i think it's purty! looks like a deff dread or tau suit though, either way whatever you use it as scratch built models are fun and exciting to see at FLGS. Hell, i might even play against someone using legos. In my neck of the woods we play ghetto 40k with sticks and mud and we like it that way!!

I think you should start a thread in discussions about 'to scratchbuild or not to scratchbuild' since this is a thread about a model someone made and should not be diverted further into a wider discussion. Show respect to the OP and take the talk elsewhere.

I had one of the OOP original Dreadnaught models, it was the short leg one. I think I sold it on eBay a couple of years ago.

Mod: Everyone please remember that commenting on people's models should be constructive, not just a blast of "I don't like it."

This forum is about painting, modeling and conversion ideas, not the legality of them.
Comments should be constructive as to the actual model or technique itself. This is not.

Everyone lets remember Dakka Rule #1. Lets furhter remember the Dakka mods view this section as sacrosanct. Further violations will be dealt with, hearshly.

Personally, I like it. It's an original perspective on an established idea. True, the legs do look a little frail for the task but that's an oft made point on this model. Be nice to see the weapon arms as well, just to get a feel for the finished project.

Keep going, I'm interested to see how this turns out.

Lextheimpaler : As someone who's been going since RT was launched, I can remember the days when GW saw scratchbuilds as an essential part of the WH40K hobby. Back then players were encouraged to build skimmers from used deodorant bottles (as I'm sure other oldies will happy confirm) and the rulebook contained charts to help stat the results. As long as the build fits it's intended purpose, I'm happy to play against it (just tell me what I'm shooting at before the game). It's a GAME ! Intended to be FUN ! Modelling is also intended to be FUN. Lighten up, or you may just find the title of TFG being dropped on you

I would be afraid if that thing came running at me... until my 'nids ripped it open and pulled out the chewy inside, the point I'm trying to get across here is that it's cool.

Being an Ork, and truly loving the fact that I think I can do better then GW in my minds eye of what things should look like, this is just awesome. I love it when people want their armies to stand out from the rest. I like the whole thing so far man. Now put some blasted GUNS ON THAT SUCKER!

I think its a great looking piece. Yes the legs need to be buffed up a bit, but I for one would love to play against it. Cool and unique looking. Ignore the nay-sayers and keep up the great, imaginative builds. This game should be about fun and creativity, not negativity.
P.S. I support anyone who can scratchbuild and not have to pay GW's ridiculous prices. I'm broke and wish I had scratchbuilding skills.

I personally love the model, and would gladly play against it. It would make a good ranged dread or a tau crisis suit. OP, if you go the jumpy route as was aforementioned, I would suggest instead of bulking up the two legs that are there, add a third and make it a hopping tripod. That would be cool I think.

Edit: OMG, I missed the modquisition posts on page 2 as well. Doh! I wasn't going to bash or flame anyway, but I still edited to make it sound more polite.

I am a software tester and father of two little girls. I can't afford to "stop being a tight ass." The only reason I picked the hobby back up after 10 years was because of the concept of scratch building. , the only reason I stopped playing in the first place was price. Granted, I went with orks to avoid this very discussion (or at least try to avoid it). That is why I quit 10 years ago. It wasn't fun for me because it turned into the following scenario: "I think your a cool guy, but I don't value you as a player because you are not as rich as me."

/rant off
/back on topic=true

I think the dread is awesome. Convert away my friend! I think it needs some more SM flavor. IMHO, it needs emblem's, armor, and guns. My only other advice is to read my signature.
