Be careful on that assumption guys.
If a package has been inspected on behalf of HMRC that the couriers and Parcel services are obliged to do in some cases, they are entitled to levy a fee for doing so.
They dont have to collect the Duty and VAT for the item they could just hand the item over for customs to deal with ... and good luck in recovering it and not being charged for it to be forwarded.
I used to import Laserdiscs many years ago... and always had this issue.
So despite you not wanting to pay the fee, they do incur a cost to collect it.. its not a service they should be expected to do for free and the alternative of customs having it kicked around the various bonded whouses in the destroy if not paid for pile.. is not a great one.
