When finished, it'll have two autocannons on top, a gatling gun arm (assault cannon), and chainsaw arm (to represent close-combat effectiveness). Painting not yet done, still needs to be cleaned up a lot. (unwanted specks of paint, base, etc.)

C&C would be much appreciated

i would not play that. dont be a tight ass go out and buy a real one and support the hobby. isnt there a rule somewhere that a conversion needs to be made up of a certain % of GW parts

It needs to be completely scratch built or i believe 90% GW parts however thats only in tournaments (and some gw stores if the employees are not very nice peoples D: ) I for one wouldnt mind playing against it however it looks like an ork dread to me and not sm... just my opinion.

And telling someone to not be a tight ass because they feel like building a model of their own is a bit harsh imo. Some people dont have the money to go out any buy every GW model they want... look at the fething prices... So dont go around telling people they are tight asses cause they didnt buy a GW model... its rude and uncalled for.

Ever hear of the aobr box luna? And this reminds me of the bionicle defiler. Id have to agree with lex as I wouldn't play against that. Or if I did I would be very unhappy about it.

Though I guess if you wanted me to contribute to this id suggest bulking up the leg and get rid of that fuel tank atop it.

Those platforms on the shoulders would be a great spot to put some weapons. Any plans for dressing up the front? Something that looks like a cockpit or control area?

A. OP has stated it's a WIP and will be getting arms.

B. Lex, a complete scratch built model is fine. See Also: 'not playing in a GW store'...

Some people dont want the trouble of buying AOBR box just to get a dred ( doesnt have all weapon option anyways )
not to mention the hassle of finding someone to trade the left overs.

If it occupies the same basic 'footprint' then saying you wouldn't play against it marks you down as a colossal arsehole or fanboi and I'm not overly sure which is worse.

FFS whilst playtesting different units I've fielded 2 units of 15 chaos warriors as lootas, a transformer and half a penitent engine as deff dreds and a plastic toy spider as a wartrakk scorcha.

@ Corey85- I ordered a catachan battleforce the other day, so I'll be using two of the autocannons from the heavy weapon teams atop the shoulders.

@ Valkyrie- Yes, the legs do look flimsy. The original idea was that it would use the rockets on its back to sort of "hop" around, using the legs only to stand on in between "hops." But since there's no rules that would work for that (and its a bit silly), I'll probably just add hydraulics and stuff to the legs once I get more plastic rod.

As for just buying a GW dreadnought, I, for one, think that the dreadnoughts look goofy. Thier legs are much too short and stubby to actually be used for walking, let alone charging into close combat.

Ah mgs you so mad. I couldn't care if he used this for a play testing role. But from the looks of it he plans on keeping this a permanent addition to his force. So ill stay safe in my ivory tower of awesome thank you very much.

And well I imagine the reason the legs on the dread are short and stubby are for the carrying capacity. I mean it does have fairly heavy armor on it and sentinel legs would just collapse under it I imagine.

It seems too tall. The legs needs to be bulkier otherwise it would seem unbalanced. But that's just me

did any of you people saying he should buy a proper dread/you wouldn't play against it EVER consider that fact that his entire army could be a "counts as" army being represented by alternate models.

Like Migsulas fantastic Army using Gundams, or an ork army i saw a few years ago that was made with Saurus warriors to represent a different species.

You're as bad as some of the people at my local GW.

As to the actual model I like it. I agree that the legs DEFINATELY need some bulking out, but apart from that it think it's quirky and cool.

Oooo...Now that is cool. I love scratch builds. Personally I like the hopping around the battlefield idea. There was actually a tank called the "Chrystie tank" in the 1920's that did just that. But if you want to properly represent that, you'd need to go "count as" Tau, and use it as as battlesuit. Hmm...not a bad idea. A human army with a retro future Jetson/1930 Flash Gordon theme, using Tau rules.

Also note he never said he could afford a Dreadnought people. Some people actually use "count as" for aesthetic reasons!

Why thank you ^ ^

And did he ever say that his whole army was counts as. No he didn't so one can only assume that the dreads hes making is being added onto an existing sm force that has tact marines and not very many if any counts as models.

On the other note id love to see a flash gordon themed 40k army.

I recognize some of those parts! There from an old line of figures known as 'Zoids' they are about as large as about 2 and a half space marines stacked on top of each other (although if they were there 'real(show)' hieght they'd be about as large as a 'real' carnifex) the point is the backpack is from a zoid known as the "liger Zero" the thing in the middle of the backpack is from the same zoid and the thing on the top is just a part used in many zoids.

GW's ass is clean enough, you can stop kissing it now. Pick up some creativity and ingenuity on the way out : )

Anyhoo, the dread's legs are a bit flimsy, some bulking up (in the form of plasticard armor plating, perhaps?) will do the model some good. It looks very sentinel-ish right now; I am interested in seeing what it looks like with arms and armor plating, adding to the heavy-duty-I've-been-around-for-millenia-badass feel dreadnoughts are wont to have.

Ok, just to set the record straight, yes, I can afford a GW dreadnought, I just don't like the way they look, personally.

@Genestealing- Correct! They were in fact from an ancient toy that was lying around somewhere. I plan on using the main body of it for some sort of vehicle, perhaps a Land Raider

@Sersi- You know, maybe a "counts as" tau army would work. I really haven't started anything else yet, so maybe.

In the meantime, I scratchbuilt an assault cannon arm, will get pictures up sometime.

Thanks for all the comments, all great ideas!

Looks pretty sweet - Nice scratch build, but yes, the legs look a little delicate. I agree it looks a little Xenos - Eldar or Tau.

I like it as an alternative to the Dreadnaught. Every dread I have ever seen is damn near identical, (save for weapon loadout) so I would be thrilled to see this on the table. (Model I have seen, I mean, not pictures of models) Keep posting pics of this! I want to see how it turns out.

Looks like something from Robot Chicken. Looks as silly as the old Sentinels. The old Dreadnoughts, not the OP's scratch built one. That one's kind of interesting, needs bigger legs though but that's been said.
