I don't think they have enough money or a good enough credit line to try.

Actually it was because of Health and Safety regulations at work. Lead is safe enough to handle and it kids eat the miniatures it is not GW's fault as it is not marketed at really small children (yet) and choking is a bigger problem anyway.

The problem with lead is during casting and modern factory safety rules meant that it was no longer economic to cast in lead, also lead is expensive.

Please remember that GWE minitures are pressed rather than cast, if you cut a miniature it has a 'crumbly' texture this is because the metal is heated to a softness rather than molten and punch cast under pressure. Metallurgists have a distain for modern white metal miniatures, they do not have a good lifespan as metalwork products go.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Dear Clients,

Due to the unexpected rise of tin GW will have to raise prices in the metal blisters starting 01-01-2009. New price bands will start at 20$ for a single figure blister. So start coughing up the money you own us since January, the Board wants the corporate jets for yesterday.

Sincerely.

GW

The problem with that is 99.999999287842% of the people in the world only care about themselves and/or their immediate family and are too stubborn or short sighted to waste their time thinking about how their life could effect someone 8000 miles away
For most people they're doing good just to take care of them selves and or their families. For the Western world the educated populations are doing their part in self-eradication by non breeding at a sustainable rate.

I would have to think it's prolly China, or a Chinese company. Tin would prolly be a component in next gen electrc car batteries or some such, the Chinese are working on ev tech pretty heavy these days, that way they can be way ahead of the curve when gas spikes to 10 dollars a gallon and you wont be able to give away internal combustion cars. Of course, when this happens, in the distant future (next year), American car manufacturers will still be telling us evs are "10 years away" (where they have been since 1970's) meanwhile cranking out monster suv's that get 10 mpg, and whining about needing more bailout money cause they are "too big to fail". Ahhhh, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

I think in this context 'plastic' is a term to mean that it's kind of bendy on a geographic scale.

And, in a backhanded way, poking fun at GW's pricing of their plastic figures.
