I may get some because they sell them at the local Hobbycraft.. so pricey though.
I have a set of sculpting tools - three metal ones I picked up at Hobby craft, one very similar to the GW one, one with a smooth arrowhead shape on one end and a more pointy other end, and one that's a sharpish point. They are helping me a bit - I dread to think how bad I'd be trying to just use my fingers - but the rubber ended ones do look useful so I might pick one up when I can.

Hmmm.... I think the proper word for your spawn would have to be interesting... I like its chaosy/ warpy spawniness

I'm not really that keen on GW's spawn kit, and the FW spawn looks amazing but it looks like a specific species or class of monster, rather than a 'mindless, slavering heap of twisted limbs and quivering protrusions.'
I wanted to see if I could make something that would work.
Now I need to paint him.. and work on the rest of the army.

The Aspiring Champion was a bit tricky; his tunic meant that I couldn't get the leg pieces wrapped around properly so I cut it off and rebuilt it once the legs were in place, which I think worked quite well.
I also worked on smoothing the leg pieces around the back so the seam is covered, and added a bit of GS chest detail to cover up the rough area where his Aquila was.



I have worked a bit more on the back of the legs since that photo, i think they're a bit better now, smoothing the area out is a bit tricky.

all I am thinking of when I see the pistol that way is... give me the money or the little girl gets it!

When someones holding a gun like that it's my personal opinion they look unnatural unless their head is looking at something in that general direction, and even then I don't think it looks natural to hold a gun straight out to the side. I've used and worked with a lot of firearms and it's just an unnatural pose...I am a real stickler for stuff like that though, and have a tendency to anger my friends a bit.

The chaos spawn is great, for a first shot at sculpting I'd say you did just fine.

Certainly it's not my intention for him to be actually shooting while not looking where he's firing. He is gesturing with his gun.

Time for a bit of an update of what I've done today. I'm off work ( :( ) but that means I get to work on my stuff more. ( )

I revisited my AoBR termies because the milliput work really didn't quite work.. so I pulled it off or worked over it with GS:


- I particularly like this one.. took a while because the AoBR terminator heads just don't want to be replaced and I had to cut it a fair bit, then GS around the chaos term head to make it sit right. That bit does look better in real life than in the photo.



And these two are both mainly cloth work, though I did replace the milliput horn with a gs one.

I've also been working on turning some elements from my bitz box into an extra posessed:

I need an extra backpack for him though.

I also did a fair bit of work on the bases of three of my chaos terminators and primed them:



I need more non-chaos bits before I can do the rest of them.

me thinks ya need to hit it more with the primer, id try white since your going to do pastiles me thinks.

Looking at the photos they do make it look like the primer isn't covering.. in fact it's the light reflecting off the model.. at least I guess that's what it is because I'm holding the models in front of me now and the primer has total coverage. odd.
Pastiles? I'm aiming for dark purple and silver, as mentioned earlier .

So.. I was priming my CSM squad whose legs are all done more or less, and the spray nozzle of the primer I was using decided it hated me and sealed itself shut.
Any suggestions as to how to unclog it?

Think it's about time for an update.
Have done a bit of painting but its' nowhere near ready to show just yet.
What I will show instead is what I've been working on today: what will become my squad of True Scale Noise Marines (at least that's currently my plan).

So what I did was chop the lower legs off a standard set of CSM legs, and also chopped them in half down the center. (ouch!) I glued plasticard spacers in between and filled up with greenstuff which I then smoothed out. I slightly reposed one of the legs to get a more dynamic pose too.
This was stage one: making the legs bigger.

I chopped the belt section off the CSM torso and put a blob of greenstuff in place which I sculped into a 'stomach' section and added a belt underneath. This was stage two: adding the missing lower torso section onto the CSM.

I then trimmed the edges off some chaos terminator shoulder pads and used small blobs of greenstuff to hold them in place.

Finally I swapped the head with one from the WHFB Chaos Warrior sprue, because they look fantastic.
