Those are the main issues with Abby.

I think Delivery is the biggest drawback.
Imagine if Abby had the equivalent of Wings. I think he'd be a standard choice in alot of armies then. Hell the Bloodthirster is a very common HQ and he's the same price (when properly equipped).

I think he is definitely worth taking... BUT only if you have the Forgeworld mini or a good conversion. The old model just doesn't do him justice anymore, especially given the increase in size of Terminator models. Next release he definitely deserves a new model...

He's unstoppable unless you outpace him or he rolls 1's...at least the first is in your hands...and is not so hard.

Deepstriking is a meh delivery method.
Icons are needed if you don't want to chance anything, while DS means no charge.
Then you need to run with the squad to get out of plasma/demo cannon formation, which means no usage of combi-weapons (which is the strength of the Chaos Termies, not the combat weapons).

Then you have the issue of Abby not being affected by Morale Tests, which is an issue if that sort of stuff flies around your LGS. Otherwise, depending on the squad size, it's not that hard to force a morale test...and ask the Necrons...those 11's and 12's come up at the worst times.

@The Watcher in the Dark:
Forgeworld has a mini? Or are you talking about the display piece?

Anyway, if Abby had some force multipliers he'd be worth it.
So far the only worth he is to the list is only in combat. You get him there, he is generally worth it.
But if you can't, or it's expensive to get him there, or he's killing GEQ hordes, he's not worth it.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I don't know if they'll ever fix abaddon's mobility without upgrading him to daemon prince or giving us upgrade options like a regular lord.

I'd love to see chaos get access to one of the named daemon princes. Obviously not something crazy like Angron , but maybe one like the DP serving under Abaddon in the black legion(Dhar'leth) only with wings to give him proper mobility without requiring the player to spend even more points on an already expensive unit to allow it to fulfill its intended purpose.

FW mini for those that haven't seen it: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/b/b7/Abaddon.jpg pretty sure its just a one-off and hasn't been put into production unless someone finds it sold somewhere that I didn't.

He is really good if your opponents are not. How does he do against Mech Eldar? How does he do against Fateweaver? How does he do against Mech Vets? I bet he is great against Grey Knights on foot. He might wreck footslogging Orks but so does my grandma. He is great if you are playing herohammer, if you are playing competitive 40k he is trash.

He is like just about everything else in the book... overcosted. For 275 he should have FnPain, a 3+ Invulnerable and some sort of Force Multiplier for his army or allow Terminators to be fielded as troops(not that you would want to take them).

Abaddon's greatest strength is his ability to bring different troop types together and lead them. If anyone in the game should have a leadership ability that changes how his troops operate it should be him. He should also have some kind of bombardment ability seeing how he has the most insane ship the Planet Killer that is his space transport wherever he goes.

I'll try to help this in the future =p. We've actually agreed quite a bit in the past couple tactics/army lists posts.

Pat that askala, O-H-I hate this stupid state

He is one of my least favorite characters playwise in the game. I have used him on many occassions and dont like how he plays. I have used him with termies, huge mistake, thinking oh 5 guys in termie armor should wreck face. Nope instead killed 3 guys to his 4. One termie left and failed morale. Possessed is the best way to use him but is ungodly expensive and better used on more troops since 2/3 of games are objective control. He is definitely a horrible choice for most games. I would much rather use Kharn for uberkilliness.

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, its just a freight train coming your way!

In a straight brawl, Ghazzies magical 2++ Waagh aside, Abaddon will kill any Character or MC he comes up against. Even Mephy won't kill him if math-hammer plays out. I think that Abaddon is most certainly worth 275, but with his lack if mobility he's not really 275 he's 525 (Him + Raider).

I have found that running him with Plague Marines works exceedingly well. He seems less of a threat, the PMs have the same chance to save from small arms as terminators but don't take wounds as much, and you get defensive grenades on top of it. Hopefully with the PMs more average combat prowess you'll get stuck in instead of overkilling as well. On top of all that they're fearless and scoring. This does, however, make for one massively expensive unit.

I vote no, because as awesome as he seems to be, your opponent will almost always recognize him for the threat he is and will gun him down with a vengance. And if you deep strike him, he can't assault, and will again be flattened into a massive pancake. it is just not worth giving him up to your opponents.
Note: if you do have the skills to get him into close combat, then take him. NOW. otherwise, dont bother.

Dear Nurgle's Armpits...
Let this fething die. It's been 7 months since it has started to rot away.

Is he worth it? Like any 'worth it' thread, the answer is: it depends.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.

It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
