OT, I think GW does make attempts at generating artifical demand. Write the rules to generate interest in something they want to sell. The whole ethics thing I will leave to others.
One thing I DO love abotu these discussions when they pop up, is that there do not seem to be near as many people trying to empty their wallets into GW's coffers as Privateer Press. Wow, some of them folk appear to feel like they have a holy duty to sell their firstborn to get the cash to buy more models. Now, I feel that people should be recompensed for their work, but some of the things I have read spewing from their fingertips make me want to hide all the Kool-Aid I can find. So they won't, y'know; drink it?
I'm actually curious about this now grizgrin, do you have any examples?
About which, I covered some ground there. Well, looking back, no. To all. No, I was offering a half remembered anecdote. I wasn't pretending to actually know something to be fact along those lines, more trying to throw something out there that might stimulate someone else to actually remember something a bit harder that the echos floating round in my head. But frankly, that's getting to be a ludicrous proposition anymore anyway. Proof? On the internet? Almost as cliched as the internet toughguy.
Except the whole monologue on
PP. All the proof yo could want is right over there on their board. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of the sculpts; and it's weird but I like the game a lot more than I actually enjoy playing it (THAT was frustrating to figger out!). But some of those folks should have neon signs over their heads saying "Here there be egos". I think the whole PLYGAP schtick has become far too much of a mantra and way of life. It just turns some people into these little ego-zombies, FWOARing their way through the day.
Sorry I couldn't help much, Neco.

Er, last time I looked that was called capitalism. You're living in a society where pretty much everything is run on the basis of generating artificial demand amongst consumers, then selling stuff to them. There's nothing revelatory about it, and I'm surprised how many people still express surprise/anger/outrage at the fact that
GW operates along capitalistic principles (for the most part - sometimes it's not clear what's motivating them). Isn't it time the discussion moved past that?
I'm really not sure what Malfred's talking about, but I'm sure it makes perfect sense somewhere

Capitalism? Really? No gak? I was making a comment, I wasn't intending it to be some Revelatory Gospel of Judas or something. It was a comment, along the lines in import of "I'd like a grilled cheese." Where did you get this whole suprise/anger/outrage vibe in my post? Did I let slip some exclamation points interspersed with some ones, and failed to notice it? Can I just have my grilled cheese now?
It's "called capitalism". Laugh. Out. Loud.
I'd love to move the discussion on further. Roll ON, hombre.

Man, I hated the combo of two words that every Depeche Mode luvin' Eldar player used to say between sips of diet Sprite, "Guide, Doom". Kiss your most beast unit/guy/vehicle good-bye. The analogy back then was that GW created an arms race where they were the only supplier. It still rings true today.
Yep. Or, at least, sounds believable enough.

Tempting and entertaining. Sometimes a coin toss is as good as it gets, eh?
