Thanks you all very much for the nice comments put smiles on my face first thing in the mornning.
I am up loading the landraider pictures as I speak.
The air brush question. I dont have one and have never used one but I have be told by people that it works very well. You get a slighty different effect from pictures ive seen bit duller but very good I will invest one day maybe when I redo my tau army they are going to get stripped and done red so that would be mega fast.
I have the pictures of spray paint gone bad when wash is used with it here. I took some pictures of a devestator squad member next to one of my assault marines who is done properly and you can see it when the picture is normall size but if you click and zoom a little you will really see how screwed the bolter marine is. The whole squad will be getting stripped and their lascannons replaced with multi meltas at some point.
Also I have some pictures of two rhinos that are ready to be refurbed they have been paint stripped with that stuff I was talking about to show you how gak hot it is on plastic and resin.
Spray fail first.
Made me very angry that did two weeks befor GT. on a whole squad.
Now the rhinos These were in an old marine army of mine bothe were sprayed black you will notice the plastic is very dark it has been stained by the spray but the resin has not. metal does not get stained either of course if you spray them white the plastic comes out lighter.
The one with the eagal door has been painted twice I was going to seel it on ebay as a dark angel one which just proves how good the stuff is even more.
And just in time for me to put my post up the land raider pictures have finished so here are some nice tastey snaps. Compared to the rhinos which you will see in a bit, *they are no uploading* I think I need to add a bit more mud to the lan raider its not quite lumpy enough. Anyway here you go hope you like it.
Well there you go as allways all comments welcome I have my two finished rhinos comming in a bit I left the others as I havnt added their mud yet.
Enjoy
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Update bout 15 minutes on rhinos internets slow today. Automatically Appended Next Post: Right ok the two rhinos are here.
Thats the first one.
Now the last one of the second rhino I of course have not finished painting the shoulder pad thats still wip M y rhinos are a bit plain but its a gamming army and they have lots of lovely mud. I cant freehand at all which is why you see forge world brass on my tanks I really need to make some nice arrow stencils to put on the rhinos to paint in or something but I suck at making things like that to. Might get one of my mates to help me make them.
Hope you guys have fun with my big update today

Argh I was just on and saw my thread I was like hang on that should be on about page 10 by now its so out of date lol.
Im glad you like the mud its really easy to do.
Basicly you get some static flock and really fine sand bung it in a little lid with a glob of pva. Mix it all up and you get a lumpy stodge.
Just gloope that on your models and bare with it because its like ow my god what have I done at that point but when it dries it looks a lot less of a mess.
The pva dries and you get some detail back. Then just paint it. Simple
And yes the wash rules
PS sorry I hant been updating for a while I have had a tone of personal stuff going on and its just been a bad time when I get back into the way of it I will start doing my blog pictures again. I do come on dakka every day though so I can reply to all your comments I just arnt doing much painting atm.

Yeah you have got that right. I gave a rough guide on here so you can use that. Like I think I said give them a light spray when they are on the sprue then build them then give them more light sprays not a heavy one. You gonna put pictures up of your test models?

looks super great , but for the mud I would take a tooth brush and dip it the brown your using , and rub your finger across the brush flicking some mud spatter on the sides of the rhinos above the mud line to make it look more natural .
kinda like this affect

I wont tooth brush my models it wont work with the glooped mud. it will miss loads of the textured gloop and then look really crap.
Dont get me wrong its a good way of doing it just not for my army. Also I do like the way my mud looks its not for every one my mate hates the lack of random bits but I dont mind as I get random bits from flaping the tank brush about when painting on the brown and I like having them all the same where as if they had random big splats they could end up quite different.
Also as Ive started doing it its to late my models have to be the same I cant have different styles in the same force Im really fussy about it.
Thanks for all the comments guys

Truffle wrote:The spray is hard to get right. you have to waste a lot.
Basicly put your models on a box to spray them.
Shake up your can well.
Spray it into thin air for a couple of seconds to get it going *wastefull but you have to*
Spray it on the box away from the models and you are looking for it to be a bit watery but really to make sure there are no powdery bits. The powdery bits ruin models if you get that and then wash them it will *invert you will get light resess and dark razed sections which look crap I have a dev squad that had that happen I will put pics up tomorrow so you can see how not to do it.
When you are happy it is not powdery then spray but very lightly do a couply of light coats not a heavy one, and it helps if you give them a light spray when they are on the sprue its good for the hard to reach bits when the model is built.
Also Im a bit lucky I have this gak hot paint striper that will strip anything reguardless of how much paint it has on it if its plastic metal or resin with no damage to the model and you dont even soak it you just slap it on and take it straight of but its like £12 a liter. Ill put it on here at some point with some before and after pics just to show I aint making it up because it sounds to good to be true.
As for the wash you can slap it on but you ahve to smothe it out fast if you are to heavy its easy on the men but on tanks it can be really hard you have to really use a tank brush *which is hard since nobworkshop discontinued the best brush in their line* to smothe it as you put it on. I paint tanks a panel at a time or you get lines where it dried befor you got to move it along.
I will be putting rhino and landraider pictures up tomorrow.
Hope that helps you out mate thanks for posting
Hey Truffles! What is the name of the paint stripper you use? Right now I am using simple green or brake fluid. I don't like either one. It sounds like you have to best brand to use!
Thanks!

Its called
removeALL 220
Thats how its typed if you search for it. Its from England which is good for you guys over here that are stuck as most stripers like the aparently brilliant simple green is over in the usa.
This stuff costs a lot of money but is well worth it you save a lot of money if you buy it bulk.
Please not the there are a lot of versions of removeALL but its 220 that you want. This stuff IS better than all paint stripers I have ever seen you dont even have to let it soak reguardless of how heavy the paint is or what type of model it is ie resin metal or plastic just put it on and then scub it off with a tooth brush straight away. Some results can be seen on my two rhinos earlier in this thread.
Heres a link to the companies website so you can have a look. http://shop.cirrus-systems.co.uk/index.php?cPath=29_21
That should be the link to the page with the price lists for it. Hope that helps you out. Ps this stuff dont hurt your skin but will shine it up real good I advise using gloves.

Ok here we go then the first proper update for ages.
You asked for tactical marines so heres tactical marines
Squad 1
Squad 2
I will point out that I need to touch up the bases on squad 2 they are chiped I recently done this to 1 and 3 also I need to black wash around the eyes again this was recently done to 1 and 3 when I touched up the bases.
Squad 3
I thought I would close up on the sarge instead of all the specials of squad 3 as he is the ONLY marine in the army outside of the command squad that has a bare head.
So there you go guys and girls I hope the pics are the kind you wanted if not just tell me and I will do some more. Next up I will do my terminators.
Ow have any of you looked at the removeALL yet?
Thanks for all ya kind comments cya

Hi Truffle!
Great work indeed... I am building up some confidence right now to get my SM vehicles painted. Have invested in a pigment kit, will try to get some mud on them belts like yours..
I cant help think of bronze-patina when I look at the pictures ( the green color ). Is that what you were aiming for? I must try that on some of my chest eagles.
My SM cant afford real gold :-) And they dont polish their armor as often as the should...
Again... Good Job. I am looking forward to the termies. I have an unpainted unit of 10 and a Termie Chaplain waiting for some brush-love..
Regards,
-Kenneth-

Ive just paint striped a forge world leman russ executioner from my quite over sized imperial guard army I want to have my marines and guard painted the same so this will be the test tank. When its finished drying I will take some snaps to show you what it looks like post stripping.
@ urugnek Ive never used pigment kits befor so I cant help you there Im afraid try some thing out on spare sprue befor you do anything you dont like on a model is the best thing I advise.
I wasnt really going for anything with the green, basicly I started this army the week the washes came out I brought them all sat down I decided I wanted to use the bone so then I got a rack of shoulder pads all painted bone and painted the insides all with one having a different wash on top of the bone I thought the green was the nicest with the blue a close second but I was using the marines a dark angels so it made sense also to use the green not the blue
Hope that give you a bit of inside into my choices. Good luck with the mudding send some pictures of your tests and welcome to dakka I see you are a new member. Automatically Appended Next Post: Right heres the leman russ pictures.
I love my paint stripper for some reason its made the resin go pink, very pink dunno why never done it befor but it really is pink you cant see it really in the pics never mind. I need to give the model another wash in soapy water to get rid of any residue and then it will be ready to be resprayed white after a few rebuilds.
Gonna take the tank commander out close the hatch cut off and replace the smoke launchers and give it a searchlight then just mill over it see if anything else needs doing.
CC always welcome.

I have already after I took the picture washed the turret but it will take a while for me to do the rest as Im not really in the mood today :( need some motivation to do things.

You can take any ideas you want thats the point of putting things on here glad you like it.
Ive washed the tank now heres some snapps.
I will do the metal work now. It wont be quite the same as the marines. I will do the metal boltgun then wash it badab black not just badab black. I think the guard tanks need a bit more detail on their metal as they wont have any green on them. Im gonna give them solid metal guns to show that over time they will of had guns pulled off and new ones put on but wouldnt bother doing new paint jobs and all that messing about prettying things up like their space marine lords would.
My fluff states that these imperial guard are from the planets under the rule of the corpsers "my space marines" and therefore are my space marines own imperial guard force if you like.
Anyway hope you like.

Hey guys sorry I hant done an update lately.
Ive decided to scrap the washed colour scheme on the guard. I nearly finished the tank added mud and stuff and it just dint sit right so im scrapping it befor i do an army ill regret.
My guard have always been city fighting guard so im going back to that.
Ive done a test storm trooper tonight and took a couple of shots for you what do you think.
PS this is ment to be a very simple colour scheme as i have bloody tones of guard even more than marines and sorry if the pics arnt perfect my room lighting is bad and i dint use a tripod but they are ok.
So what do you guys think? and if any of you want to see the leman russ how it is atm just let me know.
Thanks cya.

About the mud thing. I figured that thunder fire cannons move so slowly that it wouldnt really happen and I dont want to cover the whole model in mud.
The reason ive abandoned the imperial guard in the same colour is because when I added the mud to the leman russ which has a hell of a lot more track it looked gak.
The mould lines. As a rule its the older models that have them like the tactical marines which I dint pay enough attention to as i was rushed to do them for gt back then. I think the tanks are fine though and new models dont have them either. But yeah i just suck a bit with them. Automatically Appended Next Post: Ive just paint striped and converted the sgt of the stormtrooper squad heres some wip pictures he hant got his back pack yet i paint tha seperately and i think he needs a bit of green stuff around the neck.
Ive just done the green stuff on the neck while the pictures uploaded put a little on the back of the chainsword aswell just to strengthen the bond.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Ok ive been painting all mornning and so far the remainder of the squad apart from the sgt have now been sprayed and painted black and given their drybrush of codex grey and white.
Heres a wip
Im also doing a stage by stage thing for them which i will put up when done. I know they arnt exactly complicated but I thought it would still be cool to see exactly how I did them.
