Just for fun and if one round of shooting is included then I'm surprised that Maugan Ra doesn't get a mention.
I'm not saying he'd win - his lack of an invulnerable save would be his downfall but he'd be the best bet for the eldar (if it needs to be eternal warrior).
Very interesting none-the-less.

No, they are not. In fact the exact opposite is true. The goal is to find the best combat character in a 1v1. The rules of this competition accomplish this well.
If the rules allowed for Tau commanders, they would scoot away and win every time, making the competition pointless, and then the rules would be dumb.

I'm saying there shouldn't be shooting at all, because allowing shooting forces you to assume that anyone with good shooting is playing stupid. For example, Marneus Calgar could backpedal while blazing away for the whole game and take out most of these guys before they reached him.

The characters are charging at each other and starting combat. They are firing their weapons once as they charge. The point is that it is a given that the characters charge each other in this competition. It is not that difficult.

How often do you see two top HQ choices go toe to toe both unsupported? Never.
I ran the numbers with a Bloodthirster (Unholy Might) with a reroll for his invulnerable save to simulate the bonus of having Fateweaver in his backfield as direct support and the greater daemon trounced every HQ listed in this dueling competition. While this is a fun thread to follow I don't see it as an exercise in realistic tactica... You never see these types of combats in actual game play.

If you consider other factors then you might as well consider all other factors, which cause massive problems. These characters are in a tournament/duel, not a battle.

I wanna see the same tournament run the same way with arjac rockfist in there, he meets all the requirements as technically he can join a squad once.
He is the only one i can see beating abbadon, with a str 10 shooting attack and 6 str 10 attacks on the charge always hitting on 3+ and getting re-rolls to hit. Only real drawback is 2 wounds but he does have a 3+ invul

I think the odds are against him as he will strike last the first round of close combat. Lysander is just as good, better even. The sheer weight of attacks Abbadon can throw out is just nasty.
