I just spent a 6 hours traveling to and returning from my closest GW on a coach bus from the arsehole of Chiba (it is a very nice arsehole) to the city to buy some sealant, super glue drying catalyst spray stuff and one mini. I'm a dedicated nerd.

I live in the Tampa-FL area, where theres MANY gaming/hobby stores. The key is to buy from the ones with the best discounts........
http://www.anthem-games.com/
http://www.armadagames.com/
http://skulnbonz.com/
http://www.hobbytown.com/
http://www.emeraldcitycomics.com/
http://www.pendragon-online.com/
Each of these stores are between 5mins and 45mins drive from my house-
There are MANY more if you want to drive an hour one way, but I was considering these close-to-home.
PLUS- there are stores near me that are old-school and have NO website.........
It must suck to live somewhere without local gaming stores?

The nearest and only FLGS that i know of is about an 30min drive away from here , and it sells everything from GW exept for FOW , but also stuff as comics , action figures and stuff .
We also have a gaming "room" which is a building with about 3 tables for gaming and then there are three really long , semi-wide tables for painting ...
I know , we Icelanders are small , but there are so few in this hobby so we realy dont need anything bigger

The Fallout Shelter (ten minute walk) is primarily a comic shop, but they stock board games and Magic cards, as well (read: useless to me). Closest thing with GW stuff and wargaming tables is The Only Game in Town, about a 15-20 minute drive away in Sayreville.
http://www.togit.com/
Not the biggest or most impressive store ever, but they have a few tables for wargaming, a few tables for painting, and a few tables for card-/boardgames. They've got a TON of Magic cards and a solid selection WFB and 40k, as well as paint. They don't have EVERY single GW product and probably not more than one box or two of a unit on the shelves, but they have enough to flesh out pretty much any army. They also carry FoW, Axis & Allies, and assorted other cardgames, boardgames and minis.

I had a FLGS store ~15 mins from me, but it closed suddenly in May. My nearest FLGS is now an almost 2 hour round trip :(
Nearest GW is 2.5 - 3 hours away (one way) because GW in their wisdom decided the Chicago area needs like 14 stores while the entire rest of Illinois (as well as all of Indiana, Missouri and Iowa) don't get any.

I have the GW in Newcastle CBD (5 minute drive).
I have The Outpost in Wallsend (15 minutes away) with gaming space/tables.
I will soon have another independent in the CBD (where GW have had it too easy for too long.). After the late 80's quake, most businesses relocated leaving the cbd a ghost town.
I have another independent in Gosford (80 minutes away by train) that also has gaming space.

Currently I'm in the middle of the ocean where there are no gaming stores but before this I had a Battle Bunker a short drive one way and another GW store the other. Also around there was friendly chain store (won't name) where I'd buy paint, brushes and tank accessories. One of the employees (who used to do 40K) would give me the chain's standard military discount despite the store owner's personal no military discount policy. That place ruled.

Soooo true!!
There was a Train/hobby store in [ see forum posting rules] Rapids 10 mins away that was owner/operated by a retiree. Crabby ole bastard is an understatment. He closed it one day when he "no longer had any fun".

I'm glad to see there are so many votes for FLGS! Not that the GW stores are bad, but I've never really been able to fall in with any of the crowd like I have with my local shop ( Avalon Comics & Games). I live in the Puget Sound though and for some reason GW has decided to inundate us with sotres in the last few years. Like I said, not bad, but I just want to go where everybody knows my name.

I live in the center of Cape Town, South Africa. There's a comic shop called Outer Limits that stocks boardgames, magic cards, and some warhammer stuff. They're very friendly. They don't keep much GW stock but if I want something they can organise.
The closest place I know that I would call a FLGS (sells primarily games/minis/books about games, and I think it has tables) is about 15min drive away in the suburbs. As far as I know there are no GW stores in the country.

Maybe one day i'll get round to adding a signature, but probably not. |

I live near three games workshop stores, the closet one being about 2-3mins drive away the next about 15-20mins and the last also 15-20 mins. What's also gr8 is that the workers every now and then "Invade" another store. Last time we invaded GW bromley twas awesome. Oh, and all the stores are brilliant...though sutton (the last one) is the crummiest and Croydon (the first one) is the best seeing as everyone knows my name

I have 7 km to gw and about 3.5 km to friendly gaming store. I go to both to buy and wage war. 3.5 store has more variety in players but low on numbers while gw has hordes of gamers but every one seems to serve the blue paintpot at it's golden throne.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.
If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in. |
