I wish we'd get a game that covered lots of different eras so we can all get over the elitist attitudes towards non-3025 tech

It isn't elitist, it is just more enjoyable.

That is a matter of opinion.

I find it more enjoyable to have to worry greatly about heat, to not have extremely powerful ranged headcapping weapons, and have to fight tactically as opposed to just running up and gunning something down.

I prefer the game the way it was originally designed.

I prefer all of it, at once, simultaneously, by itself, separate - any combination. I accept the game as a whole.

The Land of the Rising Sun

I´m not against clan tech. I´m against the "I can only use a Dire Wolf" attitude.
Why not a game where the AC20 is a monster weapon for a change?

The AC/20 has always been and will always be a monster weapon. UAC20's ain't that much better (in fact, more than 50% they're not worth it), and the LB-20X has different applications.

The AC/20 is something to be rightly feared all the way through BTech. The humble Hunchback is still something to be wary of on the battlefields of 3076.

QFT. back in MC and MC@ the Hunchback was a target that gained my attention quickly, never had the fun of pioting one or going toe to toe against one. though the Victor was enough a bad boy packing an AC/20, I had a Varrient built all about getting into your face and striiping your mech apart with SRMs and the LBXAC/20. though my personal favorite had to be the 85 ton Warhawk(2CERPPCS,1CGauss,CERLarge Laser, rest of tons went to armor and heat sinks), next in line was the Summoner, followed by the Mad Dog. the Bushwacker and Uziel were awesome work horses. but as for the game tech, I would love to pilot some Star League era mechs such as the Panther, Firestarter,Crab,Enfield,Starslayer,Marauder, Orion, Pillager, Thug, Banshee and Highlander. I hope it stays true to the Mechwarrior setting and lets you swap out your weapons, or prehaps they can surpase that and Bring a More CBT feel to it by letting you design your own mech from the body up.

wow...longer than I thought I was going to write up ><

Btw, Level 2 designs have to worry greatly about heat as well. The better weapons generally have a higher heat cost also, and there's not that many cannon designs that can fire everything and not build up heat. Standard PPC's can headcap (I consider anything that does 10+ a headcapper, as they can get a cockpit hit). And level 2 mechs DO fight tactically. I had quite a win record in Clan vs Clan fights for awhile when I was playing seriously because I would fight tactically.

Anyone who thinks heat doesn't affects units with DHS hasn't been paying much attention.

The large majority do not have the heat problems of a SHS L1 design.

3025 has the following mechs that can run, fire all the forward weapons, and not take any heat penalties:

Assassin, Awesome, Banshee, Centurion, Charger, Cicada, Clint, Commando, Dragon, Enforcer, Goliath, Grasshopper, Griffin, Hatchetman, Hermes II, Hunchback, Jagermech, Javelin, Locust, Ostscout, Panther, Shadow Hawk, Spider, Stinger, Urbanmech, Valkyrie, Victor, Vindicator, Vulcan, Wasp, Wolverine. 31 Mechs in total, not including official variants. There are some that have bad heat managment, but I think you're looking through rose-colored glasses.

I don't think we really needed to include the Charger in the list, it's kinda obvious....

Well, I was just going through all the mechs There are quite a few cool-running ones than some people realize.

Of course they don't. They have a whole slew of new heat problems that come from having weapons with higher heat creation.

Not take PENALTIES, but are not heat neutral. Big difference. I will also point out it is generally more difficult to maintain an offensive presence and still dissipate heat in 3025, requiring more tactical thinking.

As soon as you can dissipate as much heat as many DHS designs can, heat becomes much less of an issue. Only a handful of 3050+ generate more than 10 heat, and only one is used often, the ER PPC.

Yes, the XL engine and other weight savings materials mean you can pack more firepower on to tax that system, but you are getting so much more out of it that it is ridiculous NOT to mount Double Heat Sinks on a design, even if it doesn't need them.

I'm not dogging and saying later eras of play or Clan play are BAD, but to me they are far less enjoyable.

Don´t make me search for my 3050/3055 TROs and write down the designs where some shurat decided to upgrade the weapons and leave the SHS, Panther I´m looking at you.

Scorpion...Upgraded the PPC, but kept the 10 SHS...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Out of the 79 mechs in 3050, only 25 are heat neutral (And only 14 of those have DHS).

3055 has no heavies, and only two of the assaults are heat neutral.

Heat management is still very much an issue in level 2 play. Yes, you can make efficient custom designs that are heat neutral - but you can in level 1 play also.

Panther and Scorpion had FLUFF reasons why they didn't get double heat sinks.
