The Terran Dark Angels had black power armour with red and white markings, while those recruited from Caliban had dark green armour with white and red markings - to honour the great forests of the world.

The Fallen, as mentioned by posters above, could have changed their armour to absolutely anything in the years that followed the Heresy - so - go nuts!

Before they changed the Chaos and Imperial Guard codex I had a 10 man squad of Fallen, with Cypher as a HQ choice. I wish they bring Cypher back.

More than half the legion "turned" on the Lion (for different reasons, some believed the Lion waited to see the outcome of the Heresy, others felt jilted by the Lion & the imperium)
During the battle on Caliban the "Fallen" were cast through time and space or both! Some pre heresy black armoured DA literally just appeared in the 40k universe, so they'd have perfect black armor....Others existed from the Horus Heresy era and have either fallen to Chaos and wear all sorts of armor, and others believe they were the loyal ones and refuse to change armor of the 1st legion)
The "loyalists" of the Lion painted armour green after Caliban battle in tribute to the jungles that were all gone
There were "loyalist" to the Lion that actually, once learning of Johnson's intensions during the heresy, broke away from the Dark Angels days and decades after the Caliban Battle (green armoured fallen)

Spartanlegion - I'm still not sure if you're understanding my point. You are probably 100% correct about what is written in the books about the DA fallen and loyalists and what they have been known to look like. The thing is they are not the only possible colors for the fallen(non-chaos worshiping) and I listed a huge post of reasons why.

If you're talking to someone specifically about something they said in order to correct them it is really helpful to quote what you're responding to or at least put their name like I did.

The original question of the poster was "What was the original color of the DA armor, black or very dark green that looked black?"

A Fallen DA army can be any color a persons heart desires...your right. I never said otherwise.

I am making a pre-heresy Dark Angels army (not to be confused with a Fallen DA army that fell to Chaos).....

I just wanted to help the poster out with some suggestions and pics of the old stuff....

Where did you find the pics of those pre heresy marines spartanlegion? I would love to see how they made/painted them.

Pre-Heresy can also be Pre-Lion. I think they did become their current green under The Lion.
