Only problem with the outsourcing is that it is going to take longer to get your stuff. It took them several months to send me a drop crate interior through UPS express.

Despite the good quality, I think FW is running out of ideas. Unless they start resculpting, they are going to run out of good business. I mean, impressive models, but weathering powder? Thta's just sad.

That was a bit desperate, wasn't it? Have a look at the new Ork vehicles - especially the Mega Dread - and the reaction they've received, and then tell me they're 'running out of ideas'. As for weathering powders - what's your problem with them? They're pitched at people who want to achieve the more realistic weathering effects that FW have started to display on their painted models (as a result of hiring military modelling gurus like Phil Stuchinkas). Just because you're not interested doesn't make them 'sad'.

As for Brook's happiness at receiving good quality casts from FW, I think it's always been a bit of a lottery. Every set of Tau vehicle accessories I bought was miscast, and the small Squiggoth I bought had a lot of crap on the underside which I gave up trying to carve off. And some of the small minis I've bought have had way too much flash and excess resin on them. But the Ork big gunz I've bought were perfectly cast, as were the many different Marine vehicle accessories. I've been told by one of the guys who's talked to FW about resin casting in China that one of their main problems is producing enough models to keep up with demand. The moulds wear out fast, and they rush the process, so you get miscasts and excessively oily surfaces. Also, they add grey paint to the resin to make it look like their grey plastic, and this often messes it up (they seem to have stopped doing this). New releases do seem to be better cast - the Biker Warboss I bought a few months ago is perfect, and the resin is crisp and clean. I plan to buy the new Ork tank farily quickly, while the moulds are still fresh - once I've summoned up the nerve to pay the asking price.

The weathering powders weren't a bad idea, but if I'm going to get into that I'll probably try either Tamiya or MIG.

You're right, it's sad, and probably has nothing at all to do with the Forgeworld painting book they recently released. Nothing at all.

Saw the Mega-Dread, and I can stil say they are running out of ideas. It's just like a Deff Dred crossed with a Stompa, then given arm ssold seperatly just like Reaver Titans. Original? Hardly.

You're right, I'm sorry. The fact that aspects of the Mega Dread bears a resemblance to other Ork models proves beyond doubt that FW are creatively bankrupt

I got that as well, it's almost as if the models are built around the same design aesthetic, but we know that would never happen [/sarcasm]

Just because one guy got lucky with his order by no means suggest that everyone else will get the same treatment.

I was considering doing a Elysian force, for use in WH40K and other games, they are really nice futuristic models, and I thought they'd be great as a merc unit or security force....however, for the price I want something substantially better than the basic GW Cadians.....by the looks of things this isn't going to be a guaranteed outcome...so I'll spend my money elsewhere

It makes perfect sense for FW to have their own weathering powders.

All the demo models and the painting books make extensive use of them. Why tell everyone to go and buy Mig when they could be pushing their own brand?

And maybe, just maybe the FW powders will see shelf time in GW stores.
