I'm fine when I lose, but I'm elated when I win.

I know one person with whom I frequently play who gets pretty pissed whn he loses. I've been known to face physical harm before when I win. WHich is why I'm okay when I lose.

Congratulations, your dismissive and conclusory commentary has provided nothing to this discussion or the wider community on whose behalf you arrogantly presume to speak nor does it engage in any meaningful way the remark it lamely targets. But you did manage to gain experience points toward your next level of internet tough guy.

Who the hell is that? I hope they aren't bigger than me, so when I beat them in December I can just laugh as they attempt to kill me

It all depends on the game, if it's a good slug fest with casualties on both sides, and made for an interesting experience I'm happy no matter the out come. I do sometimes get a little touchy when I lose to someone who I feel did not play in the spirit of the game, ie:gloated, cheated, or was generaly irratating to play with.

At my store there's usually gloating all around by any winner, all in good fun. The only times I can remember people taking a loss hard (other than one particular TFG who never liked to lose) is in tournaments, with two guys being known to leave before the last round of a tournament when they lost the first two, and another where someone was getting rather teary as he was suffering a final round beat down.

Myself, I generally don't mind losing, so long as I feel there was Something I could have done about it. I get bummed if right from the start I don't know what I could do to have a chance at taking my opponent. Otherwise I tend to play freaky armies and lists so losing isn't uncommon for me, though I do average a winning record.

All in all it's a game, and you have to take it all in stride. You win some, you lose some.

O H I am in the Webway...

I don't mind if I've lost to another player because he is better than me or because I made a dumb mistake, but if I lose to the annoying kid who gloats the whole way through and when daddy gets there shouts "DAD I GOT A TURKEY!" (the reference to bowling or something that he's gotten 3 wins or something? I really don't know/care), I'm not too happy but won't throw a fit or anything, just won't be having fun .

That's probably the reason I'm building another army besides my deathwing because people want to play me at 1000 points and that is extremely hard to do with deathwing and still stay in the "I can kill you" range.

When I'm winning vs. a good opponent I'm normally giddy, but not gloating etc., but if I'm beating someone much worse than me I normally try and help them out and I'm pretty nonchalant.

I'm actually pretty good at taking the loss at times. The only thing that pisses me off is usually bad dice rolls. Seriously when you have a unit thats meant to do one thing and they cannot do it because of the dice rolls, or the saves that matter, that pisses me off. Other then that I just enjoy playing, but there are people I dislike facing because they are snooty buttholes.

I don't have a tactical bone in my body, so I lose a lot, I let a lot stuff they forget, slide for my opponents as most of my games are friendly games. I like tinkering with lists and modeling/painting aspect of the hobby but playing I'm starting to like less and less. It is weird that when you play some friends sometimes they seem ruder with you than if they were playing a complete stranger. I'd hate to quit though and give up/sell some 4 whole painted armies I spent so much time on. Curse you GW. I want to quit spending but they keep pulling me back in. (Godfather? lol).

I can kind of understand why people are ruder with friends than they are with strangers. With friends, rudeness can easily be laughed off, because you know you'll see that person again in the near future. With strangers, you want to have a good experience the first time, because hey - they may well become friends, and since they already play 40k, future opponents to have fun with/learn from.

No its not you.

And this person only gets mad if they lose to me.

I can still count the number of games I've played with my fingers, so losing isn;t a big deal really. I've drawn one or two games, and that makes me pretty happy.

I mostly focus on the little accomplishments. I killed my first Land Raider a game or two back, and I was pretty enthusiastic about it. Mostly pleased with my luck. (Got a direct hit with an orbital bombardment.)

When I'm losing really bad, I accept it fairly well. I make little semi-sarcastic comments about how bad I am, and internally blame the dice. All in all, I view every game as a learning experience.

I got into this hobby more as something to do, and I get more out of watching beautifully painted miniatures involved in an epic battle than I do out of winning at all costs.

A firm handshake and a "good game, man" are really all I need to walk away from the table content.

I win? I'm glad that my list came through and that I was able to get in a good game.

I lose? I congratulate my opponent on his smashing me and try to learn from it.

All in all, I play to hang out. Casual gamer through and through (Though not one of those self-righteous ones, mind you)

Also, The most important rule of wargaming: Give your opponent an firm handshake and a "Good game". Even if you get smashed.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.
