I think they look fine, once the units done its going to have a VERY unique and orky look which will be awsome imo... keep up the good work!

The one with the big shoulders should definitely have a Grot buddy hanging out in between to snipe humies (or maybe just taking a nap in a little hammock).

Bear in mind that I'm a very casual player, and any advice I give will reflect that tendency.

Always been a big fan of the old robotech/macross shows and their robots. Nice homage so far, and I think if anyone has a right to showers of rockets, 'tis us orks.

Here's two days worth of progress. I'm very close to completion.

Arms on. Gun hand re-positioned. Additional armor plates on the chest, shoulders. Based. Feet on. Knees on. Back nacel built (still need some decoration of some sort on that). Leg hydro's built.

His profile looks like ED209.

I've very close to done. Probably one more night. Need to clean up the feet some. Lots of rivets required. And battle damage. Oh, and decoration on the rear nacel.

"You are illegally parked on private property. You have 20 seconds to move your vehicle." ED-209 rocks. Great looking conversions. I've got a few AoBR Nobs that are just begging for something like this. Keep it up!

Yo!

Looking good!

Ive always liked meganobs, but like yourself, never bought them because of the price and the lack of variation. I have a 10man unit of tankbustas and I only bought 1 box and mixed and matched them with normal boys, they look way better than the normal ones now. I think the same can be said for these!

Theyre definately unique looking, but they should be good when all painted up and all.

I like the sound of mixing mechy bits with terminator bits! but Ive got a Crimson Fist army now and any Terminators will be going to that cuz theyre damn amazing!

I'll have to find sum other way of putting sum MEGA in my ork army!

(maybe converted gretchin?) lol

Full on, Full on!

Well, I finally finished #3. He's by far the most elaborately built. I added the grot in a little hatch at the top. Kinds looks like he's jammed in there. That makes me laugh. I added fins to the rear nacel, and little anime style missiles to the shoulders. As well as some rivets in various places:

And here's #3 with his buddies, for size comparison (pic fixed):

All done for now! I'll build more later I'm sure, but it's painting time for these guys. I'll post again when they're done.

i don't think varying sizes of orks is a problem, it adds to there character. the bigger they are the older and harder they are so they would all be different sizes, as long as your warboss is the biggest it doesn't matter! loving the plasticard work, i'v only just started using it need to mess with it some more

Well, I painted one of 'em. I'll be painting the other two are next.

PS: Had to update all the pic links on this post because all were broken. Stupid Picasaweb... Working now at least.

First of all, I love the scratch built Meganobs. Very well done!

Second of all, I'd love a few pointers, on how you got the weathering on the metal done so well, if you have time. The rusty, weathering looks great.

The rust look is pretty simple.
Black basecoat.
Drybrush boltgun.
Stipple in a few places with brown.
Detail orange on top of the brown spots.

Glad I could help. That's the reason I started building them myself. It's just not economical to buy 10+ of the blisters from GW. And the scratch build ones can turn out so awesome.

Though, I was at GW the other day and noticed that the official Meganobs are much, much smaller than mine. Next set of pix, I'll show a comparison of my boys and Thrakka.

this is really cool! I've always wanted meganobz but didn't like the metal models cuz don't like dealing with metal guys and the lack of variation.

you got me inspired to start trying to make a few

Hahaha, that guy with the huge shoudlers is hilarious! I can imagine the ork clan using shoulders as a symbol of power, and this guy let his design get a *little* out of control

Awesome work on all three of these guys man! The painting is fantastic and really brings the model together. I can't wait to how the others come out!!

Not yet. That'll be next, though it's a bit intimidating. My buddy Unistrut thinks I should go with the Roy Fokker Valkerie color scheme:

It'll be a challenge, that's for sure.

Hat is off. Is 3 the minimum unit size? Keep going! These guys are a lot of work, but considering their points-cost, every single one is worth his weight in gold. I wanted a unit of these - it took me 2 years to buy them all and over $100. That's too much $$$ for one unit. Your way is PURE W1N and I will follow in your footsteps should I ever decide I need another unit of Meganobs.

Yeah, I think three is the minimum unit size, but I'm not sure I'd field just three. With the L7 of most ork units, it'd be a shame to have those three high value units cut and run. Though, I suppose as a retinue for Thrakka, three might still be enough.

Thanks for the compliments!

I intend to build nine. We'll see how far I get...
