Even the studio don't know after that but going on traditional releases it should be a marine, or CSM codex.
The DE models are almost entirely done, so I'd assume they come after the above marine release.
Not to derail the thread but, is there a source for the bolded part? This is the first I've heard of that.

that's simple, he heard some people who heard some things who thought they saw something on some site so then they go and believe it's true which gives everyone around them the wrong idea

Yeah but think about it from the perspective of all the non-Space Marine players out there, especially those of us who play Necrons or DE. We've gone YEARS without a codex update, and in the case of Necrons, our armies have been rather gimped by the new armor piercing rules in 5E. Meanwhile new Space Marine codexes and supplements are coming out at least once a year. I mean seriously, look at the new Legion of the Damned. The first thing out of my mouth when I saw that was "Oh just what 40K needs, MOAR SPEHSS MUHREENS" Not cool man.

And then people love to justify it by saying 'but your army is still playable, get over it' I would love to see someone pick up Necrons fresh from the box, give the codex a glance over then play. The look on their face as they realize half their rules are either stupid or a detriment, that it actually requires forethought to play them. Oh how it will ease my sleep for years to come. I've played Necrons since 3rd Ed. I've adapted to 5th Ed play, not happy about all the SPESS MEHRENS!!! updates but I'm biding my time. As I've seen with the new 'Nid book when we finally will be updated we will be a force to reckon again. In the meantime I will just drop my 2 Monoliths, explain how that his lack of lascannons means he is getting a nice piping hot serving of particle whips each turn no matter what he does to them. I may phase out but I will pull the shenanigans until then.

As a Necron and a Grey Knights player, I'd be happy to see either released this year. More than happy if one is released around christmas, then I won't have to buy everything myself!
Admittedly, since BA are getting a re-release, I might have to make a BA army with DH allies.... could be worth a try at least!

I just got back from the GW store in Columbia, MD. The manager said "Let's say that I wouldn't be surprised if Codex Necrons were released in late 2010." I also asked him about tau, my other army and he said that they probably won't be done in 2010 due to them still being "a deadly and competitive list." I had to stifle a laugh.

Hmm looking at the recent release schedual of MEQ, non- MEQ, MEQ, non- MEQ it seems possible to have this occur this year.
Blood Angles
Dark Eldar
Necrons (cos they're technicaly a MEQ army)
Of course if this happens then hell will be a popular sking destination and GW will announce a price cut.

As a tau player, the biggest thing that bugs me is marker lights. Being heavy 1, you usually only get 1 round of firing them before your pathfinders have to move. I think they need to be made assault to actually be worthwhile in the mech heavy 5th edition of 40k.

Tau Empire 2: + more kinds of Battlesuits, + more kinds of flying Tanks, + more kinds of Xenos There's a lot of room to expand the Tau army scope, which is awesome.

Lets see... quite a few things actualy.
- Fix the target priority items in the tau armory
- Ajust the costs of plasma rifles/other battlesuit weapons. Seriously.. we pay double of what everyone else pays for plasma goodness. Our missile pods are slightly overpriced compared to their rival, the autocannon.
- Ajust the costs of some suits, primarly the stealth suits, and the cost of some other units (drone sqauds for example... they are WAY overpriced for what they do)
- Add some new options other than railgun / heavy support spam. The tau are in a dire need of a few units, perhaps add in some of the forge world items into the actual codex?.... in other note the rescults of some of the tau models are in dire needs (crisis suits, broadsides, etc)

I could see one of the things that's holding the Necrons back is they could be doing what the "Nid codex did, which is add more units. Of course, it might take more thought to develop them since they don't evolve of off other units but are being newly awakened.
As for DE, I definitely see them planning it to be either true to the old dex to keep old players while still keeping it playable, or trying to ruin it so bad people will stop playing and they can stop getting emails about DE.

Yeah, some new Necron unit choices would be nice. They seriously have the smallest army list in the game. So far tho, the only new Necron model I've heard of coming out this year is an all-plastic version of the Tomb Spyder. I'm hoping to see a new Necron vehicle (other than the hugely points-expensive Monolith). I want a skimmer (or walker) that has a twin-linked version of the Heavy Gauss Cannon, and a lighter, faster CQB infantry unit with C'tan phase swords (or some type of close combat weapon).

On the codex front, I heard there was one due in January. But I doubt it. New 'crons would be nice, but a codex that makes them a force to be reckoned with, like the 'nids, rather than a rushed codex that makes them a "meh" army that are too close to MAHRHEENS to be a real threat. At the moment, Necrons are too predictable to be an issue, along with nerfed rules (thanks, 5th ed) make them a fairly pathetic force. If the enemy has one demolisher or an equivilent in thier army, then you're in a LOT of trouble.

I'm quite sure they'll be a codex release one day of the other, be it 2011 or later. After all, they are described as a rising threat in the background section of the BRB, aren't they? The realease of a plastic Tomb Spyder could also be a good sign (or a way to answer to the true line of sight doctrine of 5e, while leaving Gauss nerfed).
I'd really like to see necrons reveiwed in the line of Thousand Sons: troops having all the Relentless and Slow and Purposeful USR.

Well personally I expect Necrons to be re-released this year, I feel theyre the army that needs it most atm ( DE are still competitive, GK's still have great models). I cant think of any particularly popular armies that need doing before Necrons, so I would honestly predict them next after BA's (who are still in April!). and yes I'd even put money on it...
However, should they get re-released this year, I'd predict around Sept/Oct as apparently 2010 is to be a good year for WHF
actually, saying they need the Codex most probably means that Games Workshop will ignore them. sorry guys!
(also, I'm quite amused that Kurgash is posting so regularly in this topic after his rant. No offence intended, i just like the irony)

a man can only hold his rage in for so long, seeing his very first army reduced to a very obscured shadow of itself. Like getting the wooden train set for christmas back in the 30's and you are all so happy, now it's 2010 and you still have that trainset while the other kids have Nintendo, cellphones and the internet. Then the dark eldar come along, wave, and keep rolling their stone wheel.

Necrons need a new codex. They are so overpowered. One of my friends is an incredibly high roller and on average, each turn I annihilate half his 20 man squads and thenonly two fail we'll be back. Also with Gauss rules he almost always instant wounds my models. Plus he rolls fives or sixs everytime he moves. :(

Get them in combat, separate the squad from the lords with res orbs, power weapons, they won't get back up. Sweep em, move on. If you are definitely fighting Necrons take extra armor, the transports will always move. You still get armor saves from his gauss attacks. Unless you can assuredly knock the entire squad down, try not to pour sparatic fire into it, concentrate until it's down fully, next target. Pick off stranded squads outside the WBB webzone. They aren't at all hard to fight. You just have to know what you are doing...

I'm sorry, did you just say they're overpowered? While they're annoying as hell, they definitely aren't overpowered. Get into close combat with something that isn't Tau, deny them their saves, and they will crumple like wet paper. Plus, as irritating as the WBB rule is, if you can force them to spread out (IE with objectives or spreading your own units out) then you can pretty easily rip them down outside of the range of another Necron Warrior that can give them that WBB save.
As Kurgash said, you just have to know what you're doing. Also, your friend has fething ridiculous luck, or loaded dice.
