Man, that Praetorian army is beautiful, Ninja Garden did an amazing job! Your Rough Riders caught my eye though....lances mounted directly to the bike...I love it, consider it stolen
Great stuff!

I must say, the troops look great, but i've never been a big fan of Praetorian guard vehicles painted all red and blue like that. I think i'd prefer them in desert colours with red and blue regimental markings.

The bases could be a bit more interesting, especially the larger ones (heavies, sentinels). Maybe glue on some bits appropriate to your usual game terrain

Very nice, rarely see Praetorians these days. My only idea which is one I've seen employed many times to great success is that if you're going to have a display field useing your play army, either magnitize the army's feet to their bases or cut base slots in the display field to put the model flush with the area around it, kind of a pain in the ass but so worth it.

Hmmm nice, though I think you've got the large rather then small Roughrider bodies, the larger ones are made to fit onto Cadian legs rather then the Roughrider ones.

I'd quite like to see more of your Marbo conversion. I really like what I've seen so far. Although a part of me always thought a Gurkha looking mofo would make a great Marbo for a Praetorian force as well.

That is correct. At the time of purchase I thought the smaller torsos were intended for youth soldiers so I opted to get the larger ones.

My compliments to you on making these conversion pieces available. Without your work creating them and TrooperPX's casting, I would have been up the proverbial creek when it came to getting some decent rough riders for this army.

Yeah, those rough rider bits were absolutely necessary. They needed some green stuff to make them into bikers (riding a horse you don't bend over as much as on a motorcycle) but without them, trying to make Praetorian bikers would have been a nightmare.

On a side note- I never asked if the bikes were old Space Marine bikes or if they were old Imperial Guard bikes. I was guessing space marine bikes, but I don't remember exactly what those 80s bikes all looked like.

Also, I wonder if I can find pics of the old imperial jetbikes...

From what I can tell the Marine bike and IG bike are the same miniature because they look identical to me. I may be incorrect, though.

Here is a catalog shot of the IG bike and Jetbike: http://www.solegends.com/citcat911/c2045impguardbikes-m.htm

Here is the Marine bike: http://www.solegends.com/citcat911/c2022smbikes-m.htm

Funny thing about this Rough Rider unit is it almost became a jetbike squad. When I first set out to gather bits I was buying up both types of bikes but I was able to locate more motorcycles than jetbikes so I scrapped the jetbike idea within a few weeks.

I do have a complete jetbike and some jetbike parts if anyone needs them.

I'll get some more shots of Marbo on the weekend.

A Gurkha Marbo would be cool! I wish I had thought of that.

Well, Ghurkas have always been kept rather contemporary as far as their equipment goes. As far as I know they still get the same gear the Brit regulars do, and get to carry a Kukri.

Officers could be done with Terai (thier hats) and the troops could be done up to match your Preatorians style wise, but with regular helmets/fatigues, and kukri knives.

I don't know about models, but ghurka fighters should definitely use the same rules as penal legions. They're not regular line troopers proper, so you're never 100% certain what blend of special combat skills you're going to get, and they're basically the same quality as normal troops, except with the addition of their local customs.

Plus, the "constable" that goes with them could be a regular praetorian model brought along to keep the irregulars in check.

Penal legions? Seriously? They are too random, Ghurkas fall more into the Veteran category. If the Prince deploys with the Ghurkas, that kinda tells you they arent just line troops.

And saying they need a 'constable' to keep them in check is kind of insulting to the spirit of the Ghurkas- as they are noted for thier extreme bravery, loyalty and strength in combat. Theres alot of reasons that the Brits made sure to keep the door open for the Ghurkas when they formed the Tirpartite Agreement when India gained its independence in 1947.

A little thread nec...er update!

Garden Ninja Painting has been working hard since my last update and this army has grown by quite a bit.

Since my last update I have added:

20 Praetorian Troops
2 Praetorian Casualty Objective Markers
10-man Penal Legion Squad (Kroot with Praetorian Overseer)
10-man Kilted veteran shotgun squad
10-man veteran plasma squad
10-man Vostroyan plasma squad
10-man Steel Legion plasma squad
Armorcast Warhound Titan "Glory of Sekhmet"
Forge World Griffon Mortar Tank
Forge World Destroyer Tank Hunter
Forge World Hydra Flak Tank (second tank in army)
Leman Russ Exterminator Tank
Deathstrike Missile Launcher
2 Bionic Lions (counts as HQ bodyguards)
2 Converted Officers

I may be forgetting a few things, but as you can see a lot has been added since May 2010.

The photos below are just a portion of the additions listed above. I'll likely add to this thread in the next few days.

As before the terrain was made by me and the the figures were painted by Garden Ninja paint studio.

Enjoy!

He came out blurry, but the gentleman in the back of the kroot formation is the overseer. Even more difficult to see are the sculpted explosive collars around the neck of each Kroot model. The overseer was made by taking a Lascannon weapons team member who was holding a remote control (used here as a remote detonator) and adding a green stuff cloak. The story behind the unit is that the kroot were captured and enslaved by the Praetorians through the use of the explosive collars. The overseer detonates any rebellious kroot who refuse to fight or try to escape. In return for their service the kroot get to eat what they kill.

This final shot would be perfect if the lead kroot weren't blurry. Oh well, I like the sense of scale the titan lends to the shot. If you look carefully you will see this army's doom lurking in the background. Unbeknownst to the noble Praetorians their recent battle attracted the ire of a warp beast known as Felinicus Atrabilious!

as a fellow praetorian player, I must say well done indeed.

Well, it has been a while since I last updated this blog.

Since that time I have expanded this Praetorian army quite a bit but one of the items I am most excited to show off is the Malcador Infernus.

I haven't had an opportunity to use this tank in a game yet, but I have no doubt that when it hits the table there will be some spectacular fireworks (either from its flame cannon or the tank's early demise)!

Like all of the Super Heavy vehicles in my army this one uses a naming convention that centers around the Egyptian goddess Sekhmet. This Infernus is named "The Bellows of Sekhmet." Like the other models in my army this was painted by Drew at Garden Ninja Painting. The model's fuel carriage is magnetized to allow for ease of storage/transport and gaming.

Also, I took a group shot of my army (minus my Warhound titan) and that can be seen below. A list of my current army's contents can be found by following the blog link in my signature. Plus there are other pictures of the army there too.
