I'm really curious about how you're safe as far as copyright?
The scaly stuff and unique designs are safe enough but you've clearly reproduced Salamanders iconography in your chapter symbols, surely this would be an issue?

Don't get me wrong, you're a skillful sculptor and everything looks good, but I'm really not sure how you expect to reproduce copyrighted material and not have repercussions?

I am curious too, Also I always thought marketing them as a SM chapter shoulderpad, and calling the other pieces Rhino Doors was a huge no-no.

They have consulted legally and are comfortable with how they are trading. They are producing items which compliment rather than directly copy.

I would think they are about as likely to get a C&D as PigIron for producing heads you can use on ImpG...ie safe.

see the salamanders things keeps making me want to restart my Bloodragons marine army.... but i wa splanning on flogging it :(. ah well will jsut have to wait fo rhte snake iconography instead.

GW does not have ownership of the profile or shape of a dragon head, lizard head, etc. To think that is a mistake, that is like thinking Ford owns any profile or design that includes a horse. You will NOT see direct ocpies of any Icon that GW has legitimately created. By create I mean an original idea, not a rip-off of a Greek letter (the U from Ultramarines) or generic shapes like arrows or skulls. By the way GW Stole the chaos star from a writer by the name of Michael Moorcock, and we do have written permission from the creator to use the chaos star if we wish.

Space Marine is not copyright to Games Workshop, nor is Rhino Tank. They do have a trademark on Space Marine, but that is a different animal then a copyright. You are free to use trademarks as descriptors of products as long as you follow legal guidelines.

Amazing how much stuff they actually took from him for fantasy isn't it?

As for the icons that are generic looking forward to them and was thinking of suggesting since they would be combinable eg: curved stylised wings + liquid drop as an example mabe different shapes/sizes to fit scenery and tank and shoulder pads etc. Looking forward to those if the idea goes ahead.

I think you really wouldnt ever run into a situation you cant use your minis.

#1 we are so small I doubt anyone would recognize our stuff

#2 isnt the rule that your models have to be GW in origin, conversions and using bits from other models does not disqualify them

Sure GW doesn't have copyright over the generic concept of a dragon head. What they are sure to have copyright over is a specific looking head/image produced by their in house artist.
I guess the question is whether or not what you've produced is recognizably the same as what they've come up with.(which is the way it appears to me)

I agree, GW has appropriated all sorts of things, that's beside the point in this discussion.

Chapterhouse, I can understand if you're a bit defensive about those who ask regarding copyright, but look at it this way, many of us do it out of concern for what may happen to you and your products.

I'd suggest you create some cool generic/new and unique chapter concepts to run with, face it, there are plenty of untapped ideas out there. Keep in mind, 90% of the stuff I can see here is fine, it's the salamander chapter symbol that leaped out as something that might cause you some grief.

*sigh* By law its GW's job to enforce their IP. If they could do anything they would have done it already. They're looking for reasons to stop Chapterhouse, but they've yet to find one. So if a guy whose job it is to stare at Chapterhouse to look for anything wrong doesn't see anything wrong why do you think you can?

Going OT for a quick sec here: Chapterhouse may want to create a page on their site explaining briefly the non-infringing nature of their work, indicate they have an attorney and are comfortable with their legal position, and then a link to that in their Dakka signature pointing to it (perhaps naming the link "Our products are legal to sell!"). I'm sure it won't completely eliminate the threadjacking of their product announcements, but it would make doing so gauche.

For those of you who just cant let the IP thing go think of it this way.....Order lots of crap before the poop hits the fan. Not that it will but hopefully that will stave off your paranoia hehe. I really am happy with what these guys are doing and Nick I am very impressed with the work. I am trying hard to figure out how to fit a bunch of the braziers into my army...maybe on my drop pods hehehe..

I think from now on, every Chapterhouse post should have a link to every GW legal question ever asked so people will shut the hell up already and let em just keep making cool stuff.

Why is it every time Chapterhouse put up stuff, we have this happen?

It doesn't happen with the maxmini or reaper or any other alternate minis.

OT I love the looks of this stuff and hope to see some on the table.
