Nope my only account.

I bet you were expecting me to fly off the handle with an insane response. Well the trolls on you. You're a day late and a troller short. You're all dressed up with nowhere to troll. Think of this as an albatroll around your neck. Make no trolls about it. You're all mouth and no troll. The troll is on the other foot. A trolling stone gathers no troll. The troller has become the trolley. As you troll so shall you troll. It's like you trolled out of the troll side of the troll this trolling. Remember the troll may be troller on the other troll but it's troll as troll to troll.

Mine actually says that my first account (from Russ days) got lost and I had to start over.................
Other than that, post count just means that's how often people post and is no indicator of reliability, of how much they actually play, etc etc

Call me old fashioned but I look at post history. Feel free to ignore this since I have less the 500 posts, joined in 08, I'm not being block quoted and I'm the 14th poster in this thread.

Arrr, I remember back in the 'ole days when titles were based soley in post count and dakka had a new thread every week asking "how many posts do I need to get promoted to 'marine'?"

Them's were the days, arrr!

I agree, but there's something to be said for a certain awareness that in certain areas a long time poster probably knows more than a new guy. These are things like discussions on the forum culture itself, or certain topics that get hashed out time and again. When I was active in usenet, there were a few Newsgroups that had awards like "Newb that thinks he thought of something new to add" for new posters that think they're adding to a debate but really just retreading ground that's long been exhausted.

It's pretty uncommon though, and probably no different than the certain symbolic respect we give all people with more time invested in a community.

I agree Polonius.

Also, a long time poster who has thousands of posts and isn't banned speaks volumes about his/her place in the community, right? That's another intangible.

I dont really look at the counts at all.(I crapped when I saw Gonads has 25k lol. DEAR LORD MAN!)
I dont look at the join time either. That just shows who likes to chat, and how long theyve been here. I go by what the person says. If I get my answer, or read something that I totally agree with, then Im happy.

Also Id like to add, that DAKKA is really the only 40k forum I post on. I also belong to a mud bogging forum.( but thats neither here nor there) So all my 40k jargin comes here.

I don't even pay attention to post counts. I do recognize a few avatars here and there but I don't exactly hang on someone's word just because they I've gotten to know the little picture next to their posts.

My post count shows that I really have nothing better to do at work, and that I like to participate in the community. Slightly less so lately though as I just see the same threads over and over and over. Then there's YMCD which I dont go to, its kinda like Ravenholm. We just don't go there.

this is the only forum i really use
i've had a lot of time to kill while job hunting
i should paint more.

as for people with large post counts, the only thing it effects, for me, is how quickly bits of their personality get compared to someone i know in real life, due to seeign them in so many sections of dakka

Anyone who repeatedly posts utter nonsense that makes people angry just so they can increase their post count is an absolute spanker.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

""Young upstart""??????
"Possible troll"

Oh the joy of a warm welcome.....

Just to let y'all know:
I am a 45 yo married man with children.
I started in gaming back in 1981, first with AD&D, before moving on to SFB. The players I game with range in age from 16 to 49, and have jobs ranging from Game store boy, architect, EPA worker, a State Trooper, and an ex NYPD officer ( me ) and a retired Federal agent. We have tried the dead-hard-can't-be-touched combos, but to us as a group, there is no joy in a bloodbath. That is NOT a slur against anyone who enjoys that kind of game. We have one of that type in our group as well. The "must win at all costs" player who spends hours finetuning his army.
I currently have an eldar army, Chaos force, half a company of SM's, and a nucleus of Imperial guard. and have been playing the game since 1989.
I enjoy 40K, FOW, classic Battletech, Warmachine, BFG and A Call to Arms.

I know this isn't the right place for a bio, but I felt it was necessary.

Again, my apologies to everyone for starting a topic that was "beaten to death", but I was trying to understand the mindset.

Hurra I am a troll!
No serious the term "young upstart" was only related to your post count. As mentioned before this topic comes up a lot.

hmm, I look more for the 'olde guard...' from the green-dakka days when 3rd was but a rumor on Portent and Snord loved the orks...

So after being in the hobby for so long, the threads just go through the same cycles over and over again... so it's army profiles I look for nowadays... it proves that the poster is not all theory-hammer, and I always like pretty pics

Well there are only 2 of us.

Malfred I know is forever painting Privateer Press armies and I put out a painted army every year or so (once upon a time, back when dakka was all fresh and new, I used to run 12 armies concurrently).

People with high postscount lend flavour to a forum. For instance, in Dakka its people like Malfred, H.B.M.C, Wuestenfux, Gwar!, JohnHwangDD, Polonius, Alpharius, Migsula, Yakface, Mauleed, Kid Kyoto, Waagh Gonads, BrookM and many others who make this a place worth visiting. You just know that when you read an hour on Dakka a week, your going to get some nice oneliners from H.B.M.C. on Jervis and the wonders of Arbitrary codices, JohnHwangDD refuting this etc... Its make it feel like a hometown when you know folk. I mean, who here doesnt remember KidKyotos weekly changing sigs about the AngryMarines and the Black and White marines and such. Ive shed tears of laugther at the compilation of those epic fragments.

About the quality of advice in strategy/tactics etc? You have to pay attention to a posters reasoning. To an extent the quality of the reasoning can be compensated for by authority. Mauleed for instance is such a renowned tournament-player that things he says carry some weight. Some is true for Therion (old Dakka?), Wuestenfux, 40kEnthusiast and others.
