Worst models I've seen in nearly 14 years of playing. The new Minotaurs look nothing like Minotaurs, the Ungor look like they have Downs syndrome and my friend described the Razorgor (or whatever its called) as 'Pumba on Smack' - which I think is about accurate.

In general its a shoddy release, and 10 Ungor for £15?? Where do they get off? Thats got to be one of the worst cost-to-points-value deals they've ever done.

It appears the quality of GW's releases declines as the rate of their releases goes up. I've only just got back into the Hobby and I want to get rid of it all again after seeing the direction the company continues to take.

I had originally been looking forward to this release, but now I'm bitterly disappointed. I had hoped to see Mutants/Brays playing some part in the army, as they do in the fluff written everywhere (especially WFRP, which I play a lot) but it wasn't to be. The models (and the prices, as always) are my main gripe though.

I've owned Beastmen since 5th edition although I haven't played them much in 6th edition.

I agree that all the big stuff looks like crap: minotaurs are garbage, Pumba-gor is garbage and I'm not holding my breath on all the other special-rare choices that sound like they are going to go into the list.

The character models are rather meh, IMHO.

But I do like the Ungor a lot, as well as the Gors and Bestigors. Chariots are fine as long as they remain as is. And the old metal minotaurs are more than sufficient, and since I have 16 of them, I don't need to bother with the plastic crap.

I can't wait to dig into the army book, personally.

A few quick questions for you guys in the “know”.

Does anyone know how Dogs of War allies will be working with army books in the 7th edition Beastmen? (or 8th edition for that matter). Anyone know what direction GW intends to go with them?

I had a number of models I converted for 6th/7th edition to fill in gaps in the Beastmen list because I didn’t want to integrate Chaos Models.

I had ungor riding wolves to represent chaos marauders or Oglah Kahn’s wolfboys.

I had gors riding tuskgors to represent either chaos knights or Voland’s Venators.

If GW drops Dragon Ogres from the beast list I will keep my models and have them representing the Razorgors, possibly.

I was also lucky enough to keep my 45 metal ungor spearmen on their 20mm bases, and my 30 metal ungor hand warriors on their 20mm bases, so they won’t need rebasing. In 6th edition I used them as pikemen from dogs of war and Vespero’s Vendetta respectively. So I’m very excited to see the herd has been split (never liked the integrated rules) and I don’t have to rebase 75 models.

Are the Ungors back on 20mm bases?
I'll get the army book to have a look at it, but I'm certainly not buying any of the new models if I can help it.

Yup. The more I hear of new Beastmen release, the more it sounds as if the previous release in 2003 never happened. Gors and Ungors are rank-and-file, Ungors are on 20mm, Chariots are crewed by Gor and Bestigor, there is no such monster as Dragon Ogre Shaggoth etc...

That place is the harsh dark future far left with only war left.

I'm leaving my Ungors on 25mm bases, sod GW.
I think having them on the same size bases as the Gors shows how much weaker they look.

Its a joke what they've done with this army. Who wrote the new book, does anyone know yet?

I agree - it looks like a lot of the 2003 release never happened in GW's opinion.

Why is putting ungor back on 20 mm bases such a problem? They started that way and there is ample precedent in other armies for this; skinks->saurus; gobbos->O&G; wood elves->dryads. While I appreciate the flavor they tried to add in 6th edition I always thought the mixed herd rule, as well as ambush, was rather cumbersome. I'm glad they're going into stand alone units.

hmm... the only light I see atm is that Ungors can now have Bows, which is only right for an ambushing/raiding/hunting race.

that's quite a minor though.

They look like the have Down's syndrome? well... not to say anything bad about people with Down's syndrome, but in the (Warhammer) Old World's bigotted views chaotic mutation and genetic handicap are interchangable.

The army book isn't to bad

and the minotaurs look ok........provided someone else paints them and not GW. I don't know if they're trying to emphasize the Muscles but thats not need looking at the plastics unpainted I can see a better way of making them look better

as for Pumba on steroids that would look good if THEY CUT HIS TAIL OFF!!!! seriously do this and the model will look better

Bestigors, Gors and Ungors are nice models this time around and the characters are nice aswell

but for the Cygor and Ghorgon I recommend you look in toy shops and the internet for either a Cyclops toy or a four armed beast as these 2 when they're released will look like the minotaurs

I read the rulebook the other day:

Confirmed:
Harpies
Jabberslythe
Goregon
Cygor

Can't remember all their stuff..they all seem to cause terror (not the harpies) and hit really hard.

Special leadership test at the beginning of each turn gives them the potential for Hatred AND Frenzy.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.
