IMO, Havoc Launchers aren't worth going out of your way to put on anything. Like Nurglitch said, after you've done everything else, and have the points left over, and there is absolutely no better option anywhere else, why not take one? But, as Night Lords said, they are unlikely do really get you much more than what you already have.

Back to the orginal question, yes they work best in pairs, or more if want only Vindi's. Always take Daemonic Possesion on them, no matter what, because it gets you all of the upsides and the downsides don't really hurt you at all. BS4 being knocked down to BS3 means that the only thing that happens is the tempalte may scatter an extra inch. No real biggy there. As for Lash, I really don't take lash, as I have a Death Guard list and really don't like Lash to be honest. It's nice, but in my opinion, there are better options to take. Needless to say, Vindicators only being worth it in a Lash list is not really a legit thing to say. Whoever said that arguably needs to actually learn what Lash does because saying that doesn't really make any sense.

Let the galaxy burn.

unless your list is all about vindicators so that you have a bunch of chnaces for the template weapon, i suggest that you get a defiler if you wanna template...while not as strong, the battle cannon shoots much further and seems to do just as much for me once the games gets under way

Armies:
Children of Tzeentch (1850 points) W:11/L:6/D:5
Kabal of the Twisted Storm (750 points) W:4/L:1/D:1

The last one is generally reserved for a defiler.

I don't take Vindi's because it's just a Spiky Smurf Vindi...not something 'unique' to chaos.

Deamon possession makes a vindi a very unique chaos unit.

If a chaos army already has 3 or 4 rhinos then 1 or 2 possessed vindicators have a good synergy with the rhinos.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

It's still a Vindi.
Beside that point, any of the main Hvy supports work for a mech list.

Defiler, Vindi, Oblits all do well with a mech backbone.
A vindi has the biggest punch but least flexibility.
The defiler has more flexibility but is alot more visible.
The oblits are prob. right in the middle. between effective punch and flexibility.

Vindi's match a play style that is aggressive with the whole list and stays together. If you manage the side armors and keep cover up, they are good to go with just DP as an upgrade.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
