How is accusing people of crimes, never having it go to trial, and instead relying on widespread hatred towards the accused to be the punishment for the possible crime any sort of justice system?

You're wrong there Cheese, I feel the same way. He should at least go to jail. You go and have a word with you local rape support centre and see what thye have to say about how hard it is for a full grown woman to get a rape conviction. The police aren't the best people for believing rape victims, so just imagine the struggle a 13 year old girl had to go through 30 years ago? As to all those film industry people who are telling us to leave him alone? Well they can go rot in hell, the bloody sickos.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

LEAVE ROMAN POLANSKI ALONE!!! LEAVE HIM ALONE!!! Uuuuuuugh.... Well, in all honesty, we should probably be more concerned with other things. Especially seeing as literally not a single person in here, nor most of the other people decided about this story, have done... a damn... thing... about it. E-mail the swiss government and FREAKING DEMAND that this guy gets put behind bars. Spam their mail with so many of these requests that there is a news story on it. No big feat, but you would think it is, given the chatter over this whole scene. So... you see this right here? It is called a petition, and it takes all of 5 minutes to make one. Take that poll, get all of these angry voices together, and shove it down these hollywood scumbags throat... with a plunger, so they get to experience the full blown thing. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2235105/roman_polanski_petition_created_by.html wrote:A Roman Polanski petition is floating around Hollywood right now. The Roman Polanski petition demands the immediate release of Roman Polanski, with the creators stating that they were astonished that Roman Polanski was arrested. This petition is in direct response to the news that Roman Polanski was arrested by Swiss police on September 26th when he arrived in Zurich, Switzerland. It's a bit shocking that so many people are willing to stand up and sign a petition to get Polanski released, and I must honestly say that these people are risking putting themselves in a negative light with many people in this country who do not support the crimes that Polanski committed.

The length of time elapsed since the offence was comited is completley irrelevant.
If Osama Bin Laden was found alive and well in 30 years time, would anyone suggest letting him of "because 9/11 was a while back".
He is a Paedophile and should serve the sentence he is given rather than running like the scum he is.

Well, I think I'll avoid this topic for now (mistake acknowledged), but you can't really compare having sex with a single underage girl to orchestrating an attack that killed 2,993 people.

I was just trying to illustrate that just because a long amount of time has elapsed since a crime has been comitted, it has no bearing on if an individual should be punished for it.
I was in no way trying to compare the two in terms of severity and appologise if anyone has been offended, but the principle is still the same.

@squilverine: According to the Legal System you're right, but I suppose there are many cases where people have attempted to atone for their crimes in all kinds of ways. Like (I don't know) feeling guilty for beating a homeless man to death, so they start and run a charity to help homeless people. Does that help in any way?

Meh, his guilt was very much in question. In fact, I put him several ranks above Polanski on the 'Morality Scale' even IF he did what he did. After all, say what you want about terrorists, they may be full of gak, but their heart is the right place. (sorta) Polanski and other child rapists are pretty low though...
Anyhow, I don't think you're right about Polanski getting out on parole.

Here's the statement I like on the Hollyweenies supporting one of their own:
Katie Buckland, executive director of the California Women's Law Center, said supporting Polanski's release "sends a message that the rich and powerful can get away with crimes that no one else can get away with."
