Sometimes it is hard to judge if the posts are based on experience or some would-be knowledge.

Well, I have more than 10,000 posts at several boards,
played in several GT's (incl. finals),
won about half of the monthly RTT's I played,
and I'm a mathematician but generally too lazy to do the math at the boards.

Exactly, there are porbably some people with less than 30 posts that could be better than the ones with over 1000.

Am I interpreting this right... You think that the number posts a user has determines credibility?

Wow.

Focus on the post content and then determine credibility.

It's always people with small 'post counts' that say this. Nobody with a large 'post count' ever says 'I was happier with a small post count'. Look at the top of the page, it doesn't say 'Thanks for hardly posting'.

After a certain post count users should have to pay to play through DCM although at my rate I'd soon reach such a standard.

The more posts you have (this is in jest people, I've got 300 posts and I registered in May):

1. The more boring your job is
2. The more boring and worthless your schooling is
3. The less you actually play Warhammer, safe to say most of us talk more about Warhammer than play it
4. The less you actually paint your models

And the song that best captures getting high post counts:

I love my job, but I need to step away from it mentally (there's very little hope of being able
to get away physically until the bell rings, and even then it carries home with me)

2. The more boring and worthless your schooling is

Not really in this case, either.

The less you actually play Warhammer, safe to say most of us talk more about Warhammer than play it

True, especially in regards to Warhammer for me. Forums kept my interest in the game during
a time in my life when I had money to afford some of the stuff yet couldn't get time or the
transportation to play or learn how to paint anywhere. I pretty much attribute much of what
I know about painting to the Internet.

4. The less you actually paint your models

Not true. I get a lot of posting done in between painting individual soldiers or colors.

Guess you're 1 out of 4 for me.

Call me old fashioned but I look at post history. Feel free to ignore this since I have less the 500 posts, joined in 08, I'm not being block quoted and I'm the 14th poster in this thread.

Well obviously a lot of posts means you're active on the forum. That's really the only info you can infer from that. I've noticed a few people on this board who have absolutely no real in game knowledge of 40k, and post in the upwards of the thousands.

And I've read posts by more conservative posters who really understand the game. And honestly, If I *had* to put my money on "who's a better player, posters or lurkers?", I'd say lurkers largely are better players. Like any other strategy game I've ever played, the best players are usually relatively quiet.

For tactical stuff, I don't think post count matters at all. I mean, I know some of the posters that regularly win tournaments post less frequently, and generally dont' feel the need to argue points. they say their piece and walk away.

As a relatively prolific poster myself, I generally recognize most posters that have a higher post count than I do, so I don't really judge them based on that, as I know them. I do know that judging the merit of any of any poster by post count alone is pretty worrisome, as there are some very prolific posters with whom I disagree quite often. So, at least one of us is wrong...

I think post count is irrelevant, but I have known some people on forums to use post count as who had more "credibility" to their points of view, etc. Personally, I think that is hilarious and sad. It's about content...not the amount of posts for me.

Being prolific doesn't make an author good, but neither does the opposite. Compare Gav Thorpe, Stephen King and Mark Twain by the amount of publications, is there any indication who the better author is?

I agree, but there's something to be said for a certain awareness that in certain areas a long time poster probably knows more than a new guy. These are things like discussions on the forum culture itself, or certain topics that get hashed out time and again. When I was active in usenet, there were a few Newsgroups that had awards like "Newb that thinks he thought of something new to add" for new posters that think they're adding to a debate but really just retreading ground that's long been exhausted.

It's pretty uncommon though, and probably no different than the certain symbolic respect we give all people with more time invested in a community.

Out of everything here... I agree with Nurglitch as above! The number of post means nothing about the way someone games, they are different and unrelated issues. Basically a person's post count means, they are either active on a forum or not. That's about it. I've seen great feedback from new posters, and idiotic responses from people a large post count.

Afterall.... its not like there's a "extra 100 vp for posting 1000x on dakka" scoring system in WFB

I bet you were expecting me to fly off the handle with an insane response. Well the trolls on you. You're a day late and a troller short. You're all dressed up with nowhere to troll. Think of this as an albatroll around your neck. Make no trolls about it. You're all mouth and no troll. The troll is on the other foot. A trolling stone gathers no troll. The troller has become the trolley. As you troll so shall you troll. It's like you trolled out of the troll side of the troll this trolling. Remember the troll may be troller on the other troll but it's troll as troll to troll.
