Legion strongly implies that Alpharius knew at least the basic details about the chaos gods. When debating whether to act as suggested and aid Horus, he states something along the lines of 'It is my father's greatest will to destroy the great enemy.' (Someone else will have to find the exact quote, I borrowed the book when I read it.)

What I think they were misinformed about was the exact power and corruptive nature of chaos. They underestimated it and thought themselves, the pinnacle of humanity, were immune. Can anyone give a fluff source of a major daemonic uprising before the HH? It could be that the Emperor underestimated them too. Sure, they stole his sons away, but all they were able to do was scatter them; while Tzeentch may have seen far enough ahead to know what they could become, the other gods would have killed the infants had they the slightest sense. I am astonished Khorne didn't take out a few. Like Magnus.

Horus, in Horus Rising, on the other hand, doesn't seem to know all that much about Chaos. He seems to know that the Warp can change people, but he shows no signs that he's aware of the actual Chaos Gods. He actually accepts the use of the word "daemon" just for lack of a better term to describe things that have not been fully studied, but nothing more.

I have already two major flaws in your idea. 1: If that was the case marbo would have went back in time and kicked the emperor's ass and the imperium would be over 9000 times more awesome. 2: The technoviking would have done exactly the same thing. I agree with the wise man who posted earlier who says he looks like Gerrard Butler.

Imo he looks like Danny Trejo... that would be so awesome..

I see him as a man who thoguht that he was the only right choice for the mankind and in many cases he was.After his near-death the Imperium degerated into what we know today.He could tell his sons about the nature of Chaos Gods and about other dangers.
