Akebono Tarō fought in K-1 for 3 years, he finished with a record of 1-12. Not really surprising, since he wasn't particularly agile and lacked any kind of appropriate technique. Ultimately, while sumo are very powerful, they generally can't apply that power in a way which is particularly useful in a combat sport like MMA.

I call fake on that photo.

As for sumo wrestlers outside of sumo, no-one above claimed they were the best fighters, merely the most powerful. In such a highly stylised and ritualised contest as theirs, very few of the techniques they learn are applicable to actual fighting in the real world.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.
