Can we defind "Old"? Can we defind "young" ?
I am assuming 1969 and older but I am just assuming at this point.
Some of my favorites, and by no means a complete list
12 Angry Men
To Kill a Mockingbird
Anything Hitchcock
Really anything Henry Fonda
Some Like it Hot - has the best closing line in Movie History
Patton - Even though it was a 70's Movie
The Searchers
Old Acquaintance
The list could go on and one

In 2010 everyone in the world knows who Marilyn Monroe is, I figured I better find out why.
Those are both pretty funny movies (my wife is just about obsessed with her)
As far as old movies go, the majority of them honestly, bore me to tears. But I have seen some that were pretty good. Casablanca and most John Wayne movies I liked. Mostly enjoy the old cowboy movies.

I've always loved The Odd Couple with Walter Matthau & Jack Lemon. Operation Petticoat and Father Goose with Cary Grant are great movies. John Wayne's The Quiet Man and McLintock are favorites of ours.

Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is by far the best silent film ever made! (incidentally, Alfred Hitchcock was on the set during some of the filming, Although he had no direct effect on the film)
When those new fangled "Talkies" came out I found myself liking everything by:
Hitchcock (His silent work is ok, but pales in comparison to his later work)
The Marx Brothers
Fritz Lang (his silent work is great too)
Akira Kurosawa
My Greatest films made before I was born:
1.Strangers on a Train
Now in no particular order the rest
Casablanca
A Clockwork Orange
Star Wars: A new Hope
The Blues Brothers
Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
Seven Samurai
Rear window
North By Northwest
Psycho
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
Rebecca
King Kong
Wizard of Oz
Ok I am tierd of typing now, maybe I will edit more in later.... most likely not since I am lazy too.

@ GES
If you like Vincent Price you should watch "The last man on earth",it's based on Richard Mathersons book "I am legend"

I watched the first half hour or so, turned it off because I was laughing so hard.
I've since tried a few more times to ge through it, but the smae thing keeps happening.
Also, watched Requiem for a HeavyWeight.
Rod Serling did a great job with it, using his prior experiance as a boxer in the Army to further it. I enjoyed alot and am gonna watch it again, since I fell asleep at the last half hour.

That's funny,I found myself doing the exact same thing with the Will Smith version. ,seriously though..The Vincent Price version is a bit "ammusing" but it has a "desperate" charm about it that I enjoyed.

I luaghed at the body burning scenes. It's so obviously a mannequin, and I kept thinking of that in every scene afterward, whcich is what caused me to stop watching it. I might try and finish tommorow.

The Odd Couple (Walter Matthau and Jack Lemon were amazing actors. I loved Grumpy Old Men and its sequel, partly because I actually am a proud Minnesotan) To Kill a Mockingbird (An excellent novel and movie. I may not have thought so when I was younger, but it's definitely something that should be required reading for students) 12 Angry Men (As others have said, an incredible movie) West Side Story (Proof positive that wars can be fought not with words or weapons, but with a well-choreographed dance number) The Blues Brothers (That ending chase scene is just...holy crap) Cheaper by the Dozen (The original version based on the real-life family. Granted, the new version wasn't bad - but the old version was pretty awesome, and it has such a tearjerker ending) The Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three (Old version with Walter Matthau - the ending is just awesome) Looking over some of these, it's interesting to look back at old films and notice just how vastly different they can be from modern day ones. Aside from the obvious technology differences, some older movies can be truly depressing with some really sad endings - whereas almost all of today's movies have a happy ending. Not that I'm knocking a good ending to a movie, but I'm a huge fan of movies that have a bittersweet or even outright depressing ending.

Looking at the above posts, don't think I'm adding much to the discussion, but my favourite oldies are...
Seven Samurai (a must watch, the rain lashed final battle is awesome cinema)
12 Angry Men (great acting yes, but the effect of watching one man slowly turn the tide of opinion towards the right decision is what makes this great viewing)
Rear Window (Mmm... Grace Kelly)
North by Northwest (better than many of today's big action blockbusters)
Kelly's Heroes (daft, but great fun)

No love for Spartacus?
Otherwise:
Blues Brothers
Once upon a time in the West
Kelly's Heroes (thanks for reminding me of that un Flashman)
Clint's spaghetti western trilogy (you know the ones I mean).
I'm partial to those old Bud Spencer and Terence Hill westerns as well.
