Wait, what?
That Old Ones created eldar/ C'Tan were discovered by Necrontyr who then got turned into eeeevil robots tripe wasn't actually 40K background until the 'cron codex was released in 200~, at least 2 years after starcraft (best computer game ever).

Correction: The C'tan made conversions of all the necrons... The origins of the Necrontyr may still lie with the Old Ones, and the bugs, well, their origins are just as likely to come out of anywhere.

IIRC, though, the Orkz and the Eldar were the 2 biggies created by the Old Ones, though it isn't inconcieveable that the Necrontyr were once included among the plans. The Eldar are a representation of Stasis, seeking to keep things as they are currently balanced. The Orks fall under Dynamism, change, growth. The Necrontyr, with their short life span could readily represent Entropy as a principle, as could the Tyranids, as their own metabolism is bound to, eventually, run them out of food or energy stores.

Or I could be completely wrong, and the Old Ones merely invented clowns to be creepy.

Things I've gotten other players to admit...

Yea what i meant was the C'tan turned the Necrontyr (a normal race) into the Necrons (mindless robot, killing machines).

I would think that the source for Warhammer/Craft would be the works of Tolkien. While 40k/Starcraft/Aliens were inspired by Heinlein's Starship Troopers book.

Starship troopers is ultimately the genesis of almost all the good army based sci-fi; cross Halo, 40k, Aliens, and Starcraft and what do you get? The strangely democratic yet draconian Terran Federation fighting an bug menace (though one more akin to being a 'normal' race that just looks weird and has the reproduction rates of of your average insect rather then nids or zergs, or xenomorphs) fighting them with elite soldiers armed in incredible super armor that can let them do anything from leap over a building to withstand an atomic blast, drop podding their way to a planet near you to teach them a thing or two about messing with humanity.
