When the gun dies the Techmarine reverts back to an IC, essentially becoming 'another' unit.
So the TFC dies and then if you kill the IC, that's a second thing killed...a completely different unit.

At least that's how I've seen it run, but if it's otherwise, that's only better for the TFC.

@Fetterkey:
So whent he vehicle blocking the line of sight is wrecked, you'd 'F'ed it and it needs to move for LoS and can't shoot, or has to settle with a restricted Line Of Sight.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

We usually run it the other way, where you have to kill both the gun AND the Techmarine in order to get a point for the unit. Has there been a YMDC thread about this issue?

As for the vehicle being wrecked and blocking the gun, I've found that this occurs only rarely, but your mileage may vary. If you really want to prevent that from occurring, you could do it with two vehicles, but I'm not sure that that's worthwhile.

Mesopotamia. The Kingdom Where we Secretly Reign.

The Thunderfire Cannon doesn't give up two KPs according to the INAT FAQ.

It's an artillery unit, and therefore gives up one KP.

It doesn't give up two KP's even if the priest is left alone. The original unit is TF + priest, if the TF dies, the priest can act independently, but you havn't killed the unit before you have taken down the priest too. The rule doesn't say that the original unit is now two different units, or that the TF suddenly is worth a KP on its own. I think your group places too much in the wording about him becoming an independent character. It is a different case from f.ex. Chronos
