Well, I for one can't speak much for Obama's ploicy on whatever, but at least Rudd is actually taking a slightly firmer stance against the Whalers than the Howard's government, which pretty much just ignored them outright. They've already won the case in thier own court, and filed an injunction. Can you really blame them though if they hesitate to make a international incident over a bunch of whales? (Which, as far as I recall, aren't even endangered?)

I'm hoping for mutant 'Roos, a la Tank Girl!

It's not so much that they kill whales that we are pissed at them. It's because they kill whales in OUR territory. Much of Oz thinks that the whaling ships should be boarded and scuttled, and the crews deported if they shoot any whale in Aussie territorial waters.

Actually, while there is whaling going on in the Australian Whale Sanctuary, whether it is actually our territory is disputable. According to the UN Maritime Law Treaty (Signed and ratified by Aus) a countries ocean territory expands up to 12 nautical miles from the shorline. Inside there, you are under that countries laws. However, at points the Aus Wahle Sanctuary stretches out up to 200 nautical miles from the shorline. A bit of a gap, and Japan doesn't recognise these areas as under Australian soveriegnty.

As I've said, he's definitely doing more than the previous government. Whether that's enough is a debatable.

True. I thought it was causualties over the entirety of the war, but then I took a closer look at the date. Finland rocks! Carl Mannerhiem must be some sort of tactical geniu-CREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!!!!!

Not to denigrate Finland's achievement in any way, but it has to be remembered that the Red Army had commissars.

Rudd (as usual) is doing nothing.

The move to take Japan to court will be after the next federal election.

He promised the same back in 2007 before the last election and nothing happened.

Japan is Australia's largest trading partner (even after all those years of recession in Japan)

Rudd is a complete nincompoop.

The same could be said for all politicians. Personally, I can see why he is slightly hesitant with kicking an international fuss over this. But I am also disappointed that he is failing to live up to his word.

For those who aren't Australians, our prime minister Kevin Rudd (or Krudd as the local wags now call him) also has vowed to:

Instigate and ensure worldwide nuclear disarmament (fail)

End global warming (fail)

Establish an East Asian community along the lines of the Eu (fail)

About all he can do is speak waffle better than sir Humphrey Appleby in Yes minister and spend taxpayers money on hugely wasteful, and rather pointless infrastructure programs.
