.

As far as time limit issues, the majority of our incomplete games centered around a few players, and most of the incompletes were 5 of 6 round affairs that an additional round was unlikely to change.

And yes, I did win my game with Jawaballs today before taking them to the airport.

Thanks to all attendees and staff; can't have an event without attendees, but it takes great staff to make an event go smoothly. We'll announce the 2010 dates soon.
