I'm guessing Gulag. Plus there's that whole thing with the Zodiac going bottoms up.

For some points in this, I wish I could have been American to appreciate how fun it must be for you guys to sit behind that minigun in the Chopper, going down the Mall and hosing down Russians. I was practically screaming "GET SOME! GET SOME BABBYY!" through the whole thing.

Oh well.

No Russian was a lowpoint -- not from Gaming or Emotional terms (I was fine, I just didn't really participate. It was a very disturbing level, however.), but it was clear that IW simply wanted another hook for their Single Player, just marketing. Not necessary savoury, most definately in bad taste, but it got people thinking about and buying their game. After this and the Favela Missions (CURSES), the single player's actually quite fantastic, in my opinion. Still a semblance that the story was written by a seven-year-old, but it's fun and bangy and pretty to look at.

Spoiler:
A highpoint was when you first get Price back from the Gulag, and he lifts you up. He's like "Soap? Soap is that you?" and then a Navy SEAL runs by and says "Who the feth is Soap?"

Good game.

Well see, my issue with calling it a "marketing" ploy...

They didn't stir up the pot about it. They didn't even mention it, other than a level that some might call controversial.

It was when the game released in Europe that people got up in arms about "No Russian". Despite the clear warnings, the option to skip it, etc.

They dropped a single f-bomb in the game, so baby steps I guess. Maybe they're learning from the crappy expletive laden World at War.

Supporting MW2 producers: In the end of the mission you get shot and left for dead, the exact action that makes it anti-terrorist. Trying to associate getting shot with being a terrorist.

Against MW2 producers: I lost all my ammo by the time I got to the police/S.W.A.T part. I guess it was my online sort of reaction "Shoot anything that moves."

My reaction to Makarov shooting everyone down was hesitant, I did sort of expect it due to a preview I watched. I started to follow throughout the rest of the mission. I actually had to restart the mission twice for ("Friendly Fire.")

If you walk a mile in another mans shoes you will be a mile away from him and you will have his shoes.

I doubt it since it was two completely different companies. Treyarch used the CoD4 engine to make a pretty WWII game but other than that Infinity Ward wasn't involved at all.

I liked the ice climbing part, that was cool. The stealth? I've always loved steal missions like that. It's the races I was annoyed by. Both the snow mobile and the boat races were unappreciated by me.

I was thinking to myself 'Ghost has gotta survive, he must be wearing a fireproof suit or some gak like that!'

Why, man?

Actually, I think that since Soap/Price graduated to 141...
it's entirely likely that "Ghost" was Gaz's callsign.

IW didn't put that scene in for hype. They would have dropped hints about it, made people curious about it, so that when the news broke it would have been much larger than it actually was.

Companies who want PR generally set up crap like this for a reveal.

I found No Russian much less disturbing than the inclusion of Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld quotations...

Ghost is not Gaz, voice actor says so, the IW written comics say so. Ghost is some guy from the SAS who got mutilated by a crime boss or something. There will be DLC where you play as Ghost.

Was i shocked? No
spent far too long digging up info on the game before it was released, knew most of what was comming

allthough, getting to mow down yanks in the AGY wasnt too bad

BM: Who are the voices for gaz and ghost?
I know why people say they are the same, simply because the voices are pretty close.

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.

Well that's dumb. It would have been far, far more interesting to have Gaz becoming Ghost, imo.

Gaz was hardly the silent and concealed type

Mainly because it IS the same voice actor.

York/London(for weekends) oh for the glory of the british rail industry

, this happens everytime a new game is realised that can better show the 'real' world and they always use the same phases:
"in the good old days...."
"in our society now..."
and for war games
"in our heated global climate"

we live better, safer (no matter what the news says) lives than in the past, the negative influences on a child ( the campaigners always forget that there is a 18 cert. on it and if a kid is playing it its the parents fault) were far greater in the past (opium dens, the acceptance that racism is fine, prostitues walking the streets, easy access to alcohol, even at 14 boys ran of to fight in world war 1 and 2) and the whole thing about it being a heated time, the world has been at war since ancient times and still is, a game has no effect on the real world. the people who complain about this are the same people who complain when you cut your lawn on a sunday.

as for the game its a good way to have fun with friends, you don't think about killing people, its just hand-eye coordination and tactical thinking, its good for you

Spoiler:
Gaz gets shot in da head. Most people don't get up after that, and they especially don't get up and go back to playing commando.

I loved the sniper/stealth SpecOps mission in the snow. One mistake and you're buggered.
