I love Game stop. The people there know way more about any store i have ever been to. Most of the small shops i go to dont know crud and just get into it cause its profitable. Besides you get cool stuff from them when you preorder there games. And i never feel like i am being ripped off.

Your experience is 180 degrees from 90 percent of the people I talk to. Whenever I've been to one they don't know much of anything.

In all of the gamestops that i have been to, the staff generally only REALLY know one system, and at any given time, theres only 2 staff members in the stores that used to be near me, and so chances were that they both knew the same system and could only tell you about other systems "from what I've heard from other people"

Perhaps you should read the posts next time before commenting. Being profitable hasn't been a criticism.

I like buying games instead of just renting them and I go to Gamestop because
a) it's the nearest place to get 2nd hand games
b) they have a lot of interesting special offers. I bought a lot of games this summer because I couldn't refuse any of them
c) sure, Gamespot is a faceless cooperation, but so are the 4 other stores which sell videogames in the town center where I live. One of them is too expensive and another one stopped selling 18+ games after the last school shooting.
d) I hang around there a lot since the tabletop/rpg store closed down in spring.

The problem is the summer hole. There are almost no good games coming out between June and August so it's hard to measure time during these months.

They haven't giving me a discount yet, but it's nice to shop in a store where people know you.

And I have to say, while I do order some games online from time to time, I prefer to buy copies in a store. My family also has their own shop in the city, so I prefer to buy stuff in a shop.

That really isn't a complaint about a rise in stock prices or profitability, or liquidity or solvency for that matter.

It is a complaint about the disparity between how much credit they give and how much they sell for. Five dollars less than new for a used title is not a good savings in the slightest. If they can get that than more power to them, but they aren't getting it from me or from other people. Making that kind of decision is capitalism in action, not a criticism of it.

In your base, ignoring your logic.

I've been to a gamestop recently and saw a 39.99 price tag for the collector's edition of Fallout 3. I asked the guy about it and he said no, that's not the right price and he then told me it was 59.99. I asked him why it was still so expensive and he then told me that it contained a bobble head(correct), a lunchbox(correct), the game(correct), and all of the DLC for Fallout 3(hold your horses there, that's not right).
I didn't need my 2 years experience in retail to tell that the guy was either lying or didn't know squat(I read the box and no mention of DLC anywhere). I then asked him if he meant the game of the year edition and he said "No, this one has it too.".

Besides this, I probably do know more about the games than a lot of gamestop employees. It's just that most other retailers cater to families and they don't like it when we recommend Gorey McKillanRape to people shopping for their kids who are under 17years of age.

I knew GS employees that would do that. I know one that when a kid brought in a bag with a near mint NES2 (the rare top-loader) and Dragon Quest 1&3, Final Fantasy 1&2, and a few other NES games said they'd give him 20 bucks for it, took the money from his pocket and kept it for himself.

Ah, so it's a complaint about the difference between what they buy a product for and what they sell it for....ah nothing about profit at all then...I see the issue here now.

Well I have never had a bad experience there. I remember one time I had a game that was damaged and returned. But I didn’t have a receipt. But i used a debit card. So they took an hour or so to find the transaction from a month ago so I can return it and get a new one. But here is the thing they didn’t have a copy. So they called another one got it taken off the shelves for me and I went there and got it.

I know you are using sarcasm to obscure your ignorance but I will try to explain it again.

Where I choose to spend my money, and what I think is a good deal or not, has nothing to do with whether or not Gamestop makes a profit. It does, however, have everything to do with whether I choose to give a company my business. I don't like their business model and find them to be overpriced and often the quality of their used titles to be questionable. I have also not always had the best shopping experience with them either.

So let me ask you how many establishments do you spend your money at that you don't like? Do you shop places you don't care for just because if you didn't it might be seen as hurting their 'profits'? The way you are presenting yourself is as someone who knows the word 'economics' and 'profit' but has little to no understanding of them.

Ive never really had a problem with the gamestop near my either. The only slightly annoying thing is they seem to change the entire staff every few months, so it makes learning the crew there annoying. But Ive had them match prices and the whole 9 yards. Yea they offer next to nothing for trade ins, but I sell my old games anyways.
Infact one time, my wife bought me a guitar hero game/guitar for my bday. Turns out I really hated guitar hero, and so I told them the problem, and the store manager actually let me trade it all in for store credit for what she paid. Tell me THAT wasnt a cool thing to do to someone.

I work at gamestop. EB Games and Gamestop are the exact same thing for anyone who doesnt already know. I do agree that you dont get hardly anything for trading games in. As far as the price matching goes, i wish people would understand the difference between corporate business and small business. No matter what you say and do, we as employees and store managers cannot price match. Its obviously not a bad business decision considering EB games or Gamestop has NEVER price matched and we still bring in a TON of business. I wish people would stop blaming their local gamestop stores for not making these kinds of decisions. The truth is, WE CANT. We as employees have NO power what so ever to change prices or give you more for your trades or anything. We cant do any of it so please understand that. With that said, i liked EB games MUCH more than gamestop before they "merged". Now their the same and it sucks. Happy gaming.

When I went in to Gamestop to pick up a copy of WoWark Portal the guy tried to get me to buy a Strategy Guide. I told him no thanks, with the ever changing nature of MMOs it's probably already got outdated info in it, and the rest would change before long so I used a free internet site that had all the info I would need and updated to any changes. His reply was that I would have have to keep alt-tabbing out of the game to look at the site, and it would be far more convenient to have the open book there for the maps. I informed him I actually have two monitors, and keep maps open on the side one while games run in the main one. His come back was that I could have something else open in that side screen, and the book on the other side. At that point I stopped talking to him since it was obvious my disinterest in the guide was not being registered.

I used to manage a FLVGS so I understand why they price the way they do, I just know it is a bad deal for me. If people want to toss their money and their items away more power to them. PT Barnum still applies today.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;

I love Gamestop, it's cheaper than Blockbuster to rent games at. With their no-questions-asked return policy on used games, you can "buy" the game, hold onto it for 5 or 6 days, then return it, saying you didn't like it, then try out another. Go over that 7 day mark though, and the "late fee" means the game is now yours.

If you really liked that first game, "buy" it again later down the road and finish it.

You can add one more thing to MY list why I LIKE gamestop. German stores recentlychanged their panic induced policies and now I can pre-ordern games from the UK in case the German version gets toned down.
