Its not terribly surprising really. I know you aren't a nihilist, based on what you have posted and some of the opinions you have stated. Besides I don't know anyone who is stupid enough to actually believe that nihilism is a valid philosophy. While I am definitely beholden to some elements of existentialism, I disagree with some of its points. That aside, I still think Sartre was a major douche bag, and I have never really cared for much of his work...

Yeah, I remember that scene where Frodo used Gandalf's staff to sling himself onto Sam's penis. Literary master stroke.
Huh? I'm completely dumbfounded. Granted, It was pretty obvious that Merry and Pippin were deep in the closet, I'm pretty sure there was no pedo action in Lord of the Rings. Flabbergasted, really.

So, I figured here's the best place to put this that just came up on the Black Library twitter feed...
Three Black Library novels have been submitted for the David Gemmell Fantasy Award - http://gemmellaward.com/
- Empire, by Graham McNeill; Shamanslayer by Nathan Long; and Reiksguard by Richard Williams (in the Morningstar category). Voting on the longlist doesn't start until the 26th December!
Discuss.

I can agree with that...although growing up in suburbia myself, I think that most of my friends are too ignorant to really understand what the hell you are talking about. The limit of their philosophical understanding is based on I Heart Huckabees, which almost made me gag. I really thought it was one of the most pointless and awful movies ever.

Granted, it did have a lot of sex. I believe it was a metaphor for the dead and their desperation to grasp any life-affirmation possible, no matter how futile. I miss that sort of stuff in most fantasy novels, which are pg-13 at most.

That's not why I read them though!

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

David Gemmell is absolutely fantastic. I swear i was more upset when that bloke died than when dog got put down.
Robin Hobb? Meh.. thing is, i liked the assasins books, but they werent fantastic.
Too much "emotion" for bad ass fantasy i think. I like to see men being men and chopping everyone up. I thought Fitz was just too much of a pansy. Oh Burrich was kinda cool though..
And the whole "gay" thing with the fool.. meh...

What books have you read by her? She only wrote four, We The Living, Anthem, The Fountainhead, and Atlas Shrugged. The rest were essays, unless you count her screenplay Night of January 16th. All of her books were "overly idealized" (except We The Living).

Lord Loss, i have read all of Robin Hobbs books, when i said "you can tell she is a woman anyway!"
I was refering to Robin Hobb!
IE- The whole "gay" thing with The Fool. Meaning she makes the books very girly and emotional.
As i said, i do like her books, but she is a feminine writer, im a very ultra violent, red meat man when it comes to fantasy books!
