I know one of the local gunsmiths here in town and he has a sign posted on his door and countertop "$50 "fine" charged if at any point you are showing me the problem with your gun the barrel gets aimed at my face, intentional or not" and yet on occasion he still has customers that don't know how to handle a gun and still flash the end of the barrel past his face.

With proper training (which in most states you need to get the necessary permits and paperwork) it's not hard to forget how to load and unload safely.

--The whole concept of government granted and government regulated 'permits' and the accompanying government mandate for government approved firearms 'training' prior to being blessed by government with the privilege to carry arms in a government approved and regulated manner, flies directly in the face of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

Wikipedia wrote:The use of the unofficial nickname the Show-Me State has several possible origins. The phrase "I'm from Missouri" means I'm skeptical of the matter and not easily convinced. This is related to the state's unofficial motto of "Show Me," whose origin is popularly ascribed to an 1899 speech by Congressman Willard Vandiver, who declared that "I come from a country that raises corn and cotton, cockleburs and Democrats, and frothy eloquence neither convinces nor satisfies me. I'm from Missouri, and you have got to show me." However, according to researchers, the phrase was in circulation earlier in the 1890s.[45] According to another legend, the phrase was a reference to Missouri miners brought to Leadville, Colorado to take the place of striking miners and being unfamiliar with the mining methods there required frequent instruction.[46]

It has also been known as the Puke State, perhaps on account of an 1827 gathering at the Galena Lead Mines. George Earlie Shankle [47] "...so many Missourians had assembled, that those already there declared the State of Missouri had taken a 'puke.'"[48] Within the state, “pukes” referred before the Civil War to impoverished citizens who nonetheless supported slavery, the equivalent of “poor white trash.”[49] Walt Whitman has listed “pukes” as a nickname for Missourians.[50]

Missouri is also known as "The Cave State" with over 6000 recorded caves (second to Tennessee). Perry County has both the largest number of caves and the single longest cave in the state.[51]

Other nicknames include "The Lead State", "The Bullion State", "The Ozark State", "Mother of the West", "The Iron Mountain State", and "Pennsylvania of the West".[52]

There is no official state nickname[53] however the official state motto is "Salus Populi Suprema Lex Esto,", Latin for "Let the welfare of the people be the supreme law."[54]

Sure, but who doesn't feel superior to Ark?

Now if you want to get things rolling, tackle Texas - they haven't been brought into the fray, yet.

One of my favorite little moments from the movie 'Tremors' is when in order to get the scared kid to break cover and run, the resident survivalist gun nut hands him a big ass revolver. When all the characters make a break for it, the kid tries to take a shot, only to find the gun is empty. Once they've reached safety, the gun nut takes the revolver back while the kid shouts,
'Burt, you donkey-cave! There weren't any bullets!'
'It got you moving, didn't it?' And as he's saying that, despite the fact he knew the gun was empty when he handed it to the kid, despite the fact the kid pulled the trigger and nothing happened, the survivalist gun nut flips out the cylinder and makes sure that it's clear before he stows the gun.

As I understand it, you don't have to pass any kind of a competency test to buy a gun.

I believe it is at the discretion of the seller (that is my assumption at least). If Charles Manson walks into a gun store with a freshly tatooed swastika on his forehead and an adult diaper on, ideally the seller will refuse to hand over a rifle to him.

I meant a competency test in the sense of knowing how to operate the machinery safely, like a car licence, or a crane operator's licence.

People still have accidents in cars of course, despite having a licence.

Perfectly plausible, although a one in a million chance kind of thing. Depending on what you're shooting, a bullet has enough momentum to travel 1-3 miles before it hits the ground. If you win the unlucky lottery and get the perfect circumstances for a round to ricochet straight back at you, at 100, 150m it's still going to have more than enough energy to seriously hurt you.

I'm not positive but I've seen that vid elsewhere and I think it was a .50cal that he shot and had ricochet. No good shot of the gun in that clip so I'm not positive but it has been mentioned on other sites. His head bleeding could mean that it actually physically made contact with him or just getting close enough would cause a severe burn.

Again, just speculation as to rifle type. I can try to do more homework.

*Edit.

My bad, thinking of another video. Apparently the bullet lodged in the guys head, he went to the ER and had it removed and then went right back out the next day but apparently put a helmet on. Perhaps it would have been smarter to stack some hay up behind the target(s) to absorb the round?

About to eat your Avatar...

This is most definitely more depressing than humorous (it really isn't that funny though... but humor is not confined to funny) and it is really too bad that stuff like this happens.

TBH though, this dude... who I do not know, was doing something so absolutely freaking slowed... I mean with the super secret sauce dumb...

Anyway, there is definitely humor here, and we all know the JohnHwangDD has only love for his soldiers, his women, and his steak... which I think is fair enough, but still slightly disturbing with the gallows humor and all; which is a thing to take in stride to be sure.

Okay... .

Take a look through this, I am not sure you understand why some of us think this is humorous. Ironic would be a better way of putting it, as Kilkrazy said.

There is a huge difference between being nuked through no fault of your own, and blowing your own brains out in the name of "gun safety".

The former is tragedy, whereas the latter is comedy gold.

No, an accident is when he bumps the gun off the table, and it discharges. Or if he fumbles the gun, it hits the ground, and discharges.

Deliberately pointing the gun at his head and pulling the trigger is suicide and well-deserved.

First of all.. that would be frakking epic incorporated to the freaking ninth power... man... that would have to be the best way to die ever. If death holds no comedy for you... I cannot imagine how you are going to cope with it when it happens and stuff. I think that pooping your pants is a good alternative, because then everyone can have a good laugh before the meteor kills us all. I am not talking about pooping your pants at an old age, I am talking about pooping your pants at a middle age, and everyone thoroughly enjoying the comedy that is your poop.

If I recall correctly, you lol'd (in capitals) at someone else's sexual misfortune in a recent thread. How is laughing at someone who has the ironic circumstances of fething coconuts and watermelons funny when this situation holds absolutely no humor at all to you... none... at... frakking... all.

Would you happen to be as well? Or is that as accurate an attack as you can muster?

You walked into a thread celebrating this guys life (in whatever way, he got his remembrance) in respect to the humor that he brought to all of us (and in some ways the wisdom)... to say we are all evil?

Wait... evil and sad, because laying a guilt trip has to be done in layers... like a cake or some such nonsense.

I had a friend who died in a hunting accident. His gun misfired and killed him. It was in the newspaper and local news. If I saw that someone were to make fun of it I think I would be justified to say it was not funny. Maybe it's funny to you for whatever reason but I think you should just keep it to yourself. That's my opinion.

If you mean Dakka, no-one is keeping you here. If you dont like it leave and never come back. But most wargaming forums lack the community Dakka has, so go back to your soulles forums complaining about how were all WAAC power gamers.

According to witnesses, Looney was going to take his girlfriend to the shooting range the next day, but insisted on firearm safety the day prior.

People accidentally shooting themselves in the head isn't uncommon. Earlier this month, a Tennessee man suffered a non life-threatening injury after he accidentally shot himself in the head. Last month, a Florida man was handling an unfamiliar gun when it went off and shot him in the head .

I had a friend who died in a hunting accident. His gun misfired and killed him.

The difference here is... well honestly man, if you just don't get it, you just don't freaking get it. Notice how this is a "common" thing, even though pretty much everyone knows what happens when you pull the trigger on a gun pointed at your head. Do it with a freaking BB gun if you need to get rid of some stress FFS.

Your lack of understanding is profuse to say the least mate. No one talked smack about your friend, and now that you are using him to defend yourself, I feel like your either lying, or you could care less about what kind of impression you are giving. I have family that has died from all sorts of stuff, but that does not stop me noticing something humorous and having a good laugh over it... fail blog time man... fail blog.

Wow... I am so convinced about that thing that just happened... I should feel bad now.
