I don't see the big deal about women being in a gamestore. Obviously mothers go into GWs a lot with their kids, but a middle aged woman with a hyperactive kid is harder to objectify, I guess.
My female friends quite often go into the GW or indy store with me if we're walking past and I say something like, "Ooh, the GW! I need some green paint and another tank!" One of them even argues with the manager of the local GW, and has sort of befriended another regular staffer.

Now, my two closest female friends are both quite attractive (a stacked goth and a model-hot pseudopunk) so they get a lot of stares but as they're in the store with someone who's obviously a gamer (and a fairly intimidating person if other peoples opinions can be trusted) so they probably assume the given ladyfriend is actually my significant other, thus no one actually propositions them.

I've taken girlfriends in with me too (for brief pop ins, I don't expect any non gamer to hang out in a GW for any length of time), one of them had dated a gamer before and actually talked to the staff about the new (at the time) harlequins being utterly badass models. I don't hide my gaming from anyone, although I do tend to play up the sillyness of the 40k universe while discussing it with "outsiders". I find as long as you don't force people into playing or talk about it like serious business all the time, only the most superficial girls will give a damn that you play toy soldiers.

Green Blow Fly wrote:I remember a store I used to play in tournaments before I moved down to Florida. A lot of the gamers there kept telling me about some woman they often referred to as the Black Widow. She would come to tournaments wearing tight clothes and played a daemon bomb CSM army. The guys would be besides themselves if they played her and I was told she won every RTT she came out to play. It seemed like our schedules never coincided... I would come out and win an RTT then the Black Widow would come to the next one and win. Finally after at least a year I was told they had heard through the grapevine that she was planning to attend the next tournament there. I tailored my Dark Angels army to beat daemon bomb and came out. Sure enough she was there too and I instantly recognized her. She had been married to a veteran gamer that taught her how to power game and would come out to play when her husband was out of town on business. She was pretty hot looking and dressed like a little vixen. We both ended up on the top table in the final round facing off against each other but she didn't recognize me. The Black Widow was very talkative throughout our game constantly asking for advice and leaning over the table to show off her massive cleavage. The game was very close right up to the last turn then she asked if it was alright if she went outside to smoke a cigarette buy I said I wanted to finish the game first and then the Black Widow got mad. I ended up winning the game and was told she tanked my soft scores but I still won the RTT. Afterwards everybody asked me how I managed to beat her but I just smiled and said the dice had been very kind to me.

I'm used to going into shops and having guys stare. It's normal, not many girls go into these shops anyways. Most of them think that they're "stupid".

But unlike most girls, I LOVE GAME SHOPS.

I'd like to see more girls in there with me though, haha.

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

There used to be a decent lookin gal in my old 40k group...she was married to one of the other players though. And once in blue moon a rather attractive girl gets dragged into comin out to Friday Night Magic, and ends up talking to every other guy there because her boyfriend isn't paying her any attention. This equals win for me

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

seems the sculpting is sagging heavily.... a good shot of zap a gap would fix the problem oo and Green GOOD MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!1 I hate women who play those games during a game.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

I'd rather see the women play mind games rather than the men.

Funny thing is, in that pic the caption-writer is obviously very distracted.

...because it's a Wave Serpent.

Personally I thought the girl was cute, but then I like girls with more meat on them. Skinny chicks aren't my thing.

More on topic [or other part of the topic] I've managed to get my fiance to collect 2500 points of Eldar. She's built it all up, painted her troops choices, won 2 games against me [defeating my 'ard boyz list, then my revamped 'ard boyz list] and another friend of mine, then she's totally seemed to lose interest. Yet she keeps buying models that she has yet to build for a dark elf army.

Maybe once she's done with school.....

To me, nerd has always represented that anti-social being who is obsessed with comics, videogames, computers, miniatures, etc.

Whereas a geek is someone whos into all of that, but still maintains a social lifestyle just like your average joe, only they have an affinity for more "out there" stuff than the normal populace.

This is funny in an etymological sense since the latter word used to be a kind of circus act, a "geek show", consisting usually of a fellow biting heads off chickens or other animals.

my missus got into the hobby not long after i got back into it and never having heard of it at all before...

Now whenever I'm heading over to the GW store or mates place for a game the conversation goes like this...

"yeah i'll be over around 3pm..."
"cool, is your GF coming?"
"i don't know... maybe"
"because you know she's more than welcome..."
"thanks, i'll let her know"
"no no! really! she's welcome!"
"okaaaay... cheers"
"yeah cool man see you both soon!"

Meanwhile at the other end of the spectrum..

"hey babe, are you keen for a 40k game?" (my god that sounds nerdy!)
"um... yeahhh maybe... are you sure the guys won't mind?"
"nope."
"are you sure?"
"yes i'm SURE they won't mind"
"hmm.. nah maybe i'll just stay here.. i don't know the rules enough and i need to finish this paint scheme"

But she's a geek at heart. The fact that a friend and I were discussing how much of a geek movie 'Star Trek' is and she turns around yelling "Star Trek's NOT a nerds movie!!"...

In fact, she is about to start writing posts on my blog from the gamer girl perspective.. i shall be sure to inform the population of dakka when that happens... you can check the blog now though in my signature below (mwahaha sneaks in publicity for blog - ahem)

I've been lucky enough to find a nerdy chick that compliments me nicely, but the first time she saw Warhammer she picked up a figure and pointed it at me and said, "pew, pew, pew!" I was mortified.

Now she's learned alot about my hobbies and has picked up a few of her own, including understanding warhammer and getting into painting some, but every once in a while she'll give me a "pew, pew, pew" to drive me crazy.

A gamer I am. Game I must.
