I feel your pain.

Personally, I run my GH is Rhinos. As such I take a full 10 men compliment w/ either 2 MG or 2 PG. I only give MOTW on my GHs for special close combat weapons. If I had the points, I would go with a PW next, but I rarely do. I use to put plasma pistols on GH back in 4rth when they could fire twice at 12" and only cost 10-12 points. In 5th, they are half as effective and half again the points. Not a deal IMO. I don't think I would ever add PP to BC due to them being even less effective with thier BS 3.

My primary Grey Hunter Pack is loaded out like this. Partly because it changes little from the old codex and partly because I love the3 figures, some of them from the original plastic set.

Ragnar’s Grey Hunters
•1x GH [Wolf Standard, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, Power Fist]
•1x GH [Bolt Gun, Plasma Pistol, CCW, Mark of the Wulfen ]
•2x GH [Flamer, Bolt Pistol, CCW]
•6x GH [Bolt Gun, Bolt Pistol, CCW]

I give them a Wolf Guard Pack Leader with Power Fist and Plasma Pistol.
I have them led by Ragnar with two Wolves.
I can shove all of that into a Land Raider Crusader

On the opening Assault I can get anywhere from 44-77 Attacks of which 5-9 are with a Power Fist and 4-10 are rending.
If I pop the Wolf Standard I goes to 45-77 of which 5-9 are with a Power Fist and 5-10 are rending.
Ragnar’s “+1d3” becomes “+1d3” Re-Roll that one giving you a better chance of 2+ extra Attacks.
The MotW “2-7” practically “3-7”
The Power Fists Get 5-9 attacks that will Ignore Saves a Instant Kill T3 Characters, yes the other guy will go 1st, but what are the odds in a normal assault those two models will be dead.

His is the Grey Hunter Synergy.

Of my two Blood Claw Packs I have it loaded up like this.

Blood Claws
•1x Blood Claw Sergeant [Bolt Pistol, Power Fist]
•2x Blood Claws [Flamer, CCW]
•1x Blood Claw [Plasma Pistol, CCW]
•10x Blood Claws [Bolt Pistol, CCW]
•1x Blood Claw [Bolt Pistol, CCW, Mark of the Wolfen]
I give them a Wolf Guard Pack Leader with Power Fist and Plasma Pistol.
I also have them lead by Wolf Priest

On the opening Assault I can get 63 Attacks, of which 6 with Power Fist.
Half the attacks miss that’s 31 hits 3 are PF
The Wolf Priest Should give you Re-Rolls on everything if you have chose his Oath of War correctly.
•Re-Roll the 32 missed Attacks, half of those miss that’s 16 hits, 2 are PF [Rounded up for the WGPL]
•So 47 hits, 5 are PF, that should be 4-5 really dead things.

All of this things are based on fighting WS4, if you are fighting WS all of the hit numbers go up.

That's why I take both. For 30 points, its a freaking steal.

It's not a steal, exactly. It's a pretty appropriately costed power. It's more offense for the right amount of points. There's no substitute for more bodies, but this power is cheap enough that it's certainly not a bad idea to take it on all GH squads.

Basically you're getting a model that makes 4.5A with Rending vs 2 models that make 4A. Or, on the charge, 5.5A Rending, vs 6A. So you basically break even in numbers of attacks, lose predictability, and get Rending. It amounts to losing a wound, but getting free Rending.

That said, it's a good way to put more "mass" into a unit if you need to. For example, I'm looking at taking some min sized (5 man) GH squads in Razorbacks with WG leader. These units are a bit underpowered, but you can pack 15 more useful points in with MotW. This becomes a very good option as it's more punch that doesn't take up an extra transport seat (although you have to feel for the guys locked up in a transport with a drooling werewolf).

That just wants me to make a Razorback or Rhino with one sticking his head out.

For my Skyclaws i give the MotW the Melta-Gun that couteracts the loss of the Attack gave one of the others a Power Axe. The WGBL has the Melta Bombs and Wolf Claws, but i am not sure how good that is going to work with only to AT Wapons.

Okay, I feel like we answered the orginal question, so I don't mind derailing the thread too much. This is one I've gone back and forth on: 2 Wolf Claws or Frostblade and bolt pistol (or storm bolter if its a terminator)? What I'm thinking right now, to accompany my Wolf Lord (Bran Redmaw) in Drop Pod, is three terminator WG with Wolf Claws and three power armour WG with Frost Blade and bolt pistol. I'm considering giving the terminator wolf guard frost blades though, for that extra strength. I'm just torn between the two options really. Redmaw will have MotW, which is more for fun than anything.

Though, to be honest, the terminators may just end up wielding TH, so this may be a moot question really.

Personally I would go with
3xTerminators with power fists (x2 +1chain fist)
2xWG with frost blades
1xWG bob (the guy you wound first ^_^)

Don't get me wrong i like thunder hammers its just facing these guy why aren't they already dead?

@ I4, your power weapons (along with a flamer template pre-charge) which are equipped on the 3A (on charge) grey hunter, 4A (on charge) Wolfguard and also your MotW 1D6+2A rending grey hunter will thin out the enemies ranks conciderably.

This means fewer models swinging (if their not @ I4) or it simply allows you to retain all your swingy potential.

It is also alot cheaper & a good place to put a flamer in a grey hunter squad.

If you are going to insist on putting a Wolfguard w/ Greyhunters knock it down to 5 models take the MOTW / Banner and a Plasma gun or Melta then go with a Razorback

5 Greyhunters w/
MOW
Banner
Power Weapon
Meltagun

w/
Wolfguard w/ Powerfist

w/ Razorback

203

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.
