If they are not jump infantry with jet packs even though it looks like they do, then they move 12" inches because of jump infantry, run d6, then when they utilize there rock it packs they get 6 inches in assault phase.

Yes or no I dont know

Nowhere in their rules does it state they are equiped with jet packs . Their Rokkit packs count as Jump packs allowing them a 12" move. However when you move 12" with them you roll a D6 and add that to the 12", giving a resultant move of between 13" and 18", if the D6 result is a 1 you remove a stormboy, but still add the 1". You may then run D6" or may shoot/not shoot and assault 6".

Think its second sentence of rockit pack rules. "Rokkit packs count as jump packs" I dont know what that means really. I am not saying one way or the other. I mean could it be a 4th edition type rule as jump packs in 4th ed. are now jet packs in 5th ed. I dont know. I just wanted to point it out as I haven't understood movement either.

It means that they are Jump Packs.

Jetpacks are a subcategory of Jump Pack, and have a couple of additional rules. Only those models whose rules say that they have Jetpacks have Jetpacks. All other Jump Infantry has regular Jump Packs.

The Stormboyz entry says they have Jump Packs. It doesn't say they have Jetpacks.

I thought there were more jet pack guys in warhammer, but know i went and check them all and they are all jump packs. Thats amazing for tau. Although its very good for all the other guys, because they are better at assaults than tau. Also, having a 12" move is fantastic.

But being able to always move your 6" move in the assault phase meant you could, in 4th, JSJ and be safe from return fire. This is a lot harder in 5th but is still viable.

The new cover rules make it a bit more difficult, yes. What you really need is a nice solid building or high wall to jump behind. It gets a lot of comments about running away, but it's still very useful.
