College students are enough fething idiots with drinking, it only gets worse as people get younger. I have yet to meet a single underage kid that has the palette to appreciate a fine cognac or killer IPA or an evil evil Stout.

I'm 17. I drink at most of my friend's parties (when their parents are fine with it). I hate wine and beer. I love Spririts (scotch, decent Vodka, Bourbon when it's mixed, tequila on occasion) and Liqueuers.

The thing is, it is very hard for me to get drunk.

First time I got drunk, it was after about half a litre of Jim Beam and three crappy little alcopops that my chick friends gave me. I woke up with no ill effects at all, after only 5 hours sleep.

Well,as you said, your 17, when I was 17 I could drink all night with my friends and never have any sort of hangover, now,at 39(sigh) a night out with the boys, more often than not, leads to a very bad day after.

I actually drink more often now that I'm out of school than I did when I was in. Probably because I'm not as deeply involved in sports as I once was. Also, I get to drink on the job. Never got to do that when I was writing papers every other day.

I'm 15 and like to drink when I can. If I had non games-workshop friends I would do it a lot more too I imagine! I tend to enjoy some vodka and coke, gin with orange or tonic and sometimes the much, much stronger, raspberry flavoured (home made!) gin. Yummy.

I'm not allowed at home to drink as much as I'd like because of health reasons (which I don't really see as a problem myself lol...). And I don't get many chances outside of home so I don't drink much although I do like to get drunk sometimes.

I went to a bear festival with my brother and a friend or two of his and ended up drunk (not overly) just from the shear quantity of sneaked sips from both his and his friend's glasses of real ale! (Trust me, real ale is SO much better than the alternative )

In answer to your question - I can't see any problem in under-age drinking as long as it does not cause any harm to others - basically my view with virtually everything.......

Just a heads up; Home distilled alcohol is dangerous. If it's done wrong, you will get methyl alcohol, not ethyl, which can (read: will) turn you blind.

That is why in most places wou need a licence to distill.

Nah don't worry. It's only a mixutre (put a tone of raspberries in a big jar of gin and watch it turn pink the a few weeks.)

Besides, my brother does home-brew very succesfully and that is not at all dangerous.

If you fall asleep, and are dead to the world at that time, yes. You're passed out drunk.

As for talking gibberish, never seen that happen to someone. But I have heard of it.

I'm free to drink as I like, my parents know that I hate the effect it has on people and that I hate the taste of alchohol in general. Even beyond 18 I will most likely abstain, there are several people in my class who (or at least claim) to regularly drink, these are also of course the degenerates and chavs.
There's the girl who was almost in the local paper if only her stepdad had dropped her off for the gang meeting in time.
And the one who described wine in general as lush, and had no idea what vintage was.
Oh, and the boy who broke his arm bmxing on top of the school.

My parent between them drink a bottle to two bottles of wine each night, if Dad's home. After a glass or two my dad starts going on about how eatin's cheatin' when it comes to going out.

Maybe my dislike of drinking spouts from several near misses of staggering drunkards on saturday nights.

In your base, ignoring your logic.

Personally I also dislike the taste of most beers(my parents will let me take a sip every once in awhile), but underage drinking is different from taking a sip of alcohol once or twice a year(also being catholic I can get my holy wine on in church). Underage drinking is bad, sure some people say "Its alright if parents are around" but I don't agree.

If a teen gets drunk, what are the chances they're going to listen to the parents? People who are far older drink and don't even listen to the authorities so how can a teen be expected to drink and still make smart decisions.

Yes, I am a teen and yes I am in college, yes I do take sips of alcohol, but I've never actually taken anything larger than a bottle cap full of alcoholic beverages at one time.

Hey when I drink I make smart decisions!

If the police are running towards you CHEESE IT!!

I listen to my mum, but not when Im drunk. But anyone who stupid enough to go home drunk is just stupid anyway.

I'd say Teens are better behaved drunk compared to some adults. You dont cause too much noise when camping and drinking cause you dont want the police too come.

Honestly. Try drinking a little more in friendly company at some point. I have some really great memories of getting drunk with some Swiss kids on my Italian exchange last year - such, such fun...

But we were'nt properly drunk - just at the stage where everything was really, really hilarious.

In my experience it is the minors (under 18 drinkers) that are the ones who get mostly into legal troubles around my parts.

I think adults at parties (at least the ones I frequented) look out for one another and make sure nobody overdoes it. I have a friend who was a nurse here in my town before she switched States and 98% of the alcohol poisoning victims that came into the hospital were between 13 and 16.

So while adults may be less "secretive" about partying I think it's because minors are "more secretive" out of fear of legal repercussion that more bad gak can happen. If someone blacks out from too much drinking they are one step away from respiratory and circulatory shutdown and that can be bad news if the other party goers are all or mostly minors and won't call the cops for obvious reasons so try to "bring" their friend around on their own.

My friend said it's a really ironic and sad when she used to get blacking out drunk at parties and then 10 years later have to try to help revive kids who had too much (or in some cases had to watch the EKG flatline because they were too late).

Not saying adults don't suffer the same fate but I'm willing to bet all over the world that teen AP is more common.

Brewing is fine, and legal in most places. Like I said, fementing is not bad, it's the distilling.

To make a drink stronger than about 15 - 17% alcohol, it needs to be distilled, which is the process of boiling the alcohol (It boils at a lower temp than water) and then condensing it to get some purer alcohol.

For example, Brandy is distilled wine and Rum is distilled sugarcane or molasses.

If you do it wrong (can't remember ho exactly) you produce the wrong alcohol, which can have some... adverse effects on the body.

Over here in the UK I think there are aspects of our culture is very slowed. Drinking is one of them. How we get out of it I have no idea. The idea of 24 hour licensing is a good one and I'd hoped us Brits would of settled down and make it work... but no we even manage to balls that up. Will still have to binge to excess!?!

As many of our European posters will point out, as kids, they are used to having alcohol at meals and such like. This it would appear gave them a good alcohol grounding. Over here, no such luck. I think you'd have to have a fundamental sea change in the British psyche for the problem of under age drinking to disappear. Lets be honest, we can't even sort out the problem of them hanging out on the streets and knife crime, what hope do we have with underage drinking?

Slightly OT. When I have to go in to Bournemouth town centre, on rare occasions, and see the drunks staggering around the streets & roads, throwing up and fighting. I think to myself, "you've paid £50+ for that privilege and you do it every week. What do you have to show for it?" Makes my hobby look cheap when looked at from that angle

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

Yeah, I love the adults who complain about being broke all the time and have nothing to show in their lives except bad livers because they spend 200/week on bars and liquor store booze.

Nothing wrong with socializing. Being a 40k nerd I actually enjoy it but how are you socializing by being so drunk you can hardly walk? My brothers friend starts her drinking usually right around 6pm and will keep on until bar close.

Seems like a sad way to live life, even if you are out meeting people.

I don't think there should be a difference between voting age and drinking age. If you're smart enough/dumb enough to vote, you're smart enough/dumb enough to drink when the other guy gets in.
