heh, I started smoking weed this decade, so it's all a haze of parties, concerts (performing and attending), band rehearsals, jamsessions, roleplaying games, internet archive frenzy and buying lots and lots of retro rock and punk records and guitar equipment rather than GW stuff...

oh, a few things come to mind:
1- the rock revival of 00-05
2- The Total War pc games
3- 6th edition wfb (my last gw purchase)
4- Regina Spektor
5- Wiki- and Uncyclopedia
6- professional webcomics

--The whole concept of government granted and government regulated 'permits' and the accompanying government mandate for government approved firearms 'training' prior to being blessed by government with the privilege to carry arms in a government approved and regulated manner, flies directly in the face of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

2) Having kids.
3) Getting in to 40K in 2000, quitting for almost 10 years, then getting back into it at the end of the decade.

OH FOR 's SAKE GET OVER IT.

Does the week start on Sunday? Does it start on Monday? For some it is the former, for others the latter. A decade is 10 years. Even if we wanted to debate when the 'new' decade started it changes nothing from the fact that 2000 to 2009 is 10 years. But since a few luddites want to get into it we can a bit.

–noun
1. a period of ten years: the three decades from 1776 to 1806.
2. a period of ten years beginning with a year whose last digit is zero: the decade of the 1980s.
3. a group, set, or series of ten.

Wikipedia:

A decade is a period of ten years. The word is derived (via French) from the Late Latin decadem, accusative of decas, from Greek decas, from deca. The other words for spans of years also come from Latin: lustrum (5 years), century (100 years), millennium (1000 years). The term usually refers to a period of ten years starting with 0 and ending in 9. For example, "the 1950s" refers to 1950 through to 1959 (inclusive). In English, "decade" can also be used to specify any period of ten years. For example, "During his last decade, Mozart explored chromatic harmony to a degree rare at the time".

Damndest thing, an academic websites library lists the decades like this. Couldn't finad any Dictionaries or Encyclopedias that list the other way. Nor could I find any reputable Academic source either. Unless we are talking mathematicians. That is usually where this comes from because in math 'zero' means nothing so you have to start at 1. The trick is that in counting years 2000 isn't nothing, it is something. You didn't not exist. To put it another way, which was a part of the 1960's? 1960 or 1970? Historians would say 1960.

The real answer of course is that in the end there is no real answer. There is no universally agreed upon standard so stop presenting your side as absolutely right and a fact. The line had to be drawn somewhere and since I started this thread I decided for the purposes of this thread we would use the Historical scale. If you don't like it wait till next year and start your own thread or get over it and contribute.

I think this decade will be most remembered for the attacks in New York, London, and Mumbai more than anything else though (at least in the western world). The bad stuff always sticks in the craw :(

Actually, whilst you cannot use Wiki itself as a source, most decent articles on it list further reading and sources, making it an ideal starting point. Kind of like reading someone elses paper, finding their sources, and improving upon it.
