Sounds good, Migsula did a great conversion like Altair for his Legion army, will see if I can dig up a pic. IIRC it used a wood elf hooded head and flagellant body and arms with the robes tidied up.

Thanks for that, I did check out Migsula's model and whilst it's very evocative, it's perhaps a little too distant from Altair for what I want. It's an interesting starting point (though I might end up commissioning someone to scratch-sculpt an Altair...)

In the meantime, I've taken these pictures of the Ezio I got with my special AC2 - I didn't know if the details might help/give inspiration:

Hope it helps a bit - I figure it provides some details you can't see in the game.

Dante...

I like the wizard head with the hair... maybe sling the sword on his back and give him a pair of dueling pistols and a nice trailing long jacket.

Oh and Dante in the Mordheim rulebook their's a picture of the kind of mask you were first talking about. i think it was page 34, it's where the rules for armour start I think.

Thanks guys!

@Molotov - Thanks for the pics, I have a similar figure from the Play.com Black Edition (the cloak and hood are black instead of white) have been keeping him close at hand for reference. Thanks for the effort and thought though, I'm sure I'll check back to them for reference.

@ironKing - Pistols and a coat don't fit with what I'm going for on this one. One of the group will have pistols though. One at a time though!

@ Bloodthirster - Thanks for the heads up mate, will take a look!

Cheers,

Dante

Awwww I was hoping for some new pics . That's the problem of folllowing someones blog you can never stop waiting in anticipation for the next installment. i persume you didn't get the day because of snow like i did. It gave me time to do the concept of the newest Dreg I just posted. I suppose I can only wait until some new pics drift onto this page. (Orders a pizza, opens a can of Coke, puts on a movie and waits for fun to begin) i'll be right here!

Ah, I wasn't sure. My friend has the Altair, which I'll definitely be using soon! Nice to have the black Ezio, though - he does look better after the wetland ebony/altair armour upgrades!

Ok, so not too much has been done this week but I did make some changes tonight:

As you can see, the torso has been changed to something more fitting for what I'm after. The previous torso just looked too rough and ready, a bit too pirate and not enough sophisticated dueling noble.

I've also thinned down the skeleton sword to make it look a bit more fitting for a duelist.

I'll post the inspiration sheet I have pulled together for this project and put up on my noticeboard in my modelling room. Lately I've taken to doing one of these for each project as it helps to have plenty of reference images in front of you while you work for quick checks.

Also, I've come to an arrangement with a friend to have the head below cast so that I can make a few variations of masks and faces etc:

Hopefully get some work done on the belt and boots tomorrow. Will keep you posted.

Cheers,

Dante

Dante!

Did you consider a look at these, I know they are for 40k but there's potential in them for some reworking, especially with a trade of helm for hair?

http://www.maxmini.eu/store/index.php?main_page=popup_image&pID=54

Or possibly goblin heads, filing off the back and lower half until you are left with the nose and upper face as a mask, once painted suitable garish colours would be cool.

No go for both the maximini or the goblin heads. Both are far too chaotic and over the top for what I'm going for.

Masks more like these are the aim:

Elegant and refined.

Also, as always, I like to use GW or self sculpted stuff only so things like the maximini stuff are out.

Ah, I was thinking along masquerade mask style with the long noses and exaggerated features.

I am looking at the gladiator mask, thinking immediately of Dante from the blood angels and also wondering what we might see in their conversion kits later this year.

how about the "man in the iron mask" style mask?

isn't there one like that on the flaggelant sprue?

I've got an old "Johann The Knife" model from Mordheim - he's metal, but he's really a fantastic sculpt! Carneval masque, short cloak and stiletto daggers. But you probably got him already, right?

Thanks for the comments guys.

Nope, really not the style I'm going for. He's wearing his mask through choice to cover hideous wounds, not because someone has encased him in it. I've already done one like that before a couple of years back:

Oddly enough I don't but I was planning to buy him a few months back. He's on my list!

One option will be Carnivale style mask, the features wont be overly exaggerated though. Honestly I don't like the maximini heads at all. All the faces look so cartoony and stupid, not scary.

The new BA stuff should produce a lot of excellent parts for both 40k and fantasy if they really do the truly romantic/gothic/tragic style of the BA's justice.

Just a quick post to let you all know that I have added a post on my personal blog with a little more information and some images of my inspiration sheet I have created for this project.

"What's an inspiration sheet?"

They are A4 pages I create full of images that act as an inspirational resource throughout a project. These can be images of real world equivalents of what I'm attempting to create, designs, styles and items, basically any shapes, poses or elements which may find their way into the end piece.

I've taken to creating these as I found that I kept having to stop and break my modelling rhythm by going in search of images online of what I was trying to achieve, or that would inspire me.

My huntsmen kit also arrived at last today so I will be raiding it for parts to include too.

More soon.

Cheers,

Dante

Oooo sorry I missed this Dante, the sculpting on the arm is really starting to bring the piece together I think, along with the wizard mask I think the model model is looking great. looks like your not the only one that got a delivery My necromancer has been born off the wizard sprues. I have to say for such a small kit, the wizard kit really has a lot of stuff on it.

Speaking of Dante--how are the Huntsman models anyways? I've been thinking about getting some to paint up.

The huntsmen models are one of GW's best kits in recent times IMHO.

The Perry's always do nicely proportioned and detailed figures, the fact that the kit comes with twice as many heads and arms as you'd ever need, an extra set of legs, a dying orc and a whole range of cool accessories (including realistically sized pouches!) is just the icing on the cake!

Would really recommend them.

Anyway, hoping to get more progress done on Vespero today so hopefully pics due later.

Cheers,

Dante

The heads in the huntsmen kit don't suck at all, plus you get about 22 of them, 11 with fur hats, 11 with regular empire style hats, feathers etc.

Dante

Do you have any pics of the fur hats? Only pics I've seen, even of the sprue, show the regular styled hats.

Will take some later. There are some truly brilliant faces on the sprue though. A couple that are a little "so-so", but for the most part, very characterful and look a lot of fun to paint!

I caught your reference sheet on your blog and found it very interesting indeed. Looking forward to seeing further progress with these guys - how many men are you planning to have in the unit?

Got a bit more done on Vespero yesterday:

Mainly on the tops of the boots and the beginnings of the jerkin. The idea is he will have a leather jerkin with some puff and slash at the shoulders over the top of a fine silk duelist shirt.

Next up: finishing off the boots and adding detail to the jacket before moving onto the arms.

Also, as requested, here are a few pics of the huntsmen heads:

Dante

I like the work on the Jerkin. Nicely done - I like how you're using the bits, and I just wish I had your level of ability with GS! Looking forward to seeing this go further.
